Can advise, my contract with starhub is ending this March and am tempted to switch to Singtel as been having problem with wi fi in our rooms. Our router is in the living room, bedrooms is blocked by walls, using google wi fi extenders which does not really help that much. Not that tech savvy so not really familiar with router brands but willing to do research and learn what is best for a faster internet in the house. Appreciate comments.

DO not consider Singtel because of the use of ONR. They also come with lousy wireless routers.

You should stay with Starhub but go with the better router. You need to post the floor plan with the location of the ONT and existing Google Wifi units so that people can recommend the setup. Do you have LAN port in the rooms?

If you would like to go with Starhub provided solution, usually 2 unit of Linksys MX4200 should be good enough for most users. But if the placement is not ideal, three units may be required.

i assume you are not using starhub tv?

the better solution is to stick with starhub, and get a better router. their "smart wifi" Linksys MX4200 is decent, but you can also look at other brands. you should be looking at coverage as well as speed.

hi all, attached my floor plan for my BTO here. About to start reno so would appreciate some advice on setting up home wifi system from you experts. Probably will take the StarHub 1gbps plan. Any advice on set up and why equipment to get? Thanks!

Have you done the renovation? Please indicate the LAN ports location in the rooms.

It would be good to have two LAN ports close to each other in the living room area where you can put in the main router.

Do you need Starhub TV+ Box?

1) No Starhub TV+ Box.
It will be good to go with nice Asus router like RT-AX82U or GT-AX6000 as the main router, then another one in the room as mesh node (eg: RT-AX55).

ONT -- living room LAN port 1 -- main router like RT-AX82U in the living room -- living room LAN port 2 -- Switch in the DB box (cheap TP-Link TL-SG105 will do) -- main bedroom LAN port -- mesh node like RT-AX55.

2) With Starhub TV+ Box
Then it is better to go with Starhub provided Linksys Velop MX4200 (two units).

ONT -- living room LAN port 1 -- main MX4200 in the living room -- living room LAN port 2 -- Switch in the DB box (cheap TP-Link TL-SG105 will do) -- main bedroom LAN port -- MX4200 mesh node

Main MX4200 -- Starhub TV+ Box
MX4200 Mesh node -- 2nd Starhub TV+ box if if need that second box

if the recontract period of offer overlaps next week's IT show, then wait till next week.

if not, then consider how he feels about the past 2 years service quality. then easier to stay or jump
(taking into consideration switching costs).

Yes. I told him to wait... No rush to recontract now since his contract end in late June. In fact. I find starhub is trying to lure easy customers to sign up a less attractive offer now.

He have been using starhub fibre since day 1 and quite lazy to look out for better offer. So I have to help him..

6 Jan I was at M1 shop. They offered 2 mths free only. My contract due to end in Mar so I waited.

Then someone posted he got 5 mths free. So I called up Starhub sales line 1630 on 30 Jan and got the 5 mths free too.

Note that the new contract starts when you re-contract. My old contract ending Mar was a slightly lower price $39.90. The new one was at $43.30. Not much difference so I just grab the 5 mths free offer.

You might want to check how much your brother is paying now. Also no harm calling 1630 to ask now. Then can compare to IT fair promo.

Not really true. It depend when the person recontract and whether there is any other offer during that time.
