Need help here. Lost track of how Instarem have nerf.
I am planning an overseas purchase of around SGD$6-7k purchase.
Should I link my citi rewards to insta and make full payment?
any cap from insta or citi rewards in terms of the reward?

If you are able to split across many different cards, I would suggest:
  1. Amaze + Citi Rewards (1k SGD, about 0.5cpm ignoring opportunity cost)
  2. Chocolate Visa (1k SGD, no cost only opp cost)
  3. Maribank (1.5k, no miles 1.5% cashback)
  4. Trust Credit Card (no cap, no miles 1% cashback)
If you are limited to 3 cards (which is typical), I would actually suggest to go like this in this order:
  1. Chocolate Visa (1k SGD)
  2. Maribank (1.5k SGD, 1.5% cashback)
  3. Trust Credit Card (no cap, 1%)
Reason being your first 3 cards are limited by a spending cap, so you have to rely on Trust CC to pay for at least 4k (if you drop Maribank) or 3.5k (if you drop Amaze or Chocolate). Choosing which of the 3 cards to drop is easy assuming your miles valuation is 1.5cpm:
  1. If the choice is between Chocolate and Amaze, Chocolate wins because Chocolate cost 0cpm while Amaze costs 0.5cpm (ignoring the same opportunity cost)
  2. If you drop Maribank, the cost per mile of Chocolate and Amaze are 1.5cpm and 2cpm respectively if you include opportunity cost (because you are giving up the 1.5% cashback). That means that Maribank is always a better choice than Amaze.
  3. Since Maribank > Amaze and Chocolate > Amaze, that is why if you are only allowed to pay using 3 cards, you should drop Amaze.
The only time Amaze > Maribank is if your miles valuation is more than 2cpm, which is higher than average and what most bloggers recommend. And if your miles valuation is below 1cpm, just go cashback entirely (not even chocolate visa)

should compare mpd also instead of just cpm?

Comparing mpd works when we are earning the miles for free. But when we are essentially paying a fee to buy miles (because we are giving up on the cashback value here) then I think it is clearer how much we are paying for each mile we earn hence cpm. cpm is also better when comparing across both miles + cashback, and not just miles alone.

The way u compare even a 0.00001 mpd card with no fx card is better than Amaze+crmc, clearly not the case?

Think better to determine value of miles and convert everything to rebate

From last year a few redemption for Eco class tickets, it seems nowadays KF miles devalued to around 1¢ per mile? Previously like 2¢ per miles around.

True. I just try to figure out a rough "fair value" just for the sake to compare with cashback. If to put it for 1c-1.5c per mile, so the 4pm card is comparable with 4-6% cashback.
