ern, maybe u can tell us whats the games u playing? and does other games also have the same issues?

next check if the drivers have been updated?
or maybe can try to tweak some settings and see?

I play all kinds of games. Drivers are all updated. Some cpu intensive games always end up bottlenecking the system. Of course the small indie games are fine. But games like hitman hits the limit very hard and fast. Even starcraft can hit it quite quickly. Oh. And even cs go at high frame rate can hit the limit but of course that's near 120 fps before it even comes close.

The issue is that I like to multi task, open a lot of files and programming stuff which also eats some cpu (not that much though, but it adds up).

I think my windows installation is getting a hit bloated or something though. Becoming a little slow alr. So maybe I will reinstall and reinstall drivers to try.

But anyway I plan to get a new cpu sometime anyway. If I were to pick one now, should I just get a 4790k and oc or a bit so it can last another 2 to 3 years?

800~900 on new games with medium settings abit hard, but i think doable. (even though might need to skimp out on some parts.)

as for unknown battlegrounds in CPU bound (from what i know) due to the large map base game.

maybe u can list out what are the new games u are going to play?

Mainly wanna try out unknown battlegrounds though cuz I thought my laptop with 2gb 820M(louya graphics card) can at least run it in low settings but it doesn't seem like that case. I'm getting like 10-20fps while on 'very low settings' and it lags like **** even when I run around. I'm playing other games that are less graphics intensive though like paladins, dota 2, no lag for me for those games.

Just want to check with gurus here, what's the difference for the different types of gtx 1060/ gtx1070?

For example zotac have twin fan gtx 1070 which is cheaper. They also have the amp! And amp! Extreme? What is the difference for all this special names? Is it an extra feature only?

How does also gtx 1060 6gb compare against the normal gtx 1060? Thanks

Hi,

PC acting funny after 6 years so thinking to start a brand new one. Upgrading from i5-2400, HD6950 graphics, 8G DDR3 RAM, can recommend a affordable
mid-range system?

Most likely getting something like:

i5-7400 3Ghz -> what Asus motherboard is recommended?
GTX 1050 or 1050Ti (seems to fit budget) -> what brand graphics card for 1050Ti or equivalent graphics card recommended?
Memory -> cheap DDR4? DDR3 outdated right?

Should I get Windows 10?

Also the 1st page recommended systems is no longer updated? I was initially surprised to see the improvement not that much from my 6 years-old system :s13:.

Thanks!

Hi guys my pc recently kept freezing and can't boot up probably because of overheating. So I was thinking about upgrading a few of my pc component.

Motherboard: ASRock H81M-HDS
CPU : i5 4460 3.2GHz
PSU : Seasonic S12II-620 80 bronze 620W
Cooler: Nil

I was thinking of upgrading the above part but I was thinking will newer motherboard require me to upgrade my ram as well since my current ram is ddr3. Also do I need another ssd for my OS if I change motherboard? I mainly use my pc for gaming.

Budget : 800~

Hi, looking to update my PC as some of my parts that I haven't upgraded yet are starting to show signs of age and wear.

Current necessary specs as follows:

CPU: i5-6600K @ 4.5 GHz
Cooler: Corsair H60i (old, want to switch out)
GPU: AMD HD7950 (old, want to switch out)
Case: Corsair 250D w/ 2x Gentle Typhoons (feel like its too big, want to downsize some more. Looking at Node 202)

Current budget for upgrade about $750+. I have 2 screens, 1440p, and at the moment I play Final Fantasy XIV (MMO) with 30-ish FPS on medium-high settings. Experience frame drops during high load situations.

Am looking to pick up a 1070 (doesn't have to be from local distro - can buy from amazon or newegg) and get a low profile cooler for a node 202 downsize. Would you say this is feasible? And what can I look at in terms of good products for their price?

I need a PC with something like a 1060 or slightly lower GPU. Looking to get for someone not really into PC gaming but he will Family share my account so he will play what I have.

Most of my game can run with my old gpu, 770 more than good enough so a 1060 or slightly lower more than enough. Trying to keep cost low as possible.

No need Kbm, monitor.
If can squeeze in SSD fine but not necessary.
Budget starting from $600-$800.
Also need win10.

Hello All,

My 4 yrs old pc just died on me. Sudden blackout while watching show and refuse to boot after that. The system will try to boot for 1 sec with all fan spinning then die off. It will re attempt to boot every 2 sec or so but dies off almost immediately. No beep sound from mb. Send my psu to rma but boot up at service center. They advice it's mb north bridge defect, says that regulate the power etc. Is that likely the case?

If so, can recommend me a system. I just need
- cpu+mb
- ram
- casing

Reusing the following:
- SSD / HDD
- GTX 1060
- FSP 550w Platinum 92+

Main use watch show, surf net and maybe light mmo-ing if good title cones along. Budget around 600~700 can get?

Usage about 5 hrs on weekday and 8 hrs on weekend with 40% on standby mode.
Thanks. :o

Exactly what happened to me too. I decided to give it a last try before going ahead with the new purchase. Power up and failed with the same symptom. I then decided to hold the power button to force shut down but after a few cycle of self boot and dies off, the system miraculously boots up successfully.

I am still looking for new recommended system as I do not know when my system will die off again. :o

New CPU+mobo for R9 290

Hi all, I got a new case for my old PC and after I transferred it over, it refused to boot. The red light near the RAMs of my Asus P8Z77-V PRO lights up, sometimes its the red light near the CPU. Tried RAM from a friend and still the same problem, when I was trying to revive it I pulled off a few of the DIMM slots thingy that clicks the memory in.

I think either the DIMM slots are damaged, or I messed up the mobo and/or the CPU when I was transferring into the new case. Can anyone recommend a new CPU, mobo and RAMs (maybe a CPU cooler too) that wouldn't bottleneck the PowerColor PCS+ R9 290 4GB? It will be used for moderate gaming. My budget is <$600, if can squeeze to about $500 is even better haha.

Currently, this is what I'm looking at:
MOBO+CPU: Asus H110M-A M.2 + i5-7500 $399
RAM: Kingston ValueRAM DDR4 2133MHz 8GB $88

Would this be sufficient? Is a CPU cooler necessary or would the stock cooler be enough?

Those are sufficient, stock Cooler is good enough already

Upgrading 6 year old PC

Hi all,

Thinking of upgrading old rig (specs on right) to the one below:

Ryzen R5 1600
ASUS B350-PLUS $488 (CPU + Motherboard Bundle)
CORSAIR LPX 2400MHZ 8GB x 2pcs (16GB KIT) $209
Samsung 850 EVO 1TB (Bought from Amazon – New)
ASUS 24X DVDRW SATA $25
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64Bit $158
ASUS GTX 1060 6GB DCU II O.C $439
SEASONIC M12II-MODULAR 620W $115
C.M 590 III WINDOW CASING BLACK $89
Total : 1523
(Prices from PC Themes)

Budget 1.6-1.7k
Primarily for Gaming at 1080p: BF1, WOW, Mass Effect Andromeda, COH2
(No plans to game at 1440p at the moment)
Prefer ASUS brand so rationale for ASUS 1060 OC 2 GPU

Old rig still works great (can watch Netflix, surf etc) except cant play games as will black screen. Need to reseat GPU once that happens to remove PCI E red light. Suspect either aging PSU, thermal paste on GPU dried up, or failing MOBO. In any case, wish to get fresh rig with new parts first and troubleshoot old rig later.

Can help me see if the above config seems stable pl? Thanks very much!

Exactly what happened to me 2 weeks back. The computer shop I frequent told me my mobo and hdd died. They lasted for 7 good years so I guess I can't really complain.

Btw guys I got the phanteks eclipse p400 tempered glass casing. Why are the led lights still on when the system is shut down? How can I disable it from continuing to draw power from the psu?

Noticed that the date for the guides is in 2016... There is no update to the listing?
