New rig - will it meet my needs?

Hi all

Went to dynacore today

I asked for a $1,500 rig that can play game

he gave me these recommendations:

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
Motherboard: GIGABYTE B550M AORUS ELITE $472
RAM: KLEVV BOLT X 3200MHz CL16 (AMD) 16GB $95
GPU: Galax GTX1660 Super 1-Click OC 6GB Twin Fan GDDR6 $325
SSD: Samsung 2.5"860 Evo $115
HDD: Seagate Barracuda $139
PSU: Seasonic Core GM-550W Semi Modular $117
Case: Tecware Nexus Air Tempered Glass casing(4Fans) $65

Total cost: $1,328

Because I don't know ask him question like whether can play cyberpunk 2077 at 60fps, so I focus on budget first

So for this spec it is sufficient? or I need to increase to few hundred to play comfortably

What resolution & game graphic setting you are looking at? Gpu wise spec wise look abit low if want to game at higher resolution like 1440p and high setting. Anyway as per others have advised, do wait and see what Amd offering for their next gen cpu & gpu first.

2560 x 1080 (widescreen), otherwise 1920 x 1080 is ok

Graphic setting at high, no need to be ultra high as it will require RTX 3080 which exceeds my budget

Yeah especially the GPU is basically low-end. The CPU is the lower end of mid-range.

You might get away with 1920x1080 at medium settings.

r5 3600 is a strong cpu and wont bottleneck ur gpu. 1660 super is also competent, on 1070 performance level, should be able to sustain >60fps on 1080p ultra on most games. if looking for 1440p then will need upgrade to say an rtx2060 or better. as for cyberpunk 2077, it hasnt even released so cant say for sure if the 1660 super can handle.

however, do wait for zen 3 to arrive to see if there are better value offerings before buying anything. i dont think there will be much new things on the mid range gpu front so buying ur 1660 super now wouldnt be risky.

other things i would recommend u change are the ssd and case. for ssd u can consider getting a nvme drive, even good quality dramless ones. they will be significantly faster than a regular sata 2.5", think a few thousand MB/s read and writes. also do consider switching the case for a better one, the nexus cases are cheap but the airflow is bad and the quality is so-so (speaking from experience); perhaps the coolermaster nr400 or silverstone ps-15rgb will do the job better, especially since ur building with a matx mobo.

Bro PSU better get 750W or 850W gold, spend abit more for PSU is worth it.

CPU and GPU can wait for the upcoming AMD announcements if you're not in a rush.As some have suggest for GPU, RTX3060 OR 3070 is good.

i have used it to run a OC3600+2070s OC before.

if hes looking at 1.5k, its a good choice already. and a 1TB pcie ssd will push him out of his budget.

1TB SSD is ~$300 or less? 500gb if he wants it <$200. Unless he is gonna use the full capacity of HDD. Then no choice.
There are people with SSD w HDD combo, they can't even finish the SSD space. HDD is like a few GB outta TBs of capacity.

Sorry. But 550W? I thought most will recommend at least 750W? More room to work with in the future.
