Instarem is answering it in a slightly bigger picture, as there can be many campaigns and promos runned by banks.Response from Instarem :
"Thank you for using Amaze.
If the rebate is given upfront during the payment at the merchant where for example, the cashier has to verify the type of card, or if there is a check on the Card Type at the terminal, then the rebate by the linked card issuer is not applicable.
However if the rebate is applicable post transactions, example rebate is credited on a monthly basis, then the rebate will most likely be applicable.
Request you to please check with your bank if the rebate is applicable."
Instarem in above response says if its post transaction rebate, it should be applicable.
Whereas it did not.
In my opinion, where you have a store discount combined with an everyday rebate - this scenario might not work.
The first answer is quite straightforward where u show/tap your card and the merchant will apply the upfront petrol discount at the POS machine. If you use the amaze card, the cashier won't know what rebate to apply. That is understandable to a certain extent.
While the next part (post transaction) refers to general rebates where you it targets certain kind of spendings (e.g. grocery, telco, shopping, etc) the banks relies on the MCC to determine the eligibility of the spend to earn rebate. Then yes that's should qualify as amaze would pass the MCC down so your NTUC spends will still be grocery MCC when it goes to the bank via amaze.
What it poorly thought or worded in the response are promos that are merchant specific (also post transaction), which earlier pointed out SPC. These are the promos needing the bill description to appear starting with 'SPC' and likely a relevant MCC code to match. If description differs (in this case, amaze* SPC) then the system cannot pick it up automatically. And for your this particular card transaction, the merchant you 'charged' your card to is 'Instarem' (amaze) and not SPC.
It is still currently a grey area and whether the banks deems amaze as a disruptive product to their card business to determine if they want to allow such txns the green light to earn the rebates such as SPC promos or rebates in the near future.
