Not a fan of BT headphones as I use either DAP or my handphones (with iBasso DC02 + various wired IEMs) for my listening needs. Recently, my firend upgraded t the XM4, so he traded the headphone with me with some cash top on my side, so now, I'm a proud owner of the XM3. I must say, I like the creamy bass and ANC feature, and suits me for when I just wanna chill (without bothering about cables) when I'm out and about.

Just opened up the WF-1000XM3 box and did the connecting and setting up via the Sony headphones connect app, did a trial run with it and I must say the ANC is awesome and slightly better than AirPods Pro. What I like about toggling between modes by tapping on the left earpiece is that it'll give you a verbal confirmation on whether your ambient is on, off or in noise cancellation.

Usually I'll leave the EQ to off as it's the best SQ to me (neutral). Overall sound as compared to my B&O E8 3rd Gen, it's nearly on par, but the E8 has no ANC.

Remember to install the Sony headphones app so that you can update the firmware

For WF-1000xm3, there is a firmware update dated 30 Sep 2020.

For WH-1000xm3, the firmware version should be 4.5.2

After you updated the firmware, recommended to do a few initial setup such as Noise Cancellation Optimizer, 360 Reality Audio, and even analyse your ear shape

Oh! And the voice notification...you can toggle it OFF or ON

Yes I'm on current latest version for WF-1000XM3. But the 360 Reality Audio requires the mentioned music service subscription to experience it, so I skipped as I've already Spotify and Apple Music.

I’m not a fan of the 360 audio thingy, but music on TIDAL really sounds much nicer (clearer and “cleaner”) than Spotify.

Probably. TIFAL HiFi is at Lossless CD quality (1411kbps or 16bit / 44.1kHz). The sound is much richer.

I would alternate between TIDAL and Spotify, but would only use TIDAL when they have good promotions like $2.99 for 3 months type.

Yes read that TIDAL Hifi uses FLAC but Spotify is still on 320kbps AAC, which is still very high quality.

I'm now on Spotify Premium and Apple Music, both subscribed via Singtel so I get free data streaming. They also have TIDAL Hifi but at $15.90/mth for 12-mth contract or $19.90/mth for no contract, pretty steep.

Yes, the difference in quality is there. If they had a wider selection of songs, I think it would have been worth the extra money. They need to work harder in that respect.

Their HiFi plans are steep, so I only go for promo plans, and can afford to not use it for a while when there are no promotions.

Think we're paying just for that extra high quality and the WF-1000XM3 can make use of the 360 reality audio. Too bad Spotify does not support it.

That's too steep per month.

two ways...

1) Change the sizing of your ear tips. iirc Sony WF-1000xm3 come with 7 different ear tips sizings. feel free to mix and match them around to get the right fit

2) otherwise, get 3rd party wingtip from Shopee, Lazada or Taobao
