So many fake news and wrong investment advice here?
Just stop trolling. There are plenty of useful information and this forum helps to learn a lot from different views. As long as it's done in fairness. You just love to antagonise, yet I'm still waiting for you to actually contribute some actionable knowledge that fits your strategy.

Inheriting money or properties is good for you, but not everyone is as lucky as you.

Well the current state of reports here is that many previously said can transfer (but didn't actually try it) and then someone tried it for real and both IBKR and SCB customer services were not able to find a way to do the transfer.

Ideally, we would need more people that actually tried to do it to report here.

I did it in Aug 2019, but sorry to say I can't find the paperwork :s11:
I remember following the instructions in the post below though, and quite sure I had to go down to SCB branch to get the share transfer form.

Don't understand why you claim "Inheriting money or properties is good for you, but not everyone is as lucky as you" about me? Surely this is trolling here isn't it for making such false statement about me since As a matter of fact, I achieved most of my wealth through my own capability.

And ironically, people whom I know and who likes to dog eye see people low and with "Ah Q Spirit" will always like to think and claim that I obtained my wealth through inheritance and not own capability. Luckily in reality these people usually are incapable and don't go far, so I am always laughing at them for their stupidity and thinking too highly of themselves but yet cannot achieve much. These people even if they receive large inheritance they will also "lose" most of them through one way or another through bad investment and squandering away etc.

I thought you said some time ago you "invested" into 2 properties in good districts from lump sum. If you made enough from salary to do that, sorry I misunderstood.

Still is unclear what is the strategy you propose instead of what ST et al. propose here ?

What's the cheapest online brokerage for buy&hold and/or active trading local and US stocks/ETFs for amounts below and above SGD100,000? I have heard of Saxo, IBKR, SCB, FSM, etc... being debated over here but am very confused*with custodian fees, platform fees, etc... Hope someone here can enlighten me.

If you are investing 100k sgd into shares on sgx, fsm makes sense as its 10 fix commission per trade.

For 100k usd into non sg shares, I'm using IB. There could be cheaper ones but IB works well for me.

Local: FSMOne is probably the cheapest. $10 flat. No custodian fees too.

US stocks: If you're actively trading, IB probably the best option. If you just buy and hold, I heard some people say Tiger Brokers is quite good, though I've never tried.

Why would they when they have to pay another $10 to sell? By your logic the IBKR investors are more likely to sell because the marginal cost of selling is 0 (goes into offsetting the monthly minimums)

i meant people who think 10 Dollar is a lot and dw to pay 10 dollar a month just to invest won't be able to take any kind of market movement. They are more likely to panic sell instead of holding.

He also says he's an active currency trader and has enough time to make long/short equity punts. I don't think he's telling the truth about any of it.

Don't give him oxygen; just report him and move on. These jackasses eventually get bored and go back to EDMW eventually, if they don't get themselves banned first.

Three axes here, yikes.

Anyway.
* FSMOne is pretty good for buy-and-hold of local stocks, whether you're small or large.
* For active trading of local stocks: IDK. Maybe ask over in SSI.
* For buy-and-hold of global stocks: Stanchart below $100k, IBKR if you're over $100k.
* For active trading of global stocks: IBKR's not necessarily the cheapest, but their smart-routing makes them the best.

Hi ST,

Is there any reason why the dividend yield for VOO seems higher than VUSD, even accounting for the 15% withholding tax differential?

Anything that I had missed out? Is it due to timing differences betw the 2 funds in their distribution of dividends? Thanks!

Erm. Not sure where you're getting those numbers from. Looking at the Bloomy I see VUSD actually yielding a bit more than 0.85 * VOO. There could be any number of reasons, though.

AMDK shiny things

i very curious how many SPGs u banged during yr time here in SG

I'm gay, so the answer is "zero". Also: don't be a creep.

When did I mention that I am an active currency trader? Could you please provide evidence to back up your claim by showing the post I posted which I mentioned that?
If you can't, then that just shows that you are lying here isn't it?
Don't understand why you need to resort to lying and smearing me to discredit me just because you are incapable of making as much money as me from investment?

Refresher

For those wondering how to ignore list people:

1. Click on the errant user's username, then click "View Public Profile"
2. There will be two dropdown menus below the username in the new page, click "User Lists" and voila
3. Go to the pub

hi do you have the link for that spreadsheet? or rough month of post? so i can refine the search.

whether IBKR vs SCB is 'worth it' is a maths questions with a number of variables, including whether you are also planning to DCA STI ETF/MBH/A35 in which case no min comms for SCB PB for SG stocks is something u need to factor in.

The forex spread 0.4% vs 0% (effectively) is not published on their websites so you need to get this information from this thread. But all the other charges are on the IBKR and SCB websites.

I think user cclee prepared a spreadsheet to help people calculate the best choice.. and even then some users don't even know how to use the spreadsheet...

if an investor does not have the ability to calculate (by himself or using cclee's spreadsheet) whether IBKR or SCB is cheaper by himself/herself, is IBKR really the best choice for that investor?

I'm sure you can think of a few people who are not so savvy (eg: elderly relatives) who might ask you for investment advice - you wouldn't be telling them open IBKR account?

ST, could I ask why not fsmone to buy/hold for sg/global stocks?

From the site, I don't see any platform/management fees. For stocks/etf. Is there a holding fee that I missed out?
https://secure.fundsupermart.com/fsm/new-to-fsm/pricing-structure

Source 2: 7. What are the custody fees for FSMOne Account?
There are no custody fees for SGX-listed, HKEX-listed and US-listed Stocks and ETFs in your FSMOne Account.
