Anyone have solutions to the Xiaomi TV 4S not reaching 60hz? I try to play pc games on the Xiaomi TV 4S but can only hit max refresh rate of 30 hz instead of the 60 hz stated on the specs. I am using HDMI 2.0 cable so it shall not be the cable problem. Also under the advance display settings in windows there is no 60 hz options. Hope someone can help. thanks

Are you using the new Global set? Couple of bros here including me unable to run 4k 60hz. For me, the setting is not available in the Mi Box S. Since all of us facing this, unlikely it's TV issue. Hopefully an update can fix this soon.

Just for kicks, i've ordered a new HDMI cable, let's see if it works.

So TCL Android TV can be a good alternative if you need Netflix 4K.

For example from time to time Giant is selling TCL 55P8M 4K TV Android TV OS based with certified Netflix at S$599. It is a bit more expensive than Xiaomi 4S L55M5-5ARU, but it has local warranty and Netflix HD/4K support.

TCL 65P8S is at S$999.

The Russian 4S runs official Android TV OS, like Mi Box S, with the Exception of no Netflix HD support. The Play Store for Android TV OS has limited apps.

You can side load apps like ES File Explorer to access Network Shared folder. Apps like VLC from the Play Store can access Network shared folder as well for media playing.

As for Browser, you can side load FireFox and even Chrome if you want. But if your intention is only to download apps from a website, you can use Downloader from the Play Store.

Some people like Puffin TV Browser.

That's because you are going to Picture settings in the main Mi TV settings page. You cannot do it that way.

You have to switch the source (HDMI 1/2/3) into the input that you have plugged your Mi Box S into. When you are on that input, press the CENTER button on the MI TV remote and adjust the Picture setting from there. You will be able to see RGB option after the Local Contrast Control.

The main MI TV setting display page will not have the RGB option, only when you are in the HDMI input of your Mi Box S.

Hope this helps.

Still doesn't work for me - Netflix 4k - will elaborate in next post.

Bro, thanks a lot for your input, however, my "HDMI Enhanced Mode" setting is greyed out. I cannot switch it on/off. It is default in the OFF position.

I have changed the setting in the input on the Mi Box S to Full RGB but without the HDMI Enchanced mode option, it is not showing 4k-60hz still. Only 20/25/30/smpte.

The search continues.....

Ok guys, finally got Netflix 4k working on my Mi Box S paired with Mi TV 4S (Global). Yay!

Should have listened to my own advice above lol.

The "Enhanced HDMI setting" is only available when you press the center button of the Mi TV remote when you are in the HDMI input of the Mi Box S. It will show greyed out otherwise.

Once i turned on HDMI enhanced, i was able to see 4k 60z under resolution settings.

As bro whoooo mentioned above however, whether the HDMI range is set to full or auto, has no effect on my 4k. In fact i prefer the colours when it is set to auto, setting it to full, looks abit washed out (my opinion).

Final couple of questions if anyone can help:

1) I realised after changing the resolution to 4k 60hz, i lost the option for 10 bit colour. Now only 444 8bit and 420 8bit. Not that it matters but should i choose 444 or 420? And does anyone know why the 10bit option disappeared?

2) Mi Box S is still screen flashing randomly (usually before the autoplay of preview) but works flawlessly once the video is playing. Does anyone know how to fix this? Saw another bro facing the same problem above.

3) Test pattern works great - showing 4k resolution now. But i see some titles in HDR and some titles in 4k Ultra HD (far less titles in 4k though) - is this normal?

Thanks all for the help! Been a tiring past few days but finally got 4k to show in Netflix for Mi Box S + Mi TV 4S combo!

Got a HDMI cable on the way but cost me $2.22 (Amazon Basic cable) so nothing much lost.

P.S. Honestly can't tell the difference between 4k and HDR but since bought a 4k TV, feels good that Netflix is able to show "4k Ultra HD". w00ts!

There has been a recent change in Android Playstore just a few months ago and Google has tightened up the permission of using apps om Android devices. Unless one has the permission, transfer between PC and Android Device and also the login into Google Account has been affected in many free apps. (unless one has saved login password, not able to login to Google Account). Understand file transfer using server addresses still possible. I might be wrong but failed to read files from PC.

I have got the Play Store updates on my Mi Box S. The interface changes a lot but the underline apps are still the same. No issues with Network share for my Windows 10 PC and Personal NAS (WD My Cloud 3TB).

I got a Xbox One S because of promotion from Microsoft. It is surprisingly good for streaming. I do not really play big games myself so the Xbox will be mainly for streaming and casual gaming.

I do not have a 4K TV myself, only a cheap Akira 40inch 1080p dumb TV, so I do not need to worry about 4K or HDR.

Ref: my post in the Nvidia Shield TV thread.
Actually I just bought the Xbox One S and my first impression is pretty positive. Of course on the apps side Nvidia Shield TV will beat Xbox One S and One X hands down.

Not a real gamer and I am only into old games and casual games (Wii owner but I have not touched it for quite some time. I invested quite a bit on Wii, with Wii Fit, dancing mat, extra Wii Remote, Classic controller and bought old NES/SNES/N64 games and Sega games on the Wii Shop).

So this Xbox One S is just an impulse buy and I have no intention to pay for the games in the near future.

#######

Got IPTV player apps which work well.

Got RSS player app which works well.

Got iQiyi, Mango TV and Sohu Video Chinese version. Missing Youku and Tencent Video though.

Got Edge browser but unfortunately SingTel Cast does not work from the edge player.

Got free and paid apps from the Microsoft Store as well for live TV, movie and drama.

Got Kodi and Plex as well (not tested). VLC Player works well with my WD Mycloud personal NAS.

Got a paid app which claims to support Airplay and Google Cast but I do not need the app and do not want to try.

Got 4K UHD Blu-ray player function and support Netflix 4k. Has YouTube app and Amazon Prime Video app as well.

As mentioned in previous reply, Netflix puts higher priority on HDR than 4k in terms of status display.

4k HDR -- display HDR
4k no HDR -- display 4K
1080p HDR -- display HDR (not so common in terms of contents).
1080p no HDR -- display HD (?)

So the only problem is whether it is 4k HDR or 1080p HDR. I think you can try disable HDR on Mi Box S and Mi TV to see if it will display 4k or not.

You can try other TV to see if that still happens or not. If that works, then the issue is more with Mi TV.

Or you can try the following to debug the issue.
1) Use Ethernet connection
2) Set Mi Box S output resolution to 1080p to see if the issues go away.
3) Set Mi Box S output to 4k 30fps to see if the issues go away.

If one of the above works, the issue may be more towards the Mi Box S side.

OMG thank you bro!!! We are finally free from this ********. Nearly went down today to get my mi box S LOL. Time to enjoy my TV now :)

Anyway I forgot how I got the flickering issue to stop. I just started configuring my mi box S according to the skyjuiceiswater blog post and it somehow stops.
