se 224 is more than enough for a 12400/5600x. se 226 can have headroom for upgrade cpu also.

what is weird that i noticed there is no longer any lighted LED on my Asus motherboard anymore. I had checked all connectors, on off so many times, but theres no LED (except on graphics card), no sound, nothing. Can i declared that my Motherboard is faulty? Correct me if i missed out any steps in troubleshooting. Speaking of which, when i first observed sparks and burnt smell on my old PUS earlier, could it "fry" the mother board as well?
if there used to be leds on ur mobo before ur psu blew up, eg for post sequence, then it is a reasonable conclusion to make that it is dead. when a psu goes, any part could be damaged, so yes it is also possible that the mobo is one of those damaged parts. not to be a pessimist, but the 1070 still having its led doesnt guarantee that it is working fine either. if u want to be sure, u can bring it to some sls shops that can help to determine which parts are still working.
In the worst case scenario, seem like i had bought this new PSU for nothing.
not necessarily, u can now build a new pc with it (which seems to be the plan :s21:). its also a good value and quality psu that not many are aware of.
CPU/MObo: i5 12400 + MSI Pro B660M (can only find wifi version so far)
Cooler: i dont overclock, can i use default stock cooler?
good choice of cpu + mobo. the stock cooler is fine, though if u have the budget u wont go wrong opting for 3rd party coolers as others have recommended.
SSD: Can i use back existing samsung 840/850 SSD, or might as well to upgrade to PCI NVME SSD as well? any particular SSDs to recommend?
Go with Samsung. It's quite a safe choice. 980, 970 Evo Plus.
yeah u can reuse ur ssds (if they havent been damaged), and like i mentioned in a previous post, if they work fine for u and u dont have complaints abt the speeds, i dont see a need to upgrade. i would pick the 970 series over 980 non pro though.
Case: NR400? corsair 4000D? i am not a pro, so a newbie friendly case recommendation will be good.
either are good cases. nr400 would fit ur mobo size better since it is an matx case while the 4000d is a full atx case, though that also means u have more space to work with. just dont go for budget tecware cases, except for the fusion which can be an interesting build.
You can't overclock the 12400.
actually, u can.
the board featured in this video (b660m mortar max wifi) is actually also sold in sg with local corbell warranty, and the kicker is that it is not that much more expensive than ur regular standalone b660m-a pro board (the same if u buy standalone from nvx on carou, dynacore puts a ~$20 premium for the bundle with the 12400/f). to me this feature + the stronger vrm makes the premium worth, but since ts doesnt want to overclock, sticking to the pro board is still a solid choice.
It sounds like your old PSU fail to protect your rig from short circuit. Well, that's the consequences of having cheap PSU.
i dont think the leadex is considered a "cheap psu" :s13:
first time i heard a super flower psu blow up tho.

hi all, thanks all for the replies.

Update: My Superflower legion 650W PSU arrived and immediately setup with my old rig. However, my PC still refused to boot up. I googled online for help, tried the paperclip in PSU method, verified my new PSU is working fine, even my PC fans are working. I noticed there is a green LED on my GTX 1070 Amp, which i assumed nothing wrong with my graphics card. what is weird that i noticed there is no longer any lighted LED on my Asus motherboard anymore.

In the worst case scenario, seem like i had bought this new PSU for nothing. Now i have to start sourcing for the remaining individual parts now, which includes new Mobo+CPU, RAM, case and new SSDs as well. Kindly enlighten me on the parts selection below, using my newly bought 650W PSU and my existing Zotac 1070 for now:

CPU/MObo: i5 12400 + MSI Pro B660M (can only find wifi version so far)
Cooler: i dont overclock, can i use default stock cooler?
RAM: Klevv Bolt - 2 x8GB 3600MHz RAM
SSD: Can i use back existing samsung 840/850 SSD, or might as well to upgrade to PCI NVME SSD as well? any particular SSDs to recommend?
Case: NR400? corsair 4000D? i am not a pro, so a newbie friendly case recommendation will be good. currently using CM N200 case, but some parts are rusty, i might as well change new

Noted and thanks for the replies, i will keep a lookout for 3060ti...hopefully on sale soon.

Usually if the motherboard on board light have died means the board have also died.
Especially since you already change the power supply.

MSI PRO B660M-A WIFI D4 ++ Intel i5 12400 - $524
RAM: Corsair Veng LPX 3200MHz CL16 16GB - $109
SSD: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB - $99
Take note if you want to reuse you need to install Windows from fresh. (Not Windows reset)
Is a totally new CPU and motherboard so will need a fresh install of Windows.
Whether if you want to upgrade to Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB is up to you.
Casing wise you have to see which suits you.

Total: $732
For CPU cooler wise, take note stock cooler are rather noisy and loud especially for gaming.
Like most have recommend the ID cooling which is a good HSF for Intel i5 2400.
Graphic card wise like MSI RTX 3060 ti will cost around $769.

You can go around SLS ask for better price for this specs or ask them for a better specs.

That is leadex, slapped with 5 years warranty, It isn't leadex III.
leadex iii also only has 5 yr warranty. anyway, ts already listed that he built his pc in 2016, leadex iii only launched 2019, leadex ii 2017, so likely leadex was their flagship psu then.

You probably want to disconnect your SSD, ram, and GPU, then turn it on to see if the same symptoms occur.
I had tried again on ur recommendations, sadly, there is still no LED or any sign of life on my old motherboard.
You can't overclock the 12400. it will run too hot with no power limits using the stock cooler. I suggest using any of these 3 coolers. Pick accordingly to your budget.

SE 224 XT Black
SE 226 XT Black
Scythe Fuma 2

A noob-friendly case is probably Meshify 2 Compact, a good all-rounder but expensive.

NR400 and 4000D are both fine.

What kind of size are you looking for? And the front panel, do you need USB C? Need RGB?
USB C or RGB not needed.

Thanks for the recommendation! May i know whats the reason for choosing RAM with 3200Mhz instead of 36o0Mhz?

Which reminds me, my previous windows was tied to the OEM motherboard, i remembered its some student edition windows key back then in 2016 which is cheap but not transferable. May i know if such cheaper windows key still available? If not, whats the recommended method for buying windows nowadays? say buy a cheaper windows 10 and self upgrade to windows 11?

Pardon me for asking, how do i register warranty for superflower PSU?

1) For the PSU warranty, no need to register but you need to keep both the receipt and box
for warranty claim.
2) RAM wise difference between DDR4 3200 and DDR4-3600 isn't big difference.
3) CD key wise this one I cannot comment, if you want to buy "cheap" keys than it's up to you.
OEM version sold at SLS retail around $150.
For Intel i5 12400 since there are no E cores so you can use Win 10 no issue.
However if you wish to upgrade to CPU like Intel i5 12600k with E core than you will need Win 11
to tap on the E core.
Previous Windows key are not transferable especially "cheap" keys so you will have to get a new license.

for buying 3060ti, is there any brand i should look out for or recommend? eg asus, gigabyte, zotac? (i dont overclock btw) Looking at dynacore pricelist for example, I am surprised for 3060ti, it can range from high $600s to low-mid $700s.

Just curious why no one recommend RX 6700 XT? is it something to do with DLSS /FSR? or higher power consumption? Based on the GPU benchmarks ranking, it performs slightly better at similar price range?

its mostly because pricing locally has never been very competitive. other than a recent pct promotion which saw them go as low as 550, theyve been retailing about $100 more than 3060ti considering that the 3060ti has had quite a few promotions recently, so even with its larger vram buffer 6700xt is not really worth that premium for single digit gains at 1080p. u also lose out on rt and nvenc if u care about those.
Radeon are hardly recommended as the driver are buggy especially when there are Windows update
or new Windows version.
dont anyhow talk cock, been on radeon drivers for years and never encountered system breaking bugs. its not like nvidia drivers are immune to these kinds of problems also.

All 3060ti will perform about the same however the major different you will see will be the material use and backplate of each GPU, some are plasticky and some are mixture of metal with plastic around the gpu shroud.

my personal choice will be asus tuf series (TUF-RTX3060TI-O8G-V2-GAMING) at price $755 (dynacore price) if it is available.

I believe if you go to the store to view it personally of each GPU construction you will have better feel which is suitable for you.

perhaps the following article will help you to clear some of your enquiry:

https://www.techspot.com/review/244...ightly,performance at all tested resolutions.

This is no doubt good GPU. This card "EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 3060Ti XC" is shockingly good too. the undervolt is really insane for me.

undervolt results depends on your luck. sillicon lottery.

most nvidia cards can undervolt 150-200mv easily at stock clocks

For me I would recommend MSI first than Zotac, FYI only Zotac have five years warranty.
ASUS are pricey so not recommended if you have tight budget.

yup it greatly depends on sillicon lottery but cards can undervolt. Just a matter of mV is higher or lower. it save these factor are good enough 1) Lesser current use (save few cents on electrical bill) 2) less current use, better for GPU longevity 3) lesser heat generated. Overall system in a case will be cooler. no need to stress fans , Air cooler or Liquid cooler. (heat dissipation on heatsink and rad)

Don't' get the NR400 if your GPU is bulky. I had GPU high temperature problem even though my NR400 had 3 fans (2xintake + 1 exhaust).

hmm.. what do you think about the Asus AP201. though dust collector but it should have good cooling.

No experience on the AP201. When i bought the NR400 case, i had a 2xFan RTX 2060 Super which was extremely thick thus taking up a lot of space in the PC. This affected the volume available for cooling. Since my GPU was running hot all the time, the GPU shorted after 1 year and 10 months. Asus couldn't repair the GPU and gave me a 2xfan RTX 3060 as replacement. The RTX 3060 was slimmer than the 2060 and my high temperature problem was solved.
