Anyone uses CloudSync to also backup and sync your clould storage? I notice there is no option for Mega.

Anyone knows how to setup Mega as I have alot of past project photos and video I want to sync.

Is this what you all get when your NAS goes to sleep?

My NAS doesn't show up straight away. But if I type "\\NAS", I can access the files.

Does anyone know where can buy the power supply unit locally for DS1815 model. Is not using power adaptor so my guess should be a power supply board inside the unit.

If it is urgent, can try this out first while you get the PSU replacement.

i looking for some help here. my ds918+ yesterday keep sending me improper shutdown notification alert every10-30mins

The email content:
Synology ran into a problem and was shut down improperly. This could be caused by power failure or other reasons and may result in severe data loss. Therefore, we highly recommend using an SNMP or USB UPS to protect your device and data if you don't already have one installed.

Then when i went back home to look at the server, i see blue light power led keep blinking.

I shutdown the server by holding the power led. Now the nightmare begin.

I bring back the power back again. The blue light keep blinking. And sometimes it have a beep sound. It seems like it went into a reboot loop.

Then I remove all the drive, the nas was able to boot up and solid blue light. Synology assistant was able to detect it.

I slowly insert all the drive in, the drives led all green but Synology assistant 's status show "Not Installed". As tho it is a first time setup.

Now, i boot up the 1st disk(from the left), the power led turn solid blue for a while then beep sound then blinking blue light again.

2nd-4th disk just keep blinking led when i boot it up individually.

A few hours later, the nas cant even boot up. no light at all.

My warranty for the nas and the HGST drive still left a few weeks. Should i bring them into the service center? Will i face data loss?

I am sitting on the fence with regard to Synology/QNAP/DIY NAS.

I compared the 5 year cost of using NAS plus one cloud provider (Google One 2TB tier), versus dual cloud provider (Google One 2TB, plus Microsoft Office 365 Family with up to 6*1TB), it seems to be cheaper to go with dual cloud providers, if I only need 2TB.

Compared configuration:
DS420+ with 4*4TB or 4*8TB
DS220+ with 2*4TB or 2*8TB

Then if you need another NAS to back the NAS, wow, that is a very significant cost adder.

Do you guys always run your NAS 7*24? I have not got any USB HDD failed as I only use them on demand, say once per week. And for my personal cloud WD MyCloud 3TB, even less, like once per month.

Haha, I already got enough USB 3.0 HDDs, 3*4TB (one Apple APFS, one NTFS, one exFAT) and a few smaller ones. I copy all photos three times, one on Google Photos, two on external HDDs. As for documents, two times on local HDDs. There are quite some useless stuff though like old Windows/Mac/Linux application/driver/ISO download. Useful data worth uploading to the cloud will mainly be the photos and probably a bit of documents. So 2TB tier should last for quote a while, say 5years or more.

I also got 2*512GB and 2*256GB low end external SSDs (3* HP P500 and 1* WD Passport Go) as temporary storage, one of them is used to run Ubuntu Linux 20.04 on my Acer Swift 3 laptop.

Price comparison of Dual Cloud vs NAS.

Just for comparison. If I get Google one 2TB and Office 365 Family (1TB x 6), the total cost is S$288 per year.

Buying a NAS:
Synology DS420+ with 4 x 4TB WD Red HDD, Mediapro Lazada, S$1299

Synology DS420+ with 4 x 8TB Seagate IronWolf HDD, Mediapro Lazada, S$1889

Google One:
200GB plan: S$40 per year (S$3.99 per month)
2TB plan: S$140 per year (S$13.99 per month)

Apple iCloud:
200GB: S$ 3.98 per month
2TB: S$ 12.98 per month

Office 365 Family
1TB x 6, Office, S$148 per year
