more like the new wifi equipment helped with your "laggy" experience instead of the 500 to 1Gb jump.

I think for anyone on 500mbps and can recontract, definitely worthwhile upgrading to 1gbps and taking the smart wifi pro. You pay $200 more over 2 years, but the smart wifi pro is worth more than that (one brand new set going for about 250-270 on carousell), and you get double the speed. Of course if you don't have too many device or don't game then maybe less incentive to upgrade

Need some clarifications. For the linksys mx4200, i will need to get a 5 port switch from tp link? My fiber optical port etc is in the yard so its at a super ulu spot, watched a youtube vid saying to put a main node in there and another 2 nodes in the furthest room and living room. Any 5 port switch will work? Looking at getting the 2gbps plan. Thanks!

Just recontracted the 1gbps plan with SH, got 1 unit of the new smart wifi Pro (which is the linksys AX4200), and paid $192 for a second unit.

The speed is super fast and even on WiFi it was possible to hit about 400mbps. Very pleased with it and would recommend it for people looking to upgrade to WiFi 6 routers at a cheaper cost
Am constantly hitting 500Mbps or more on wifi 5 equipment. Was doing about 620Mbps until a neighbour installed a new router - noticed it was quite aggressively configured too.

It's not the Wifi6 on the router that gave the better speed. It's more likely because of improved coverage with new equipment. You can get up to 600Mbps over 802.11ac if you understand how wifi works, configure it properly and lay out your access points appropriately for optimal coverage. Monitor over time and see how it goes, as all the wifi traffic in your neighbourhood will settle over time into a more regular pattern.

In the case of Starhub 1Gbps, it is for sure much better to get Linksys MX4200 (AX4200 rated, triband) compared to a pair of Nokia Beacon 1 (AC1200 rated), even if you do not have Wifi 6 clients. S$192 for a second unit is also very decent for Linksys MX4200.

Wifi speed can be pretty good (>800Mbps) for laptops/desktops with common Intel AX200/Intel AX201 wifi adapters. And add-on adapters are pretty cheap if your laptop/desktop do not have built-in Wifi 6 adapters. Now my two home laptops, my Mac Mini M1 have all got Wifii 6 adpaters. And my Dell work laptop (Intel AC9560, 2*2 AC 160MHz support) also got very good wireless boost with Wifi 6 router because of the 160MHz channel support even though it is not equiped with Wifi 6.

Even with my Starhub 500Mbps plan, I upgraded the main router to Huawei AX3 Pro (AX3000 rated).

Just a quick wireless speed test, today it is a good day for Singtel Speedtest server (recently perfomrs well, not like before).

Singtel 1Gbps plan,
Asus RT-AX82U router,
Acer Swift Laptop ( i5-1135G7, 16GB/512GB, Windows 11, Intel AX201 wifi adapter), 1m away from router
Singtel SpeedTest server

They changed the Singtel server. Mentioned in the international speedtests thread. There's a new serverID, and the old one throws up errors.

I am a current SH subscriber on 500mbps plan too (my own home as well as my mum's home), using the Google WiFi mesh (3 units), am staying in a 4yo 5-room BTO.

My own home's plan is up next month and I just called to enquire the recontract promos.

I'm keen to upgrade to the 1gbps plan, mainly because I realise we have quite alot of devices and the network feels quite laggy at night. Am offered the 2 plans by the CSO:

Plan A: 1gbps, $39.90, 3months free, 2 units of smart wifi (Nokia)

Plan B: 1gbps,$39.90, 1mth free, 1 unit of smart wifi Pro (linksys)

The CSO told me that for the smart wifi Pro it's recommended that I get 2 units, and that requires a top up of $12/mth. Otherwise I can go to carousell and get a unit for about $250.

Anyone with review of the Nokia smart wifi?
the CSO mentioned that smart wifi pro is not free. need to top up.

how did you all manage to get the free smart wifi pro package?

sharing some offers from CSO. Was quoted new sign up package similar to the website. Seems like the CSO I gotten wasn't good in offers.

New sign up 1Gbps @ $45.90 per month:
- 5 months free (effective monthly $34.9 based on 21 months)
- Disney plus 2 years
- $8 top up for Smart wifi pro

This seems to be pretty decent if compared to other ISPs like Singtel and M1.

When I called the main line (1633) the CSO didn't seem to know the offers, and even suggested I consider terminating my contract when I reached the last day, return the equipment and sign up as a new customer at the SH shop.

I wrote an email saying that they didn't seem to value customers who wanted to recontract and it didn't make sense to go through the process of terminating my contract and applying as a new customer. They replied within the same day and told me to call 1630. Thereafter I was offered the 2 deals and I ended up taking the free 1 mth plan with the linksys AX4200. If you choose the smart wifi (Nokia), then a top up of $8/mth to the AX4200 is required (but you should be getting 3 mths free instead)

Can the Starhub Linksys MX4200 Mesh Router or the free Nokia Beacon 1 work with Asus XT8 router? Must the mesh units be all from the same brand, model?

Mesh technology now still require the same brand to work.

So XT8 Asus will need another Asus AIMESH supported device.

Linksys mesh same will need another Linksys device.

i dropped by a sh shop yesterday and checked out their offers.

for 1Gbps:
there is a $57 activation charge (they said it's not NLT charge)
there is also a $57 disconnection charge when you terminate (this is supposed to be the NLT charge).

just mentioning, so no surprises in future.

also, the sales fella said, they cannot make any amendments to the offers ie take it or leave it.

for 500Mbps:
just 29.90/month. no router, no discounts.
same $57 for activation and disconnection charges.

Seems like they still haven't done away with the disconnection charge. This is odd, since NLT says they don't charge disconnection fees.

By right the charges are documented here. And disconnection charge is S$32.10. They seem to charge S$32.10 for downgrading as well (from 1Gbps to 500Mbps).
