Hi Saviours,

i need some help in building a new desktop and would like to use some of my old parts.

Budget is around $500+-

Not particular about appearance of the PC

Don't need keyboard , mouse , external speakers , monitor .

The games i play is counterstrike , maplestory , audition.

If my budget allows i would like to have a wireless adapter.

list of pre own parts

LG DVD Drive
500 GB Seagate hdd
a 230 V power supply unit

i went around the forum thread i found this thread near my budget wonder if this fit my requirement. is it possible to get the similar or better specification from pcthemes or bestbuy ( many threads recommend this 2 shop :) )

forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-2/budget-gaming-setup-nvidia-4137487.html at the last page

but preferably 1 piece 8 gb ram instead of 4gb x2.
My HDD has pre installed Windows XP SP 2 32 bit can i use it temporary on the system ? cause my friend is going to spare me a windows 7 64 bit

i apologize if my English isn't very good or thread isn't on the correct format i not a very good forums user

please let me know if i miss out anything or the budget is ridiculous cause i have totally zero background in this thing

thank you for your time in helping me.:)

Please check which connector your HDD and LG ODD is using:

And unfortunately you cannot just plug in your existing HDD with Windows XP and run the system. Hardware driver incompatibility will definitely result in Blue Screen of Death (BSoD).

And so are those listed games the most demanding you think you will ever play?

And roughly how far is your PC away from the wireless modem/router? Any zig zag wall and how many walls in between them? Or perhaps is it possible to connect PC to router without cutting any common pathway in your house?

And may i know your monitor resolution?

Placing PC chassis on table or floor?

hi moneyface=p thanks for your quick reply

my dvd drive i believe its IDE/Pata
and my hdd is sata

i think its not so zig zag

pc and my router is about 1 wall away but i couldn't really get the distance due to oddly shaped house

no issue putting the pc on the floor or on the table

i believe my monitor resolution is 64.0khz 60hz p 1280 x 1024

i think maybe i would play graphic near cabal too

CPU & Mobo: G2120 & Gigabyte B75M-D3V @ $180
Ram: Free 4GB ram
ODD: Samsung DVD RW @ $22
You will need to replace with a SATA DVD drive as most motherboards don't support IDE/PATA DVD drive.
GPU: Sapphire 7750 1GB @ $138
I don't think your games require a discrete graphic card. Onboard graphic should be able to handle those games. But i added an entry level card just in case you intend to try out more games with your new rig.
Case: Asgard Pro @ $58
PSU: FSP Raider 450W @ $68
Better to get a new PSU as old PSU efficiency tends to depreciate.
Wifi adapter: TP Link WN722N High Gain @ $26

Total: $492
Buy and build at Tradepac.

would like have some advice

i was wondering if i should stick to the recommendation or add funding to get a better specification cause i am currently waiting for NS letter.

Considering if i only went home at saturday and sunday which is 2 days a week 8 days per month and 96 days per year which is about a quarter of a year.

So i was wondering the duration of 2 years technology moves at a fast pace so the pricing might change

CPU : I3
Motherboard : no idea
RAM : 1 piece 4 GB or 1 piece 8 GB ( if only 2 ram slots )
Power Supply Unit : No idea
Graphics card : not really sure if i will play better graphic soon

GPU: MSI HD 6570 1GB @ $76*
SSD: Crucial m4 64GB @ $93*
Install Windows 7 directly on SSD and you can omit the need to transfer precious personal data out of the HDD.
ODD: Samsung 22X CD/DVD Writer [OEM] @ $20
PSU: FSP Raider 450W [80 Plus Bronze] @ $68*
PSU operates at best efficiency, 80 Plus Gold standard, on low power loads.
5 years warranty.

CASE: Generic ATX Chassis @ $20
WIFI: TP-Link TL-WN722N Wireless-N 150 Mbps [USB] @ $26

Stay affirm with the choices above and check for all spare cables and accessories returned before leaving SLS.
If you are keen to learn about self-assembling, you can buy everything and bring them over to GS's free PC assembly zone at #02-32.

It will be impossible to rip the 4GB RAM from their boss without any storage disk drive included. :o

-SNIP-

Use onboard graphics, 4gb ram and upgrade when the desire arises.
Go serve your NS first, see your schedule then say. :s22:
