Hi. Need advice. I stay in a 4 bedroom apartment. The DB box is in kitchen. Need WiFi in living room and master bedroom which is at the opp end of living room. I have Ax88u and a pair of XT8. Should I put the Ax88u in the DB box as router and Aimesh 1 XT8 in living room and the other in master bedroom? Or 1 of the XT8 is better in the DB box?

You can get full coverage with single router by placing it in a central location by using the existing patch panel for new flats.

If you want to connect more routers since you already bought them, you can get an unmanaged switch (less than $30) to connect to the ONT/ONR. This way you do not need to place a router at the service closet in your kitchen.

For ONR, the unmanaged switch will work but you need to set the main AImesh node to AP mode.

For ONT, the unmanaged switch before router idea will only work.

Very strange. Lately my XT8 node keep disconnecting from the main router. Don’t know why like that. I didn’t do anything at all but lately it just become unstable. It works after I restarted both routers.

I suspect the router might be faulty. Anyone can think of other reasons?

Try upgrade the FW to the latest version to see if that helps. If not, then try a different version.

In the M1 thread multiple users reported problems due to FW issues, their issues may not be the same as you. But the usual troubeshooting method is the same -- to try to upgrade the FW.

Are you using WIreless backhaul or Ethernet backhaul? If using wireless backhaul, is the node too far away from the main node? It could be there is some degradation of the mesh node in terms of wifi connection to the main node. It could also that you add something new between them (say a new furniture).

Wireless backhaul. I didn’t add anything. It was working perfectly for 2 years until suddenly got problem. Lol! My firmware is quite old because since it is working perfectly for 2 years, I never do any major firmware upgrade

Hi

Currently using Singtel ONT and AC86U. Plan to upgrade to wifi 6 and increase range with XT8 2pack using mesh wifi backhaul.

Does XT8 have Singtel VLAN profile so it works as main router just by connecting to Singtel ONT directly like on the AC86U?

Yes it does but since there's only 3 ports for XT8, you will only have 2 port remaining for wired connections.

My AiMesh, with AX6000 as main router and XT8, was doing fine till recently, the XT8s have been disconnected frequently and randomly. My device would attempt to connect to the AX6000 instead of the nearest node. The XT8s are backhaul wired connected.

It seems to be me that XT8s would “hibernate” when there is no active wireless connection. Reason being I’m only aware of the disconnection due to poor wireless performance when I started my online activities. When I check the Asus Router app, it indicates that the connection to the XT8s are down and my device is connected to the router which is a distance away.

I have power cycled the router and XT8s, reset them and re-setup. However my network continues to be plagued by this issue.

Any advice on this? Thanks.

Try this and see if helps. WPS reset all routers and re-confgure again.

Reset and re-setup my router and XT8s with the same outcome. All firmware are up to date. I'm not sure if there is some kind of eco features on my router/XT8s that turns the XT8s offline whenever there is no active wireless connection from my devices.
Hmmm.... That didn't seem to happen on my aimesh setup, though mine is on wireless backhaul. Maybe you can a feedback to Asus from the app itself or get both nodes replaced if it's still within warranty.

With my router and nodes updated to the latest firmware, I continue to experience the issue of the node dropping connection randomly. Read some posts on Reddit that scheduling a daily reboot seems to resolve the issue but it doesnt works for me.

I'm not sure if using Asuswrt-Merlin firmware works but I'm giving a try. I had some experience in using this firmware, but that was solely for my router many years ago. In the Aimesh setup, do I install the firmware on individual node, one after another after I have installed it on the router first?

Any advice on how best to install the firmware in the Aimesh setup without breaking anything? Thanks

I have the same issue, but on my XD6. I'm in the middle of discussion with ASUS sg to see if an exchange to another model can be made. Very frustrating issue.

Logically, I will update the node over wire then followed by the router. Since you might loss the internet connection while updating the router or problem connecting the node back to the router (main node) after the update. You do need to ensure both appliances are on the same firmware.

Personally I find Merlin firmware to be more stable than Asus‘s own firmware but not as fast (current) when it comes to new features.
