Anyway promo is just at m1 page. It’s not like the page is in Japanese or what. Really want me to feed you all the way to your mouth meh. Seriously?

Cannot read then not my problem Liao ☺️. Did I say now got EZ-Link? I say last time right?
You did mention " Last time still need to buy router to get the EZ-Link card. Now don’t even need."
Are you trying to hide the word "NOW"?
I understand English may be not your mother tongue. It's better accept humility than to deny.

Dear all

I received a letter from M1 about current promo for fibre broadband which comes with Capitaland Voucher. Then only I realised my contract has ended a few months liao, probably because the rate stays the same after the contract ends,

Am thinking now to recontract or just stay without contract. The recontract rate is about $5 cheaper per month. Appreciate any thoughts.

Why would you not for $5 savings a month x 24? Unless you want to be a Guinea pig for SIMBA’s upcoming fibre plans.

In the email on recontract offer, the letter says i can redeem the free router within 24 months at any m1 shop. Actually what will be the reasons for us to replace the current router now besides redeeming it then sell it away? Also, 2 years ago, I had also bought the Asus ZenWifi XD6S from m1 which didnt really help much in the reception in mbr. Should I try with the free TP-Link Archer AX72 or better to just stick with the free Asus router?

Since you are already using Asus ZenWiFi XD6S, no point to change to TP-Link Archer AX72. Just sell it away (around S$80 from Carousell) or keep it as a backup.

TP-Link Archer AX72 will be a good upgrade for those who are still using the old RT-AC1200G+ or RT-AC2600 in terms of wireless performance.

RT-AC1200G+ does not seem to have further support from Asus (last firmware: Version 3.0.0.4.382.52272, 15.1 MB, 2020/06/29)

RT-AC2600 does not seem to have further support from Asus (last firmware: Version 3.0.0.4.382.52516, 16.25 MB, 2021/03/09).

There are no support of RT-AC1200G+ for OpenWRT.

I tend to belive that you can run OpenWRT on RT-AC2600, by using RT-AC85P OpenWRT firmware (double amont of RAM of RT-AC85U/85P).

Once SIMBA launch, the price might drop further if they are able to shake up the BB market. But it might take awhile for SIMBA to become stable or be a force in the BB player

I am collecting some info about ISP issued free routers for Fibre Internet here.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/openwrt-router-firmware.5967482/page-18#post-149528916

1. As I have not used M1, I would like to get the help from the users here to confirm on M1 side. Thanks.

+++++++++++++++++++
Singtel issued free routers for Fibre Internet
2-wire 5012NV --> Pace A5520N --> Aztech DSL7003GRV(AC) --> Aztech DSL 7009GR(AC) --> Singtel AC Elite (AC1900) --> Singtel AC Plus (AC1200) --> SIngtel Mesh Router --> Airties Air 4960R -->Airties RT5703W (now)

Singtel ONR users may get mesh nodes like Singtel Mesh Extender and
Singtel AC Plus (AC1200) --> SIngtel Mesh Router --> Singtel Mesh Extender or Askey AP5100W WiFi Mesh (mesh node, not router) --> Singtel WI-FI 6 MESH AP5690W (not a router) or Airties RT5703W

Starhub issued free routers for Fibre Internet (D-Link models up to July 2017)
?? --> D-Link DIR-865L (2013-2014) --> D-Link DIR-850L --> D-Link DIR-868L and D-Link DIR-890L (for upgrade?) --> Linksys EA7500v2 --> Linksys EA8100 v1 --> Nokia Beacon 1 --> Nokia Beacon 2 (now)

M1 issued free routers for Fibre Internet (?)
RT-N15U --> RT-N56U --> RT-AC56S --> RT-AC68U (not free, for upgrade?) --> RT-AC1200G+ --> RT-AC2600 --> RT-AX55 or TP-Link Archer AX73 (short time) or Archer AX72 --> RT-AX3000P or TP-Link Archer AX72
++++++++++++++++++++

2. The older Asus routers from M1 are mostly supported by alternative FW except RT-AC1200G+, not the new ones though like RT-AX55 and RT-AX3000P (no Merlin support). TP-Link Archer AX72 and Archer AX73 are also unlikely to get alternative FW support.

For the older Asus routers which are no longer supported by Asus, you may choose to use the alternative FW and continue using them as a router or AP.

++++++++++++++++++++++
Asus RT-N15, RT-AC56S (similar to RT-AC56U) and RT-AC68U are supported by DD-WRT.
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Asus

Asus RT-N15, RT-AC56S (similar to RT-AC56u) and RT-AC68U are also supported by FreshTomato.
https://wiki.freshtomato.org/doku.php/hardware_compatibility

RT-N15U is also supported by OpenWRT up to version 19.07.2 but not recommended.
https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-n15

RT-N56U is supported by OpenWRT (but it is said 5GHz WiFi may have some stability issues)
https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-n56u

RT-AC56S (similar to RT-AC56U) is also partially suppoted by OpenWRT without 5GHz wireless.
https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-ac56u

RT-AC68U is a long life product and it is still supported by Asus official FW (latest FW: Version 3.0.0.4.386.51665, 98.78 MB, 2023/05/11) and Merlin alternative FW (386.12 stable version).

RT-AC68U is also partially supported by OpenWRT but no wireless (not even 2.4GHz).
https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-ac68u

RT-AC1200G+ is not supported by alternative FW.

RT-AC2600 should be supported by OpenWRT (needs confirmation)
by using RT-AC85P OpenWRT FW (with double RAM).

Okay! I have re-contracted my M1 1Gbps BB and XDel is going to deliver between 2pm to 4pm today.

So, this delivery guy from XDel will set it up for me or what? Not M1 guy? :unsure:

XDel is just a courier don’t think they can do any setup related task. If you recontract means everything is already setup, right? Recontract to higher speed also is just a trigger from M1 side.

The ports for connection should be exactly the same as before. So whatever you unplug from your old devices/ports just connect back the same way. Otherwise just follow the steps below it’s very straightforward.

1) Yellow fibre optic — one end connect to fibre termination point, one end connect to ONT.
2) LAN (ethernet) cable — one end connect to 1st LAN port on your ONT, one end connect to 1st LAN port on your router.
3) Telephone (RJ11) cable — one end connect to 1st telephone port on your ONT, one end connect to your home telephone.

ONT, router, home telephone all have their own power cable each so connect them as well.

ONT and home telephone is pretty much plug and play so no setup needed. For router some models may require you to download their app to setup but these days it’s also quite simple to do just follow the instructions on the (app) screen.

They only provide the internet service which means wall to ONT, and a free router. Setting up the router is not their problem.
I see!

Admin login to the router should be provided somewhere, right?

Okay. Let's wait! Almost 4pm and yet XDel hasn't showed up yet.... Haiz...

It will either be on a sticker below the router, or in the user manual depending on the model.
