Just sharing.
My partner's car had VEP RFID installed before COVID.
Recently my partner has been going into JB, & since her TnG card - linked to the app has sufficient funds (more than RM 200) - I said no need to top up the eWallet (which has less than RM 15) but use the balance from that card.
Her eWallet has sufficient balance for Toll (RM 2.37) but not for Road Charge (RM 20) but I presume TnG tech is smart enough to deduct from the card's balance.
2 days ago she drove in, Gate didn't open - normal to her - so she tapped to pay, Gate opened & drove through. The app showed Toll was deducted from the eWallet (RFID Payment) & Road Charge was deducted from the TnG card
Yesterday's trip to JB, the Gate opened automatically for her to drive through (1st time since installing VEP RFID). The app showed Toll was deducted from the eWallet (RFID Payment) but no deduction for Road Charge from TnG card.
The eWallet app flagged saying need to top up eWallet to clear what is owed (RM 20).
So based on the 2nd trip, she owes the app RM 20. I believe this is because she didn't tap (as the gate opened automatically) to trigger deduction from the TnG card.
If I go to RFID in the app, it says RFID is suspended since yesterday which was the day & time she went in without paying RM 20.♀
If the eWallet has insufficient funds, then the gate shouldn't automatically open but should continue to close, forcing the driver to use the TnG card to tap to pay. Unfortunately TnG tech may not have considered this.
How did you manage this? My TnG eWallet in mid June only allows Malaysian phone number and Malaysian registered vehicles to activate the TnG RFID.
Bro, I just copy and paste what they replied to me below for your info :
"Please be informed, the VEP Tag is unique for each vehicle and it is not transferable. Peel-off the VEP RFID tag before sold/scrapped your vehicle is necessary. You are required to do the deregistration at the counter.
If you have not retain the same vehicle registration number. You are required to register your new vehicle by click 'Register a new vehicle' button. Then, you may book the appointment and collect the VEP RFID tag accordingly. During the collection, you may request at the counter for the previous/unused vehicle to be removed from your ownership in the VEP account.
But, if you retain the same vehicle registration number. You may walk in to the counter to do the deregistration process.
These are the mandatory documents your are required to bring along.
Please prepare hardcopies of all the mandatory documents listed below:
- NRIC and Passport copy
- Notice of Transfer Ownership Issued by LTA
After complete the de-registration, you may do the registration for your new vehicle via online and book the appointment to collect your VEP RFID tag for the new vehicle."
As you can see, you need to bring the car transfer docs to the "counter" for them to verify and deregister. I still dunno what counter they are referring to, as I drove past the previous VEP installation site and the tentages are all gone. So I'm also not sure where to go for this.
This is so troublesome. I have the same problem too. Changed car, retained same license plate, but could not deactivate on VEP website. But I did noticed something after TNG app was updated not too long. I could terminate the VEP RFID on the app!!!! Honestly, I never used VEP RFID. I just installed as their govt said it is mandatory. But I did recently purchased tng RFID tag, not the VEP RFID. Just want to try try when using their highways. Thanks a lot for the info bro! I already peeled the VEP RFIG tag off my previous car before I sold it.
Seems like I will need to go to their "counter" which you mentioned the tentages are all gone. I remember I got mine fixed at a tentage along the NSH.
So this seems like both you and me are now stuck and don't know what to do. I think I try to drive in maybe this or next weekend to see if I get stopped, just to try out if they block me. I don't want to be stuck in the situation in June whereby my entire family is with me and we have hotels and stuff all booked but we get rejected at the customs.
I got my refund on the 4th week, after applied online, to my TNG e-wallet.msian cash card means T&G card? If yes, high chance invalid. No replacement and if valid above RM100, only apply for refund online and they will transfer you via TT. You need to pay for TT admin fee and takes more than 6 months to get your refund, this is what i last heard.
There is no TNG top up facility at JB custom if drive in via woodlands.
Suggest you get a new TNG card, but almost all petrol kiosk in JB area are oos.
You can try Watson. Sign up with them and the Watson card is a TNG.
Good to know.I got my refund on the 4th week, after applied online, to my TNG e-wallet.
Anyone able to register TnG eWallet for their SG car? Malaysian phone number I can buy. Can the system register non-Malaysian plate?
i am now facing the same issue. Can share if you have any solutions? unable to register new vehicle bearing the same VRN as the previous.I changed my previous car which was VEP registered to my new car and retained the carplate number.
I logged in to the VEP website to deregistered my previous car but the website gave some "array error" since 1.5 years ago till now. Any idea how can I deregistered my previous car so that I can register my new existing car which has the same carplate number?

nice.. appreciate it buddy.I have drove into Malaysia about 5-6 times since borders reopened and will be driving in again soon. I also emailed them and below is their response.
In short, it seems like we need to go to their counter physically to deactivate it and register again but their counters are not open now. Have fun for your holidays!
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your email.
Firstly, please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in response due to high incoming emails volume.
Please be informed that the VEP RFID Tag is unique for each vehicle and it is not transferable. It is compulsory to peel-off the VEP RFID tag before selling/scraping your vehicle. You would then need to deregister your vehicle over the counter.
If you are not retaining the same vehicle registration number, you are then required to register your new vehicle via VEP portal. And book for the appointment and collect the VEP RFID tag accordingly. During the collection, you would need to inform to the officer to remove previous/unused vehicle from your ownership.
However, if you are retaining the same vehicle registration number, kindly visit our VEP counter to do the deregistration. Please bring along the hardcopies of all the mandatory documents below:-
- NRIC and Passport copy
- Notice of Transfer Ownership Issued by LTA
Once the deregistration is completed, you shall proceed with your new vehicle registration via online and book the appointment to collect your VEP RFID tag for the new vehicle.
However, any update, replacement, deactivation or installation of new VEP RFID tag will only be available at a later date. Ministry of Transport, Malaysia will announce once the counter is opened or you may visit our VEP Portal frequently for new information.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding on this matter. If you are visiting Malaysia soon, kindly do ensure that you have sufficient balance of RM20 available in your Touch 'N Go card for RC payment.
Thank you.

the good part is, i've yet to collect the physical rfid previously, so let's hope they can deactiviate on their end instead of me travelling down
Thanks for the information. I could have become a expert if VEP asked me to do that on my very first car. Now into 4th car, still have not received notification to make booking and collect the TAG.I have drove into Malaysia about 5-6 times since borders reopened and will be driving in again soon. I also emailed them and below is their response.

https://soyacincau.com/2022/09/18/t...w-to-ewallet-app-update-deduct-card-balance/#
... Dated 18Sep2022♀ only recently fixed/know of this issue!
This update is for when the TnG card is used to tap to pay...
In summary: how to make deductions from the card's balance even when it is linked to the eWallet.
Touch ‘n Go (TNG) is probably one of the most fragmented payment systems in the country... Agree! It is a scam card!
Once PayDirect is disabled, tapping your TNG card will only deduct from the card’s balance...ensure that the card has a sufficient balance at all times
In my case I separated eWallet & card...ie my partner uses the eWallet app in her phone while I've the cards (2 cards) linked to the app (without activating eWallet) in my phone - we carry one card each. She uses the eWallet (VEP RFID auto deduction) when crossing to JB & the card for purchases & parking fee.
I also remove the tag from old car and now facing the same issue as I've retain my plate number, but when I ask VEP office their reply is.No problem! I drive in with my family and my young kids frequently too!
I got the physical RFID pasted on my previous car and I had to remove it myself before I sold my car.
