[HELP] Need advice on CAT 6 lan cable installatio

I have deleted the original message and posted contact for those who are looking for LAN cable installation.

The technician's name is Ayub at 81186069 who does structured cabling aka network cabling.

Shared by HWZ brother, Slayer1, Ayub is using 3M Cat 6 cables and Berlite Cat 5E cables.

Berlite Cat 5E @ $80 - $110 per point (estimated prices)

3M Cat 6 @ $120 - $160 per point (estimated prices)

The above prices are estimated and the actual prices may be lower, same or higher.

Please feel free to call him to enquire on the actual charges.

It includes labour and cables.

For faceplates, please check with him whether they are included.

For better brand of cat 5E or cat 6 cables like AMP, Belden & etc, please call him and check with him.

Who made that statement about "potential signal loss" of LAN faceplate? if that were true, what happens to all the LANs around the world?

If you can DIY and buy your own materials (cables, trunking, keystone jacks/faceplate panels, etc), there are lots of guides to do own wiring, can be at least 30% cheaper.

I hope that I did not misunderstand the technician.

He did mention something like keystone, due to wear and tear after sometime, may be hard to trobleshoot where does the fault lie with.

So he advises not to install LAN faceplate instead LAN cable terminated with the jack head will stick out at the end of the PVC trunking.

Is that the correct way of doing it?

Thanks.

How often does one really connect and disconnect the Ethernet jack from the faceplate?

The technician should leave sufficient slack (coiled around within the box at least 2 loops) when terminating with the keystone jack, so even if the jack fails, can easily cut away and redo a new one.

Hi neubie, thank you very much for your comments.

I do agree with you and with faceplate installed it will look nicer.

I will take note of it.

Thanks.

No problem. The thing is, if the installation is done properly, the structured cabling will last for many years without problems. My home was wired up > 15 years back and I have no problems with the cabling at all.

To play safe, ask the installer to use their cable tester to show you all the point-to-point connections are done properly

CAT5e is good enough, CAT 6 is not necessary.

Are you sure?

Cat 5e and Cat 5's price maybe similar. But not for Cat 6.
Challenger has both Cat 5e and Cat 6 cable. Using 10M-long cable for instance, Cat 6's price is almost double than Cat 5e.

Sounds like pure laziness. All offices & hotels use face plates.

Bought 15m from them, got my ends crimped and booted.
$20 for it... :D

What I did was let loose the whole bundle of cables and fwah, value for money mans! :D:D:D

I'll just buy the crimping tool and tester off ebay. Saves even more money...

Greetings.

I was quoted $270 for installation from living room (4S HDB) to two bedrooms and $80 for 4 LAN faceplates.

Is that the market price or too expensive?

HWZ brothers please kindly advise.
