hmm, a new wifi 7 router appeared on the tp-link's ISP routers page.
www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/
EB810v

BE22000 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 7 VoIP Router

  • 11520 Mbps (6 GHz, HE320) + 8640 Mbps (5 GHz, HE240) + 1376 Mbps (2.4 GHz).
  • 1× 10GE/SFP+ Combo WAN port, 1× 10GE LAN port, and 3× 2.5GE LAN ports
  • 1× USB Port
  • EasyMesh

Quite some of the routers listed here have the remote management capability and are usually bundled by service providers like Singtel (Singtel 10Gbps plan with Singtel ONR and TP-Link HB810)

Some users will avoid all of these routers.

HB810, EB810V:
Remote Management: TR-069 and TR-369 protocols

Singtel 10Gbps : TP-Link HB810 (Asus GT-AX11000 Pro initially, then moved to TP-Link HB810)
MR 10Gbps : Archer BE805 (Gamer 10Gbps) / Archer AXE300 (normal 10Gbps plan)

EB810V --> Starhub ??? (Archer AXE300 as an option initially --> this one)

Sigh! More conflicted than ever as to who to go with. Perhaps should wait for more wifi 7 routers to be available & see if ISPs change their bundled routers.

I managed to resolve the problem I was facing on my ONR, it turns out that all I need to do is to reset my ONR and set it to bridge, restart and walla, now everything works!

Am putting it here, so that others know what to do if they encounter the same issue as I do...
How did you get admin rights? Just curious. You got it from the hub trooper?

This router has no MLO?

It is just they have not published the technical spec yet.

I expect it to support MLO as well since this is the basic requirement for WiFi 7.

Reference from the other two WiFi 7 routers under same group of product targetting service providers. They all listed the following WiFi 7 features.
Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 320 MHz Bandwidth, 4K-QAM, Multi-RU

HB810 spec wth MLO support
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/hb810/#specifications

Archer BE805 spec -- with MLO support

Basically if you are still undecided, no need to rush to sign-up the 10Gbps plan.

Proper WiFi 7 routers with 6GHz support are still expensive as of now.

One important recommendation is not to decide which ISP to go with the bundled wireless router.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/singapore-isp-comparisons.6665380/

5) DO NOT USE the FREE BUNDLED ROUTER as the base for choosing ISPs. In general, it is better to buy your own router as the free router is not really good. Or in some case, buy the higher end router from the ISP if it is a good deal (eg: M1 GT-AX6000 is a superb deal). But anyway, this is just my personal opionion and many are still using the free router as the base for choosing ISPs becuase they may rely on ISP to provide the technical support (even though the technical support is in general not good).

True. Guess i can wait till wifi 8 is announced by which time wifi 7 routers would i guess be more common & more affordable 🤪

Haha. I believe later the ISPs may start to offer non frills 10Gbps plan with lower per month cost. Then you can use your own wireless router/AP.

On the other hand, it is okay to subscribe to 10Gbps if you have the desires to try it now. After all, it is kind of affordable to quite some users. The bundled wireless router is also not bad and can be used as an AP if you upgrade to a better wireless router/AP in the future.

You can also sell the bundled wireless router now to offset the subscription if you want to use your own wireless router/AP. For example, if you do not care much about 6GHz band, then the China version of WiFi 7 routers like the 10G capable Xiaomi 10000 can be a good alternative.

It is also perfectly fine if you keep using your good WiFi 6 router as an AP (especially those with 2.5G WAN) for your wireless devices, since you will mostly consume the bulk of 10G bandwidth with wired devices.

Example configurations:
XGS-PON ONT (or bridged ONR) -- 10G wired router -- 10G switch -- 10G/2.5G wired devices + 2.5G wireless AP

XGS-PON ONR -- 10G switch -- 10G/2.5G wired devices + 2.5G wireless AP

Hopefully, but even Wifi 6E also a bit expensive now imo. So if you aren't really rushing, and dont have many devices that actually support the newer standards, maybe can be 2 standards behind and still be fine.

Wifi 6 is a perfectly good middle ground for average users, enough speed for streaming most video services, downloading, gaming etc.

Honestly i do not think ISP will start non frills 10Gbps plan so fast as it is not launched yet and still on trial. May be the trial will be extended to Dec 2024 and may extend again and only launch in mid 2025. Must wait long long for sure.

Yes WiFi 6 is good enough.

But he was talking about waiting for WiFi 8 and that will take many years to come as well. ;-)

BTW, if Starhub takes out the bundled contents and only offer the all-in-one ONR (with wireless), then it can be considered as a no-frills plan.

Well all things considered, since the bundled TPLink Archer AXE300 is quite decent, i might not even need to think of replacing hardware that soon.

Just that i need another router as mesh unit in my bedroom so unless MR has a discount for a second AXE300, if not boh pian looks like will have to buy one off the shelf.

And I doubt the MR installer will set up for me as mesh so looks like need to roll up my sleeves. 😅

And since MR uses ONT in future if i need to replace router of my choice i can do so. And MR seems to have Dr Vijay’s stamp of approval so should be quite safe. Lol!

Just need to get the timing right. My m1 broadband expires mid 2024. My MBP isn’t equipped for 10 gbps so the plan is to get Mac Mini with M3 chip or Mac Studio with M3 chip and upgrade it for 10gbps.

Of course no one knows when either is out. Best case scenario its out before May then i simply get the new Mac Mini/Studio & wait till early May 2024 to sign up with MR.

But if neither machine is released by early May 2024 then im screwed. I don’t want to waste money & renew my 1 gbps M1 for another 2 years or even another 1 year.

But its also a waste if i switch to 10 gbps MR before my M3 Mac arrives. Bigger problem is because my MBP can’t support 10gbps, when MR installer comes, we can’t even test to make sure the speeds are close to 10gbps or not.

Sigh! First world problems!

Hmm, if you plan to buy a 10G capable Mac Mini M3 or Mac Studio, then I do not see an issue to go and subscribe to MR 10Gbps plan.

The MR installer should be able to carry out the test, just like Starhub/SingTel installer.
