I came from GOMO to Zero1. Was on GOMO from Nov 2019 until July 2022 and Zero1 from Aug 2022 to present.

My experience is that both have good data connection but when you’re in a very congested area (for example peak hour at MRT) the speeds will be significantly throttled. Voice quality no complains at all just that calls will take a few seconds longer to connect as it’s over 3G (no VoLTE). Note that GOMO has enabled VoLTE now (it wasn’t enabled yet when I was still previously on GOMO) so the call connection time should be faster and sound clearer. Zero1 still don’t have VoLTE.

All mvnos are throttled when the network is crowded. To what extend is the question, nobody knows.

Yes both I have experienced throttled speeds when it's very crowded. Speeds can be as low as 1 Mbps.

Over time, the Jumbo plan has evolved to become a regular monthly plan. In the past, customers had to visit a physical store or the online shop on Shopee to top up or renew their plan. With ZERO1, enchance customers can now add their credit card information to automatically renew their plan every 30 days once it has expired.

I remember only paying regular fee in advance for the first month upon signing up, so I guess not. The following month's bill will be pro-rated by number of days after the first month till the following billing day.

E.g. I sign up on 13 Mar. I pay $7 upfront. The following month's billing day (8-10th) I don't have to pay anything. Then May, I pay for 13 Apr to 30 Apr (pro-rated). From May onwards, will be $7 monthly on the regular billing date.

For zero1 roaming (without subscribing any roaming packs), can it be disabled? Just want to be able to disable to be safe when not needed. And enable only when need to receive SMS OTP when overseas. Thanks.

My lines are from other providers (MyRepublic & RedOne) but the protocol is almost the same.

Normally I disable MOBILE DATA & ROAMING DATA on phone setting for that particular SIM Card after flight take off. If wanted another layer of safety, switch to 3G/2G under NETWORK TYPE.

Then keep the ROAMING on your phone app turned ON. This way, you will receive OTP at anytime and most unlikely to incur DATA roaming charges. Just be careful not to answer or pick up phone calls since this is chargeable.

So your ans is, cannot disable at the network operator level. Got to do it at phone level.

No, it cannot be disabled.

Unfortunately there is still risk of accidentally calling and sending sms when overseas

When you are in Singapore, there is nothing to do, by default data roaming is disabled on your phone.

When you go overseas, there is nothing to do as well if you’re not using data overseas. By default Zero1 supports pay as your roam (when you are overseas) for outgoing SMS, incoming calls, outgoing calls. Incoming SMS is free (so you can receive all your SMS OTP).
There is no Pay As You Roam for data. If you try and use data overseas (even if data roaming is turned on on your phone) you cannot do it unless you subscribe to their International Roaming Data Packs. Hence, you won’t be charged anything for data for any accidental usage since no data will load.
Pay As You Roam service (for calls and SMS but not data) is provided free of charge. If you don’t anyhow answer calls, make calls, or send SMS when you are overseas you won’t be charged anything.

Now if you want to use (Zero1) data when you are overseas, you need to subscribe their International Roaming Data Packs. Then enable data roaming on your phone. There is no roaming pack for calls and SMS, it charges based on the Pay As You Roam rates.

To me personally I think Zero1 is already almost a full fledged telco as it supports Pay As You Roam and this service is provided for free, which some MVNOs (like GOMO) don’t even have. This is important when you need to make an emergency call (for emergency services) or receive calls when you are overseas, you can do it.
Also I don’t subscribe to their International Roaming Data Packs when I want to use data when I’m overseas as the Zero1 rates are not really cheap. Instead I will just buy an eSIM overseas data plan from online (Qoo10/Shopee/Lazada) and activate it just before leaving Singapore.
