Please don't look down on Newcastle United. They were the same as Man City. Nearly relegated the season before Sheikh takeover

Remember that "single year partnership" under Thaksin Shinawatra and Sven Goreng Eriksen? Man City were all along playing as one of the relegation candidates, trying their best to survive from the drop.

And even though they manage to survive in the end, everything looks bleak for the club's future and everyone predicts them to be relegated the following season. And worse still, they got trashed 8-1 by Middlesborough on the last day of that season.

But look what happen after that? Abu Dhabi came to the club, they create a Mark Hughes and Robinho partnership, and within 2 years, they just missed out on Champions League places by a single point. And another 2 years later they were crowned champions of England.

So don't look down on Newcaslte this season. They are in the situation similar to that of Man City. This takeover could be crucial where we could be witnessing the start of a brand new era.

Dun think any one is looking down on them.
But, they will have to go through 3 to 4 seasons before they can become a candidate to challenge for top 4.
Unless they can get a competent manager to short cut the process.
He will also need at least 2 seasons to do it.

For the time being, they still need to do the climb.

Since when
Sven bought players he watched on VHS tapes using Thaksin money and they weren't all bad
Before Thaksin came in, they were always up and down but more down
With Thaksin, they were looking on the up

They were generally doing OK under Stuart Pearce, but not to the extend of challenging for top-4 places. The only high point was their involvement in the Intertoto Cup. After Stuart Pearce left, it has been a decline and Sven Goreng Eriksen bring it down to the next level.

Maybe a perfect fit job for Jose Mourinho. Such a waste that he decline their vacant offer when the club let go Rafa Benitez

Sven brought them to 9th and Europe and gave them record points at that stage
He was sacked by Thaksin cos his expectations were high
Sven didn't do too bad
But City was exactly what you expect from a team with limited budget and average players BEFORE Thaksin came in

Mourinho just after his next big pay day
And hopefully he can find a job that accepts his defensive coaching tactics, win something and brag how great he is again

I think he have to make his mark with Roma first.
He seems to have lost his way or he is unable to manage or control the present generation of strawberry players.
I guess you already see him struggling at Spurs.
So, I am not so sure he want to waste his time to re-build NU from the bottom to the top 4.
They need some one else to do the dirty work.
Howe can do the job for the moment.
Poche can take over next season when he sacked from PSG.

Must laugh while we still can
Can laugh for sometime

Due to FFP, its not that easy for them to go full retard and spend 400 million on 2 players in 1 transfer window like Paris and not get heavily penalized by English FA

Mourinho seems to be on verge of getting sacked by Roma
Anyway doubt he'll last
The new American owners and Portuguese Director must be morons to buy into Mourinho after so many failures

Even if they are relegated, they will get promoted next season and win bpl within the next 10 years. Money is the key. It is never which team but who has the financial capability to spend more.
