Im really confused on what to get. I need a computer asap because im gaming on a mac and it is not pleasant. I want to get a new computer but it seems like there's new hardware just around the corner.

I'm not an overclocker so I don't think the devil's canyon will be of use for me. However I hear that x99 and haswell-e processors are coming soon. Should I get a z97 board with an i5 or should i wait?

Evidently the x99 will be a huge speed bump so I'm really confused.

If you're gaming, X99 wouldn't really be useful for you.
X99 will bring hexa and octa core processors, which are more suited for heavy workloads like graphics rendering, number crunching and encoding.
Gaming really doesn't usually benefit much past an i5 4670.

If u need a platform with humongous amount of pcie lanes, ddr4 support and longetivity, go ahead and wait for x99.

But if u need a pc asap, just get a z97 or h97 to further reduce the budget.

Just take note that the cost of mobo and cpu and ram for x99 might be enough to cover the entire z/h 97 setup.

Rumoured to be out in Sep.

Second this, plus you will need deep pockets for motherboard, extreme cpu and ddr4. The $$ is better utilize on high end gpu and sli.

u can still get a decent haswell or DC's new i5 chip... they would be more then enuf for ur gaming.

X99 is only for ethu users

In the context of gaming fps. If you do compute based tasks likewise many utilise cuda these days and a titan would serve you better

Hmmm does cuda help in photo editing, video conversion and file compression? I am only aware that cuda is meant for compute. And those thousand cores in cuda far outperform the consumer 6c/12t cpu.

Not an expert on this but I believe CUDA can be used in gpu acceleration as parallel computing
