Xiaomi AX3600 SSH guide for hackers, not for average users, also works for AX1800 and Redmi AX5. Redmi AX6 is said to be more difficult.

Thanks for the tip.

The screens are not the problem but somehow I could not find the way to open the bottom cover, my version is a bit different from the online videos. But I will try again later.

Got it opened with the help of my wife.

Comfast Intel AX200 based wifi card from Taobao. Acer Swift 3 Core i5-8250U laptop bought in Dec 2017.

Now you can use AX3600 Global FW for SingTel VLAN tagging.

For AX1800 and Redmi AX5, you may need to gain SSH first and then manually carry out VLAN configuration.

YouTube guide from an Malaysia user in Chinese
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4995315

From Lawyat forum:
*******
These XiaoMi routers are OpenWRT based, logically once you get SSH access, you can do whatever you want, if you familiar with OpenWRT. From my personal experience, the AX3600 beats all my routers/APs in hand, including Asus GT-AC5300/AC86U, Huawei AX3/AX3 Pro, Ubiquiti nanoHD/LR, Aruba IAP-225/IAP-315, MikroTik cAP ac/hAP ac2/Audience and many many more in terms of coverage and speed.

Also, instead of writing their own firmware, XiaoMi decided to use OpenWRT and put a pretty GUI on top of it, so it's basically OpenWRT router + official Qualcomm driver(NSS enabled), with a decent skin, stability isn't a problem anymore, and due to official driver, performance is great too, it can also do QoS with full speed of my 800/200 Unifi plan.

Regarding mesh, I see no lagging during roaming APs, 802.11 k/v and Qualcomm Wifi-Son supported, tested with ping in iPhone, FaceTime and MobileLegend. Love it!

AX1800 is about 5% lower than AX3600 in WiFi, and can only do QoS at about 500mbps, without QoS can fully run my 800/200mbps.

nice. do u have the link to the wifi card?

RMB78 now from Taobao. But you may find local shop as well. Comfast brand is kind of the better one among no brand vendors. PCIE version for desktop is at RMB109 in the same Iink.

thanks man. speed looks very fast for wifi.

This is actually normal for wifi 6 2*2 AX 160MHz client. It is not uncommon to see above 900Mbps results, and it is limited by the 1Gbps ISP plan and gigabit Ethernet port.

For those with 1+1 Gbps plan and a Dual WAN router like RT-AX86U, you can get >1Gbps speed from 2*2 160MHz AX client (eg: Intel AX200 wifi card), or even 2*2 AC 160MHz client (eg: Intel AC-9560 wifi card).

Take note Xiaomi AX3600 supports 4*4 AX 80MHz and not 160MHz. Xiaomi upcoming AX6000 should support 4*4 AX 160MHz.

Hi thank Jess for teaching! Always wanted to learn.

Here the all awaited 2.5gbps wired from my AX86U 2.5gbps port local speed test!

This is my Huawei P30 Pro using wifi 5 result! quite shock at this speed too lol!

Can a ax3600 mesh with ax1800 in router mode first, then switch to AP mode and still work?

Hey guys, I bought the AX3600 and it came shipped with 3.0.16 global firmware. I've configured the vlan since I'm using singtel. I find it's range very lacking, pretty much similar to the default free singtel router I was using previously. It's very disappointing considering this has 6 antennas and the free router is half the size and no antenna.

Now I'm considering to change to chinese firmware since most people are saying it has better range(is it true?). Would I lose the vlan settings if I change the firmware?

You will lose the VLAN preset profiles with the Chinese FW.

But you can try to manually enabling VLAN after gaining access to SSH. The following Youtube video is by a Malaysian and it is in Mandarin.

VLAN profile for Singtel ONT users:
Internet: VLAN 10 prio 0
Singtel TV: VLAN 20 prio 4 (no need if you do not have).

Which version of the chinese firmware do I need to do the SSH? The latest 1.0.67 cannot right?

Edit: just saw the video description recommending 1.0.17

If you are tech savvy, you can read and change CountryCode in bdata (mtd9 partition) from EU to CN or for that matter even SG.

Global rom units are coded to EU for CountryCode in bdata and the max tx power is LOW.. for compliance reasons. as you can see from part of the script below. 2.4GHz power is only 14dbm and 5GHz power is only 16dbm!

if [ "$bd_country_code" = "EU" ]; then
if [ "$bdmode" = "24G" ]; then
max_power=14
else
if [ "$channel" -ge 100 ]; then
max_power=23
else
max_power=16
fi
fi
if [ $ifname = "wl2" ]; then
max_power=13
fi
fi

i did not test china firmware on EU bdata (cos I changed it the first thing i took it out of box) but i highly suspect that china rom will not do the above checks and use the tx power in it's default setting. VLAN should be available on china firmware GUi as well. if not then enable ssh and do that from ssh cli.

imho if you are not tech savvy, AX3600 is quite limiting given how bad the GUI has stripped down from fully blown luci. But it's a tweak paradise if you get your hands dirty.
