1Gbps is sufficient for most use cases.

However, people may go to 10Gbps plan for different reasons.
1) tech savvy and want to try new things, it has become much more affordable now.
2) the contents and/or WiFi 7 router bundle from Starhub may make the 10Gbps plan cheaper than 1Gbps plan for Starhub users to who need the bundled contents or want to upgrade to WiFi 7 router.
3) have real needs for 10Gbps bandwidth -- only minorities among the users who subscribe to 10G plans.

Expand Point 2 a bit, even for MR users, it may be cost effective to go to 10Gbps compare to 1Gbps if the user can offload the router at S$600.

https://myrepublic.net/sg/10gbps/
MR HyperSpeed 10Gbps at $59.99/mth, Top up $50 for TP-Link Archer BE805 Wi-Fi 7 router (worth $799).

S$59.99 - S$(600-50)/24 = S$37.07 per month.

MR nofrills 1Gbps plan is at S$37.99 per month.
https://myrepublic.net/sg/broadband/1gbps/

So I will update the above to the following.

It may be hard to sell the free router as many ISP are offering WiFi 7 router now. Most users will just use the free router given by the ISP so do not need to pay extra for the router.

Ya i agree, doesn't matter the retail price is $600++ or even $700, I don't think many people will pay $600 for a wifi router in the 2nd hand market even if it's BNIB.

Consequently, you see many people lowballing those people trying to flip their routers at close to retail.🤣

It will be great that you are correct and the price goes further down. 🤣

I actually think it would go a bit down after a while as well, but maybe not initially.

Starhub is offering the second unit ot EB810v at S$360 (S$15 x 24), so called 50% OFF. So I tend to think the offload price will be between S$480 to S$600, initially more towards S$600 but later more towards S$480. I could be wrong though and the initial offload price would be already towards S$500.

There will be no Asus WiFI 7 routers less than S$800 as per the folloing post -- Asus RT-BE96U will be the lowest WiFi 7 router for a while.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/wifi-7-routers.6905228/page-12#post-151464558

So TP-Link will dominate the lower end side.

True.

But S$800 is quite a lot for a single router. We will soon see S$600 WiFi 7 triband router from Carousell.

TP-Link is selling Archer BE800 at S$799 now but may have discount later.

10Gbps plan bundle WiFi 7 routers -- real price will be below S$600 or lower from Carousell soon.

1) TP-Link HB810 (BE22000 triband) -- Singtel (free first unit, second unit at S$16.80 per month x 24 month from Singtel) --> claimed by Singtel to be worth S$806.4.
(report says it does not work well in router mode, Singtel uses XGS-PON ONR and configure HB810 as AP).

2) TP-Link EB810V (BE22000 triband) -- Starhub (free first unit, second unit at S$15 per month x 24 month from Starhub) --> worth S$720 (assume 50% discount)??

3) TP-Link Archer BE805 (BE19000 triband) -- MyRepublic (S$50 top-up), claimed by MR to be worth S$799.

I actually mention the following in the first post of the above WiFI 7 router thread.

Note: as of now in Feb 2024, other than the above three Telco bundled plan if you subscribe to their 10Gbps plan, I do not recommend buying any local version of WiFi 7 routers due to high cost and lack of compatible WiFi 7 clients.

The bleeding edge stuff is usually very very expensive, give the tech 2-3 years to mature and the mainstream stuff will eventually be more reasonably priced with decent radios in them.

Can see some parallel in the new ubiquiti u7 pro AP, the price is around $300 but the radios in them is only 2x2 which is a joke for the pro label. 🤣

They'll probably release something with 4x4 radio a year or 2 down the road at roughly the same price when tech mature a little and BOM cost comes down.

You are wrong in the case of Starhub, since it is offering the seond unit of EB810v at S$360. So people will buy the second unit for own use (mesh with first free EB810v) or sell at a profit.

As mentioned above, I tend to think the offload price of TP-Link EB810v to be between S$480 to S$600, initially more towards S$600 but later more towards S$480. I could be wrong though and the initial offload price would be already towards S$500.

U7 Pro AP pricing is US is actually very reasonable at US$189. But wireless gears are unfortunately more expensive in Singapore. Just treat it as a non-Pro model. 🤣

Maybe they will have U7 Enterprise with 4x4.

Actually triband WiFi 7 router can go down the cost very fast once China approves 6GHz-1 band for WiFi 7 use. But I am not sure whether China will approve that any time soon.

Xiaomi 10000 triband (China version WiFi 7 router) is only at RMB1599 (around S$300) and it can be converted to true WiFi 7 (with 6GHz band) with minor design changes and the cost will be less than S$400.

New 10Gbps plan from Singtel, using FTTR solution from Huawei.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/fibre-everywhere-fttr

I think it may have some niche use cases.
1) For people who want Singtel to wired up the room (especially true for those who do not have LAN ports in the rooms). Singtel mentions "no need to hack the wall" as one of the advantages.
2) For people who like the form factor of the main ONR and the slave device

But I do not think it is a good plan to go for most users.
1) Price is on the high side as it is tied to a 10G plan and start from S$109 per month (higher with more slave devices)
2) Main ONR has only 1G LAN port
3) Slave device has 2.5G LAN port which may be good enough
4) Slave devices will still need power. So this may not be as sleek as PoE Faceplate APs for those who like the small form factor per-room slave device.

Singtel Plan details.

For small home (HDB flat), the router provided by ISP should be able to do the job. There is no need to buy own router. You can still use WiFi 6 laptop with this WiFi 7 router and user will still get a bit better speed. 3 years later the story will change for sure.

I maybe wrong

The EB810v is made for SH. So can the 2nd unit works with other ISP and/or ONT/ONR?

Sure can. Probably with the exception of Singtel ONT users as I do not know whether it has Singtel VLAN profile or not. Please help to check if there are Singtel VLAN profiles or not. Thanks. For Singtel ONR or other ISP's ONT/ONR, there should be no issues.

Starhub Linksys EA7500v2 or EA8100v1 can also be used by other ISPs even though they have some Starhub customization to support Starhub TV+ Box. They even have Singtel VLAN profile so they can also work for Singtel ONT users.

Same for Nokia Beacon 1 (but nobody should use it as it is a junk grade router) and Nokia Beacon 2 and Linksys Atlas MX2001. These three may not work for SIngtel ONT users though. I know Linksys Atlas MX2001 (as well as Linksys Velop MX4200) will not work for SIngtel ONT users as Linksys Velop compatibe mesh solutions do not support Singtel VLAN. I tend to think Nokia Beacon 1/2 will not work either. For Singtel ONR or other ISP's ONT/ONR, there should be no issues.

On the other hand, I tend to agree with you the current TP-Link 10G capable routers will be good enough for average 10G users, same for the Starhub-previously-provided Nokia all-in-one XGS-PON ONR, as you are a happy user of the Nokia ONR.

Hmm, it is not available for consumers to direlty buy as it is only for ISPs. RIght now it is exclusive to Starhub in Singapore. But if later Starhub users are selling them off in Carousell, it should be safe to buy (with potential exceptions for Singtel ONT users).

But since you can get the second unit at S$360, you do not need to buy from outside.

@Mach3.2 and @Henry Ng

Wow, you are right and I am wrong. The initial offloading price is already down to S$450 to S$499 from Carousell.

1) S$450 for TP-Link EB810v BNIB
https://www.carousell.sg/p/tp-link-eb810v-aginet-wifi7-1290065638/

2) S$499 for TP-Link EB810v BNIB

MR users seems to have less listings for Archer BE805 as they do not have second unit offer.
1) $500 for Archer BE805 BNIB
