I still prefer g8 due to the following:
- built in PD port (I prefer clean desk so a single cable to charge/display laptop is good although I would like a higher output)
- built in speakers (my desk not so big so I would appreciate not needing to put extra peripherals on the desk)
- external power supply (fanless means no coil whine issues although the power supply is humongous)
- back design (I prefer this design and the rgb circle)

one thing that puts me off is their port selections so I’m not sure if I want to get this or wait for the Philips evnia one.
Yeah same preferences, but I think built in speakers cmi anyway. Yeah the port selection is rubbish, where to find mini hdmi 2.1 in sg lol.

It’s a built in speakers after all but i prefer the benefit of not needing to switch audio output frequently cause when I wfh, I will toggle between my desktop and work laptop regularly so the built in speakers helps (compared to those coming directly from the laptop itself). If I really want solid sound then I’ll simply use headphone.

the sad thing is that it seems like for 2023 there won’t be other monitors with similar specs (with high pd & speakers) Liao, apart from Philips and MSI.

Yeah man, think Msi should be much cheaper than Samsung.

i mean when u enable and follow through the calibration steps.. is it that bad?

Firstly, ClearType is to render text in a way that makes them look clearer for certain types of pixel arrangement. Microsoft ClearType does not support the current OLED pixel arrangement and won't fix the issue.

I used ClearType on all monitors I had, the first time I got my old DW, I noticed the fringing was unfixable by ClearType and returned it, it took no more than a couple of minutes for me to notice.

It's honestly easy to tell because there is some rainbow effect glowing around the text, and perhaps more prevalent in some types of fonts and backgrounds.

These are from AW3423DW, IDK how obvious it is to others. At its current scale which is not even close to being called pixel peeing, do you see it?

These 2 are from a non-OLED panel that is only 1080p, and the left one is calibrated with ClearType.

You see why for ppl that already used ClearType throughout different systems, it's quite obvious.

Also, I am not saying if anyone should buy or not buy based on this, or whether the monitor is good or bad. Just pointing out the problem that others have been talking about.

Tbh, these images r also nothing compared to reality, where more details can be seen..

Used the 27M2V for almost a week, here is a quick summary:

Gaming
I play almost exclusively Dota, which doesn't really benefit from local dimming. The whole experience was sharp, colours are fine in SDR. Moving from 1440p to 2160p isn't noticeable unless I look out for it.

Work/Productivity
The high DPI is difficult for me because I use multiple screens of multiple resolutions (plugged into a laptop), and Outlook looks funky when doing that. I keep all scaling to 100% for my laptop, which is why it isn't the best experience.
That being said, I appreciate the extra windows I can now fit in smoothly.

I switch local dimming off because the movement of the mouse causes blooming, which is distracting

Movies
This is where the screen shines. HDR + Local Dimming is awesome, and I really enjoy the deeper blacks even compared to my VA panel (S3221QS). That being said, I sit away from my screen when watching shows, so the resolution isn't that noticeable.

Verdict

Depending on the games you play and the usage, you will get a different experience.

Mostly productivity and FPS/MOBAs, don't buy.
HDR games and movies, sure!
Do note I had some dead pixels - doesn't bother me, but it's there if I look for it.

So ask yourself whether will u zoom in when u look at a monitor or will u sit at a normal viewing distance.

If u the type that will scrutinise text close up, maybe might see fringing.

For me on my aw3423dwf, I go near also cant really notice. So it totally don't bother me at all.

I not defending my purchase just being honest.

The aw3423dwf definitely won't be my end game monitor because I want something at least 240hz oled ultrawide that is 34 inch, none in the market right now. Once there is, will ditch the dwf for it.

Many thanks for sharing the experience.

For the dead pixel do you not consider return and ask for replacement since Amazon can be quite flexible on this ?

Currently in reddit there is a poll on coil whine issue for aw3423dwf with 50% poll experienced the issue.

since over 50% would consider as significant high percentage, it serve as an alert for potential buyers in coming future.

Thanks for sharing. It's actually very obvious even from this picture set, and i'm sure as you pointed out, it's even more jarring in real life.

it doesn't bother me, so it's ok. furthermore no guarantee that the new set will be better, and I'd prefer to still continue using the monitor in the mean time.
