The next time I drop by my father-in-law place I will verify if our own Netflix subscription works with Ch 400 on his setup. If it's useful then I will consider between changing ONR config to all set-top box behind Asus router or using Android box. I actually have free VQTV1 (slow like turtle) and VQTV4 (still ok) and Minix Neo X7 (still ok but on not so stable custom rom as wanted to be on Android 5) to play with to see if Singtel TV Go on them offer good enough usage to return the additional Singtel set-top boxes. Yet to find time to see if hide root apps will work for Singtel TV Go. But then again these boxes are not certified for Netflix so no HD. So if I really want to have Netflix in the rooms, I would prefer Nvidia Shield but Mi Box S wins by price point. Also besides myself getting lazy to follow up maintaining these boxes, my wife and children also prefer set-top boxes cos more idiot proof lol. Will see how it goes. Oh funny enuff, I manage to get Singtel TV Go working with my sis Fire TV stick gen 1 for live tv even though the app prompts it won't work without Google Play Services. It was just a quick test so not sure if everything else works. However, because the app is designed for touch screen, the default remote without mouse pointer is not usable. Had to install mouse toggle but it's still too cumbersome to use as it's still not point and click. So I guess to use Singtel TV Go on android box, it's better to use airmouse. Luckily additional set-top box now cost only $5 else I got no choice but to surely push myself to get them working.

Great that you get SingTel TV Go working on FireTV Stick, so that says SingTel TV Go may work on non-rooted boxes. I have tried successfully to unroot 5 of my 6 rooted generic Android TV boxes but still SingTel TV Go and SingTel Cast do not work on them.

BTW, Singtel TV Go and SingTel Cast work directly on Mi Box S and Nvidia Shield TV. Both apps also support Chromecast dongles as well as Apple TV 4th Gen and Apple TV 4k. So you do have multiple options.

Still as you said since extra Singtel TV boxes are not expensive, you may just stick to that.

Hi guys, I'm in the midst of switching over from SH to ST and will be getting the Huawei ONR, so need some advice on how to configure my setup.

My current SH setup:

  • SH ONT -> Asus RT-AC66U -> switch -> CAT6 cabling to multiple data points in my house -> Asus Lyra AP / laptops / other devices

I've read through this thread and it seems I have two options for the new ST setup:

Option 1

  • Huawei ONR -> switch -> CAT6 cabling to multiple data points in my house -> Asus Lyra AP / laptops / other devices / ST mioTV STB

Option 2 (what Downloader is doing)

  • Huawei ONR (bridge mode for Port 1) -> Asus RT-AC66U -> switch -> CAT6 cabling to multiple data points in my house -> Asus Lyra AP / laptops / other devices for Internet

  • Huawei ONR (ports 2,3 and 4) -> ST mioTV STB

I guess Option 1 seems the more straight forward and gives the most flexibility since I'll then be able to use any of the data points for both Internet and mioTV. I don't do any gaming, just normal Internet surfing, Netflix, streaming, some light BT occasionally. Is there any downside? How is the routing performance of the Huawei ONR?

For Option 2, I will need to designate which data points will be used for mioTV, then bypass my switch and directly connect the appropriate data points to the Huawei ONR. This will be a problem for me since in some areas, I don't have enough data points so I will need to add in a switch there too.

Any advice please?

Option 1 should be fine for most users. ONR should be fine as a router. It is just you lose some advance features of your Asus router, or basic features like setting up of DNS server.

Option 2 will give you more flexibility in case you need it, for example if you want to set up Google DNS on your Asus router. As for adding dumb switch, I believe it should be okay for Option 2. But it is better to confirm with SingTel.

I managed to get Singtel to call me and configure the ONR in bridge mode for the appointment but the person I spoke to said that the setup will be similar to what Downloader mentioned ;Port 1 on the ONR will be untagged and I can connect either direct or my own router there, with the vlan settings OFF. Port 2/3/4 will be for the Singtel TV box only, with no internet.

This is difficult, as the one data point behind the TV can only be used for either Internet or TV. If I connect the set-top box there, then I can't have wired for my TV and Fire TV stick. He gave a solution of using the wireless homebridge connected to another data point opposite the TV, so that I can use my set-top box. However, that might have interference and affect the TV signal if somebody walks across. Another option is a wired connection from that point to the TV console, but then there would be trunking visible.

Given all these, what do you advise? Should I give up the idea and just use the ONR as default?

your fire tv stick should be able to connect via wi-fi right? same can be done for your TV if there is built-in wifi

Yes both will have WiFi but I would prefer wired connection for better speed and stability. I can still place the router there beside the TV for wired connection, but then for the Singtel TV box need another connection then.

I think the SingTel proposal to offer the Wireless Home Bridge is not bad. It is still wireless and should not be so easily to get blocked.

The good thing about this customized configuration is that SingTel TV box is at a different network from your other devices. Your other devices are managed by a single router and can see each other (no double NAT).

Still you can also go back to the default ONR configuration and still use your own router to use the better feature of your own router (like DNS setting and VPN), it is just you will get so called double NAT. It may not be an issue though.

With the default ONR mode, you can add a dumb switch (connected to the single available data point) in the console area to provide wired connection to SingTel TV box and Fire TV stick and your smart TV.

The issue is that the device connected to your own router (in router mode, not as an Access Point), say your phone or computer, will not be able to see your Fire TV Stick and your TV, which may not be a real problem. For example, you can temporarily disconnect the wired connection and connect your Fire TV Stick to the wireless network if you need to copy files or install apps from your laptop to the Fire TV Stick in case you need to do that.

you can get a pair of cheap managed switches eg tplink tl-sg105e to vlan tag and detag the traffic again in your home trunk

Hi guys and hopefully singtel,

I recently got a ST Huawei ONR with two Askey wifi mesh and realise I can’t connect my iot devices to the wifi (Philips TV, Xiaomi Security Cam, and Samsung digital door lock). Then I found out all these three require 2.4ghz band.

Then i realise my wifi has only one connection and no (2.4g) and (5g) beside the ssid name. The askey mesh does have the 2.4 and 5ghz on green lights though.

May I ask how can I connect the iot devices to the 2.4ghz band directly?

Sorry not well versed in networking so pardon any misuse of terms

disable band steering on both askey and main router

He also say that ONR can use VPN but need to ask the VPN provider to guild thru set up.

Any solution, or should I just change to another broadband provider.

I just read another thread

The usual ONRs (present) and ONTs (past) issued out are already limited by 1Gbps per RJ45 port. No point getting a speed plan higher than 1Gbps, no doubt the difference is like $10/mth. Don't forget subscriber have to fulfill 24mths contract, extra $240 for something not utilised.

the main difference is that for non2gbps plan holders the international speed is given less priority during congestion, while 2gbps plan holders should achieve at least 1gbps at all times

Coz I need to use vpn so was thinking vpn will slow down the speed so by getting 2gb it will not matter so much especially during congestion. Then singtel say ONT cannot support 2gb etc. etc. n from what I read ONR cannot have vpn so think got no choice but go 1gb.

onr private vpn no issue. usually its those corporate ipsec that will hv issue on dual nat. if your own router is set as ap mode, you should have no issue

Hi Pros

I have a dumb question, how do i change the my SSID & password? After logging to the router, 192.168.1.254, i cant seems to see the traditional SSID & password function. Try the guide in Singtel website, but it does not help
i think i m on ONR by the way.

Thanks
