A drunken couple got into an argument with a man while waiting for an elevator. The husband punched the man unconscious, then kicked and stomped him, while the wife kicked him five times. Both were sentenced to five months and two weeks' jail and fined $1,200 on Tuesday morning (October 7).

The assault occurred at 3:22 a.m. on January 19, 2019, in the elevator lobby on the fourth floor of Orchard Plaza.

The defendants are 30-year-old Fu Yuanjun and 30-year-old Luo Xinhui, a married couple. They face charges of intentionally causing grievous hurt and assault, respectively.

The case details indicate that the man and woman, along with two friends, had met at a lounge on the fourth floor of Orchard Plaza around midnight on the day of the incident. The four of them consumed three bottles of liquor and then decided to continue their drinking at another lounge in Cuppage Plaza.

When they arrived at the elevator lobby, six other people, including the 26-year-old male victim, were also waiting for the elevator. He was studying at a university in the UK and was back in Singapore for winter break at the time of the incident.

The victim pushed the male defendant's hand away, and an argument ensued.

The victim dragged the male defendant out of the elevator, where he took advantage of the victim's phone call to knock her down with a punch.

The victim's face hit the ground, and she lost consciousness instantly.

The male defendant, however, refused to give up and kicked the victim in the face and back of the head. The female defendant also kicked her five times in the buttocks.

The male defendant then kicked the victim twice in the face, causing her to move about a meter on the ground. After stomping on the victim's head, the defendant left with the female defendant and her friend.

The victim was unconscious during the attack and regained consciousness at 3:27 a.m., leaving a pool of blood on the ground.

The male defendant pleaded guilty Tuesday morning and was sentenced to five months and two weeks in prison, while the female defendant was fined $1,200. (Name transliteration)
