your choice. I am no experienced DIY person myself yet i don't see why dismantle that quantity of screws is difficult.

there are tougher things on earth that human managed to overcome, i honestly don't see this as an obstacle

For people who find the their screen washed out or had crushed whites, this is a feature by AMD known as Vari-Bright™.

Vari-Bright™ attempts to conserve power by adaptively increasing the screen contrast according to the screen contents. This results in increased readability while at the same time decrease the brightness of the LED backlighting for the screen, thus saving power. The down side to this is badly crushed highlights and whites.

You can simply disable this feature by right-clicking anywhere on the desktop:
AMD Catalyst Control Center > Power > PowerPlay™ > Enable Vari-Bright™

Attempting to counter blown whites by decreasing the screen brightness digitally will not work because Vari-Bright™ works adaptively. You may get crushed blacks and loss of color fidelity as the total number of colors will be reduced.

I hope this will help all AMD users.
Pass around this message so that other AMD users will be free from this frustration.

My 1215B netbook is getting very laggy especially those sites with flash animation. I've already increased ram to 4 GB years ago. Other problems are creeping in
1. the battery totally dead. I tried to put in freezer and thaw still dead. Contacts look fine.
2. it overheat frequently and shutdown in an hour or so. I tried blowing in wd40 and vacuuming. It helped for awhile longer but still shutdown later.

I've been avoiding opening up the case bc utube videos showed it's tedious. But I recently bought a Cube i7 Stylus Windows 10 tablet and it's better for couch laying surfing bc the onscreen keyboard is vertical and easier to type while laying down LOL.
So now I'm ready to sacrifice this netbook for upgrading experiments.
Anybody tried? any suggestions for the fun of it? Now I'm only using it to play videos to my tv like a media player. It does that very well and don't overheat enough to shutdown bc the graphic part use very little resources.

Wah u still using it. Even my next Netbook after that i stop using cos it's laggy, i even have SSD in it but it can only speed up so much. Lesson learn, won't get another low powered device for a full OS machine cos it simply can't do it's job probably. End up more frustration than anything.

haha, it's still better and more flexible than the usual media player. I turned off flash animations in the browsers and it's less laggy.
Forgot to mention that I use this in the bedroom mostly when my desktop pc in the living room is shutdown to save energy. This netbook I use also for downloading torrents since I leave it on 24/7. Though it overheats and shutdown if used for websurfing more than an hour but with the case closed and display off, only utorrent running, it can run 24/7. Maybe that long running time eventually the fan is not working. Now I find that it will shutdown occasional while running only utorrent. Looks like I've no choice but open up the casing to clean the fan. I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do when I open up the case once and for all?

Even my much faster Samsung netbook was still laggy although it's really a lot better than the ASUS EEE and that's also with faster 4GB ram. Although different people have different tolerance for the type of lag. I would still say it's not worth it la, just go get a new laptop or if you use it mainly for media consumption, then go get a tablet, it's way way better and faster.

Haha, yes 5 years is a very long time in computer tech. Now netbook category is dead and taken over by tablets of all types.
That is why I've abandoned this netbook and bought a new Cube i7 Stylus Win10 tablet. The comparative advances are very impressive for the same price.

So, I'll be doing a comparison of then and now for the fun of it. But I'll be posting it in the tablet forum instead bc that's still newer and more alive than this forum.

Yeah. But sometimes if you are out and about and still need to work. I think something like a Surface is good cos of the weight. If only it dual boot Android and Windows 10 cos Windows 10 as a mobile device is pretty bad. For mobile phone it was bad, not sure as a tablet how it is.

I hope this thread is still alive, for i became an asus eee 1215b owner not to long ago. I actualy bought it second hand for the price of a few beers but it was in a terrible state. It was in pieces and all the plastic holding the screws was broken, as if someone was throwing the poor thing around the room. Previous owner also said keyboard was spilled with a drink (had to wash the keyboard and it is working great now). Anyway i assembled the poor thing together, glued it, connected and now it is working. Even the battery will give me a little over 1 hour of 720p video playback on 60% brightness. I am using the computer for programming on college (notepad++) and i have no need for newer computer for now.

I installed a 32GB SSD into it and i am getting quite slow numbers. Hdtune test will give me average 70mb/s. What is funny is that if i lock the cpu at full speed (100% in power management) it will average 78mb/s but if i set it to 50% - 100%, it will average 70mb/s. SSD disk can do about 250mb/s on desktop pc. What was the highest score u could get with ssd and this computer ?

Did anyone here use brazor tweaker ? I intend to use it and lower voltage of the cpu and test with prime95 to get some more battery life out of it and lower the temperature (i cleaned the fan, replaced the thermal compound but still it is not exactly cool, cant get it under 50C and get to 60C very fast when i do thing on it )

Hi, also owned an ASUS EEE PC netbook 1215b. I know this netbook is so old already. Anyone can recommend where to bring to replace the CMOS battery for this netbook?

Currently, my one can only power up via adapter, but black screen without any startup screen at first. Need to unplug power and press power button for more than 30 secs and repeat the steps for a few times before the netbook will show startup page to windows and still work as good. The time and date shown in the netbook's clock are also not correct. So I suspect is the dead CMOS battery causing the startup issue and inaccurate PC time/date as well. Thanks!
