prefer projector...one factor for me is screen light doesn't hit eyes. bigger screen jin shiok. the main reason I'm more restless watching a film at home than at a cinema is because screen too small many distractions.

Why not have both?

TV for casual watching shows most of the time.
Brightness for TV is good and watching with bright
ambient light is suitable for the eyes without straining.
Resolution is good too and details are clearer.
Good for long term watching without spoiling your eyes.

As for the and Projector , its suited more for Movies and Games
which do not require accurate resolution like racing and arcade fighting.
Low light ambient and brightness makes it only suitable for occasional
use like movies and games during weekends. Not suitable for prolonged
watching all the time.

you can read these though I didn't read all

https://www.projectorcentral.com/4k-projectors-defined.htm

To no surprise, this has fueled a lot of controversy over what is "true 4K" and what is often disparagingly referred to as "faux-4K" or simply "faux-K." This term is widely used by industry personnel, reviewers, and consumers alike. It often connotes that there is something inauthentic and undesirable about the pixel shifting technologies and the 4K projectors that use them.
In reality, pixel shifting has produced rapid advances in picture resolution at prices far lower than you must pay for projectors that have native resolution 4K chips.

I think all in all, means the difference is getting narrowed

Yes, the article also mentioned that brightness and contrast plays a very important factor.

We have gone to a point where resolution is no longer the sole determining factor. It's now more of just another factor and it's smaller one. Image processing, contrast, colours, brightness etc has a way bigger effect on perceived sharpness and picture quality than simply resolution. This is also why it extremely hard to tell if a blu-ray is in native 4k resolution or upscaled from 2k source.

Many bluray sold in the market today are actually "fake 4k". They use 2k video and upscale it to 4k.

Both is good but there is added cost. Now you need to buy both projector and tv. Unless you have lots of $$$, you can't have best of both worlds.

For me, I sacrifice the TV. Just get a cheap 42" hd tv (not even 4k)... It's mainly for my wife's drama... I don't see the need for a big 4k tv here.

I thought of it as well... Originally wanted to mount tv on wall and use retractable screen... Later, decide to just get a fix screen. I bring tv down put on floor when watching movie... LoL..

WTF.

same thinking, prefer a fix wall over retractable screen but will paint the wall grey using black widow (paint mix) and only problem is to watch movies need to bring down TV and montior

2k must well buy TV tiobo?

depends on what you want. and what you using for.

and also the layout of your room.

there is no one size fits all solution that is cheap on wallet, give best picture, suitable for all occasions etc etc.

IMO watching 4k content on big screen is always a game changer.
bonus you can also invite the whole EDMW to your place watch UHD soccer (according to starhub, will be 4k content wor)

there's only 20 of us real users................so won't be too crowded for a normal living room. but bigger screen is better :ROFLMAO:

The biggest issue I think is most display and demo you see in retail store are in an environment too bright for projector to show their capability, u only get to see washed out, 0 contrast images. U probably want to go to shops in aldelphi to really get a feel of what projectors can do, amazing how much the image quality improve just by dimming the light. (Mind you, not complete darkness)

I always wanted to get a OLED tv til I went to test out projectors, it's just so much more immersive with the big screen. Ultra short throw is a disappointment though, the black level & contrast sucks, go for traditional overhang type.

One thing to consider also probably the distance between ur front and back wall, if u can't give enough distance for your overhang projector to throw a >85inch screen, then a 85 inch tv will definitely be a better choice.

I ended getting a epson tw9400, managed to throw ~105 inch on a fix screen for ~3.6m between the walls.

Hidden cost for overhang projector is real though, they don't come with speakers, after factoring an AVR and a pair for stereo speaker, u may end up paying more than a set of LED TV.

Doctor strange multiverse of madness was the last movie I watched in cinema at cineleisure, after adding a pair for wireless surround for my setup, going 4.0. I'll dare say the experience watching it on Disney+ is much better vs cinema, u always get the best seating. :sneaky:

yes

that's why i thought the anker one is interesting at that price point.

for sound i turned to sony to solve the problem.

my problem is I don't have a console at the front at all :o :o :o :o

my front is a blank wall that serves as the screen

You should go with TV since you are so cost conscious.

Not sure if the newer projectors still use bulbs that require replacement.

I used to have a retractable screen. But its smaller, only 100".....lol...

You can start off with a wall (Thats what I did), then move to screen later....

Btw, I install everything myself.... Mount projector, screen, wiring etc... all DIY.

Yes, Epson projectors do not have short throw so distance matters.

But then, for audio applies to TV as well. No doubt TV comes with sound but they are hardly "cinematic". So, even with TV, one would still need to invest in audio system to enhance the sound.

4K & 8K film is expensive, both the equipment and the film.

thus those small halls in SG only use the normal one.
I have just upgraded 1080p to 4K nia though it has been some years since the latter just emerged in the market
ever thought of getting Sharp 8K TV at half the retail price of about $8k too but no 8K bluray content
think probably not selling those 1080P movies, can keep and watch it especially at old age lol

Just curious, as personally I don't consume or have any 4K media.

What are the media for 4K?
