Guys, anyone realised roaming calls on Zym is very expensive.

Went china and did a 4 mins call and it cost $20!! Is there any Zym add on to make roam calls cheaper? Can't seem to find the option.
zym free data roaming must use cautiously, you may need to disable voice calls
calls are very expensive and charges are incurred even if you press the reject button

another trap is circles, they may charge you for roaming even if you use minimally or not at all

eight and simba are my go to for overseas roaming

Jail for man who misappropriated over $2.5m in company assets while he was COO of SGX-listed firm

https://www.straitstimes.com/singap...ny-assets-while-he-was-coo-of-sgx-listed-firm

A man who was the chief operating officer (COO) of MDR, a firm listed on the main board of the Singapore Exchange, misappropriated over $2.5 million in company assets, including mobile devices.

Court documents stated that these assets were meant for MDR’s promotional activities.

However, Richard Siua Cheng Foo, 54, sold them through a third-party dealer, offering the latter a cut of every sale. Siua also used a portion of his ill-gotten gains to fund his gambling habit.

On Jan 6, he was sentenced to five years and six months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to one count of criminal breach of trust involving 625 mobile devices worth nearly $980,000 in total.

Four other charges relating to the remaining amount were considered during his sentencing. He has not made any restitution to MDR.

At the time of the offences, Siua was also the chief executive and director of several of MDR’s subsidiaries – 3 Mobile Telecom, Handphoneshop and A-Mobile.

These subsidiaries were collectively referred to as “the group” in court documents, and a search with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority revealed that he no longer holds these positions with them.

From Zym website about us:

ZYM mobile (MVNO), by m-DR Ltd.

In 2021, mDR extended its partnership to launch its first MVNO, ZYM Mobile.

"The department then discovered a sharp spike in the group’s marketing expenditure for 2021 compared with previous years."

hi guys, which do you think is the better option?

Zym 4G with free 180 days 5G or just the 5G plan,
or
SingTel 5G Sim-Only?

both works..if 4g works for you and your lifestyle

Mvnos rocks !
yeah I know both works... Zym seems to receive the least complaints from what I've browsed through the forum, but then it's still a MVNO, so in terms of network coverage / stability / efficiency... (such as underground, MRT, etc.) I am wondering if it loses out to Singtel's own 5G Sim-only plans.

not so concern about speed or data limit.

Works for most of us for MVNOs ...
My own considering factor for ST MVNOs i.e Z1 / ZYM / Vivifi etc...
- price for average users
- don't expect great QOS or Customer service
- much better roaming package included free and some non ST Mvnos include IDD Calls

I am sure you already know most of them since you have been reading.. To me ST direct 5G SIM has it own benefits but i won't pay for contract terms nowadays and no roaming packages especially in Asia unless you like to own multiple lines like some.

Personally I will say the following combination is good for me. You can also consider it if you are okay with dual line.
1) Singtel SIM Only S$15.28 recontract offer, for local usage. This should be better than Singtel MVNOs' 5G plans for local usage.
2) eight S$8 4G plan as a backup and for roaming. It has free voice roaming, unlike Singtel MVNOs. With the S$88 one-for-one top-up offer, effective price is only at S$4 per month for me for the next 22 month, so no problems to keep it. SIMBA is another good choice for roaming and it has one-for-one top-up offer from time to time as well.

But if you like single line for local usage and roaming (but avoid voice call during roaming), then Singtel MVNOs' 5G plan (or 4G plan with 5G trial) may be a better choice. You just have to lower your expectations when it comes to more difficult locations like underground MRT Stations during peak hours.

I hardly travel, maybe once or twice a year. so.. not that particular about roaming calls.

to carry two lines, one for roaming, when people call me when I'm overseas they'll still be calling the main line, not the roaming line, e.g. from banks. so for me it's a bit pointless to have dual lines (unless there's free call forwarding from main line to roaming line).

sadly Singtel Sim-only don't seem to have voice roaming, although there's data roaming support.

Singtel SIM Only supports voice roaming, but it will cost you a lot. Zym is adding a bit more on top of Singtel's roaming voice call charges, so it is even more expensive.

If you do not travel much, then just ignore the roaming voice calls.

For me, I just ignore the call to my main Singtel SIM Only number, but call back using eight if I know the call may be legitimate.

If just focusing on local usage, and you don't mind the pricing and 12 month contract of the SingTel SIM Only S$15.28 plan, then I will say it is better than SingTel MVNOs' 5G plans.

does eight have prepaid e-sim? so that can easily buy before travelling and activate when needed to making roaming call when overseas 😅

Yeah I brought this up before. Received 2 calls 1 min each, made 1 call 2 mins, all to/from chinese numbers. Total $20 for 4 mins.

Now I turn on call barring while roaming. Just straight ignore all calls anyone wants to look for me please make the effort to text/call me on Whatsapp :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Opt for eight 5G SA plan + leverage on their 1-1 top up promo.. less than $8 per month average...

To deal with this, I use Simba/maxx/eight for my primary line, and the Singtel MVNO act as data only line, and direct all calls on the Singtel MVNO to the primary line.

For Singapore-to-Singapore call forwarding, both the forwarded call from number A to B and the received call are treated as local calls.

Whether incoming roaming calls are free depends on your provider’s policies and plan; however, this doesn’t affect SG-to-SG call forwarding, which remains local and unlikely to exceed talktime nowadays.
