i am on the new firmware for PACE. Am monitoring it since last night.

any way have you scanned your area to see which 2.4Ghz channel is conggested? When Singtel installer came to install my unit, they set it to auto.
With the scanner i can see quite a number of people in my area are using the default Auto Ch6. now i set it to manual and away from my neighbours.

here is the link for wifi scanner.
inSSIDer - Discover The Wi-Fi Around You | MetaGeek

Would setting the channel to manual help to increase the download speeds drastically ?

On 200Mbps plan, but speedtest shows:

Damn sad :(:(

it would definitely helped wireless disconnection.

Actually, it is roughly accurate
See this

The java application was specially written to deal with the problems of High bandwidth but high latency network of TCP/IP.

I'm currently facing some issues with my TP Link WN822N Wireless-N Adapter. Been getting alot of random DCs recently and today, all of a sudden, I'm only getting the following speeds:

SNvOL.png

I called Singnet and they did the usual restart modem etc etc kinda thing and then when it came to the screen sharing part, they showed me this screen under my device manager, and the properties of the WN822N:

According to them, this means that the TP-Link WN822N is not a wireless N adapter but only wireless B. I was like what the heck, I was sure I bought a Wireless N card as it clearly says Wireless N Adapter on the damn adapter itself. After a bit more to-and-fro, they said that I should monitor for a few more days before they contact me again.

Not sure what is going on and would appreciate any advice on this... Thanks

Thanks for the info. I did go to the website (TL-WN822N - Welcome to TP-LINK) to download the latest drivers and utility program. Did not seem to make a difference. The thing is, before last night, when the singtel helpdesk ppl asked me to do a hard reset of my black PACE modem, i was getting good decent speeds, around 50Mbs down, now i'm only able to get a fraction of that and it also feels like my download speeds are pretty sluggish... :(

I suspect it might have something to do with the wireless settings on my 2WIRE home page (IP address)....

I don't think I have tried that yet, what should I be looking out for?
this is to check your wireless connection. if using win7 go to control panel. under network and internet. click on view network status and task. under connect and disconnect click on your wireless network connection.

Alright thanks. I will try that out tonight when I get back home. What about the 2WIRE home page (IP address), just wondering if there are any settings that I should tweak? I think when I did the hard reset of the PACE router, all the wireless settings went back to default and maybe that could be the reason my wireless speeds are now very sluggish, can no longer see 40-60Mbs down....

use a network cable go to 192.168.1.254
go to configuration and then wireless tab.
you will need your administrator password.
check the wireless mode. by default it should be on Auto.
you can try manual to select b+g+n or any combination you like.

Also your 2.4ghz channel will be defaulted to ch6.
I strongly suggest you use a wifi scanner to check for wifi traffic in your area. then use the most vacant channel.

usually i do not care if my wireless connection is achieving max bandwidth.
mostly used for surfing. for serious downloading, i use a wired connection.

Also dont expect to get your maximum bandwidth all the time. i believe the one advertised is peaked bandwidth. if you want constant bandwidth you need a dedicated line. for sure it will be very very expensive. it will give you 99.99% QOS . $$$$

I know need to pay $80 or so for installation but i need to know how do i connect it to my computer? My desktop will be in the bedroom. Do i need to connect a wireless router to my computer? And will singnet provide me one or do i need to get one from linksys or something?

You have to pay for installation $80.25 (weekdays) or $112.35* (weekends) but sometimes they waive installation during roadshows or you can try your luck in the upcoming sitex on 22 nov.

You have various options to allow your desktop to have internet access if your termination point (the box that openet install for you) is located in your living room

1a) direct wiring which provides fastest connection, singtel provides this service (Wiring charge of $80.25 will apply for wiring service from the modem to each computer/device within the first 35m, additional $10 is applicable for every subsequent 5m wiring length), but I think this service does not include concealing the wire. If you want you can either DIY or get the pro (Ayub at 81186069 highly recommended by others on hwz more info refer to http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/n...ice-cat-6-lan-cable-installation-3675789.html)

b) another option that can be use is relocating the termination point to your room if you do not require any network capability on the tv in your living room.

2) use homeplugs (speed depends on your electrical network)

If your desktop lacks wireless capability

3) buy a router that can act as wireless access point (most router provide this function, make sure you enquire before buying) and yes singtel will provide you one but you need another to allow your pc for bridging (recommended: asus n55u/n66u or engenius esr9850/asus n15u if you are low on budget)

4) buy a wireless pci-e card or usb adaptor

Home plug itself offers reasonable speed.. forget about wireless cause it cant really hit high speed... not recommended to use wireless..

Wow thanks for the in depth reply! Really useful guide for noobs like me. I think my best bet is to get another wireless router for bridging.

@nikamura
Does wireless really take away the speed? Or am I better off with like 15mbps? I've read that singtel lifted the international bandwidth cap, what does it mean for us? Will be using the Internet for casual gaming like l4d2, CS, dota. And also watching soccer on sopcast.

Wireless will never achieve speed equivalent to direct connection. Actually I heard that singtel offers $23/mth + $10/mth rebate for 10Mbps board band for recontract if you call their termination department, refer to http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/i...4/re-contract-singnet-10-mbps-3000935-85.html, it is a good deal if there are few users sharing the internet, and that you are not too hardcore a gamer that cares about latency when playing FPS games online since fibre has much better latency than adsl. Lifting international bandwidth cap only concerns those who stream a lot of videos or torrent as these activities require a lot of bandwidth, no cap means that it is possible to experience better video stream and higher torrent speed (dependent on internet traffic, too many users speed will still be slow).

just a quick question. do the singnet contractors do a good job of laying the network cable from the router to the desktop?
