I have Singtel router RT5703W-D171, it has 1x USB3 behind?
I connect USB drive hopping to use it as network drive but there is no setting on the router web interface.
How do I setup this USB3?

If that is the case, then no use for the USB port, other than power up a USB Fan

The Singtel branded Arcadyan/Askey routers (Singtel AC Elite/AC1900, Singtel AC Plus and Singtel Mesh Router are from Arcadyan and RT5703W-D171 is from Askey) are customized by Singtel. If Singtel does not enable a feature, then the featuee is not available to the users.

Singtel issued router are in general not very good. Singtel issued mesh solution are in general lousy mesh solution. If you can, get your own router or mesh solution.

Indeed. This is the new GPON ONR. Maybe they run out of the two older Huawei ONR modles (or dumped the old stocks to Whizcomms).

I wonder if we can get the ASKEY original firmware before it customized to Singtel

It looks like ST's new plan will be using Huawei FTTR solution: https://www.huawei.com/en/huaweitech/inspiration-lab/fttr-solution

https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/fibre-everywhere-fttr
It's a new plan and solution to use the Huawei OptiXxstar.......

I think it may have some niche use cases.
1) For people who want Singtel to wired up the room (especially true for those who do not have LAN ports in the rooms). Singtel mentions "no need to hack the wall" as one of the advantages.
2) For people who like the form factor of the main ONR and the slave device

But I do not think it is a good plan to go for most users.
1) Price is on the high side as it is tied to a 10G plan and start from S$109 per month (higher with more slave devices)
2) Main ONR has only 1G LAN port
3) Slave device has 2.5G LAN port which may be good enough
4) Slave devices will still need power. So this may not be as sleek as PoE Faceplate APs for those who like the small form factor per-room slave device.

hi all, currently my wifi area in the bedroom is very bad, speedtest is <1mbps.

i am on singtel 1gb plan with miotv. ( ONT + ST wifi6 router )

to increase wifi strength in room areas, after research i think for a start maybe to go with mesh like deco x20. just enough to increase wifi for the area.

ONT>Router>Main Deco>Slave Deco (Fully Ethernet backhaul) Does the main deco need to be by the side of router?

previously lay cable from router to room2 to PC.
Can I do ONT>Router>>>>>Main Deco>>>wireless>>>Slave Deco
Main deco output lan cable to PC. Lan speed on PC be as good? is this setup ok?

If just change router, will increase wifi strength to the room area?
1. RT-AXE7800 ($400 wifi6e+better coverage?)
2. RT-AX82U V2 (~$300 better ones among the AX5400 range)
3. RT57, TUF AX3000/4200 (~$200)

are these routers compatible with ST ONT (black alu model) and mio tv?

many thanks!

Hi, anyone else can't ping/route back to own WAN IP?

I am having a very weird problem where I can't route back to my own WAN IP from LAN. No issue from other WAN, only from LAN cannot connect to WAN IP. Never had an issue until about 2 weeks back and I can't figure it out. Using the G-240G-E.

Where is the LAN port, in room 2 or room 3? You mention Room 2 but the picture seems to say Room 3.

Where is the Singtel TV Box?

1) Deco X20 is not worth buying.
2) I do not like RT-AXE7800 myself. Low end WiFI 6E triband router is usally worse than good dual band router in terms of coverage. GT-AX6000 or TUF-AX6000 will be better.
3) TUF-AX6000 is a better buy than RT-AX82U V2.
4) RT-AX57 is not worth buying at all as RT-AX3000P is the same at around S$80 BNIB from Carousell. But both will not be good for your use case if used as a single router.

Assume that your Singtel TV box is connected to the Singtel router now, then I think the following should work.

1) Main AImesh router -- Asus GT-AX6000 (around S$450 BNIB from Carousell) or TUF-AX6000 depending on your budget.

Singtel ONT -- Asus main router -- Singtel TV box

2) AImesh node (assume in Room 3 as in the picture)

Asus main router -- Ethernet backhaul -- Asus RT-AX3000P -- PC

Lan port, ONT, TV box, ST router all at top right corner of living room.

If can grab the GT-AX6000 on carousell at good price or TUF-AX4200 seems good for price point.

i am concern if just replace the router outside will be enough to have stronger wifi and speed in room 3 (furthest away). is it possible to hover around 500+ with those router?

or better to get a AX1800/3000 router ethernet backhaul with the ST router outside as AP in room3?

other than the asus routers mentioned, any tp-link router that can compare with those?

1) It is hard to predict wireless performance as it depends on many factors -- you have to try and see if you can achieve that kind of speed. I tend to think it is tough to get 500Mbps in the some areas of Room 3.

2) As a single router, TUF-AX4200 (mid-range WiFI 6 router) will not get the same wireless performance level as GT-AX6000 (high end WiFi 6 router). But TUF-AX4200 is a good value if you need local version. It is the minimum model I will recommend as a main router from Asus. If you do not mind getting China version, then TX-AX6000 (China version of TUF-AX6000) is of superb value (but no local warranty).

TUF-AX4200 (about S$229) in the living room + RT-AX3000P (about S$80 BNIB from Carousell) in Room 3 will be a good combination. Total cost is at about S$309. No need to get GT-AX6000 in that case.

ONT -- TUF-AX4200 main router -- Singtel TV box
TUF-AX4200 -- Ethernet cable -- Room 3 LAN ports -- RT-AX3000P

3) Yes, if there is a budget constraints, you can get TP-Link Archer AX72 (AX5400 rated, about S$80 BNIB from Carousell) as an AP in Room 3. It is one of the best value under S$100 router now. You can try to set up the SSID/Password of the Archer AX72 the same as your Singtel WiFi 6 router. This should usually work well even though the roaming performance may not be the best. In the rare case if it does not work well for some of your devices, then you have to use two different SSIDs.

ONT -- Singtel WiFi 6 router -- Singtel TV box
Singtel WiFI 6 router -- Ethernet cable -- Room 3 LAN ports -- Archer AX72 in AP mode.

4) You can get one unit of Archer AX72 first. Then you can carry out experiment to see how it goes. If Room 3 wireless performance is not as good, you can get one more unit and use EasyMesh. Total cost will be about S$160.
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/support/faq/3529/
https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/593722

ONT -- Archer AX72 main router -- Singtel TV box
Archer AX72 -- Ethernet cable -- Room 3 LAN ports -- Archer AX72 mesh node

5) In summary, if you have budget constraints, I will suggest going with Option 3 first and then Option 4. The wireless performance of Option 4 will be no worse than the more expensive Option 2. Option 2 wins in the Asus firmware feature and long term firmware support. Good thing about TUF-AX4200 is that it will be supported by OpenWRT as well.

What is the price quoted? For new users I do not recommend Singtel due to the use of ONR. And the price is usally more expensive than other ISPs and the bundled router is usually not good.

Reference: read the first and second posts to see if you still want to consider Singtel.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/singapore-isp-comparisons.6665380/

If you still want to contine with Singtel, please post your Floor plan wth detailed location of the FTP and then the LAN ports in the rooms if any. Do you plan to have Singtel TV Box?

Without LAN ports in the rooms, sometimes it becomes pretty difficult without increasing the budget significantly. Some floor plans may require two wireless router setup.

This is especially true that the two routers mentioned in your post are not very good wireless routers in any case even though Linksys E9450 could be a bit better.

The floor plan is tough for single router to cover effectively. You have to use at least two routers or maybe even three wireless routers depending on how your badly your DB box and Bath 2 block WiFi signal.

The following are for low budget solution of about S$300.

1) I will not recommend Singtel's plan or Singtel mesh solution in this case.

Potential plan to go -- M1 1Gbps with free Asus RT-AX3000P

Main router -- M1 ONT + Asus TUF-AX4200 in DB Box study area (about S$229) or better Asus router like TUF-AX6000 or GT-AX6000 depending on budget.
First mesh node -- Asus RT-AX3000P (free from M1)
Second mesh node -- Asus RT-AX3000P in master room (about S$80 from Carousell, BNIB).

2) If you really want to go with Singtel, get the cheapest plan you can get, put the free Singtel router aside as a backup and get Netgear Orbi RBK353 (about S$299 from Challenger) or better, depending on budget.

Main router -- Singtel ONR in DB Box study area
Main Mesh node in AP mode -- Netgear Orbi RBK353 router node in AP mode in study room
Mesh node 1 -- Netgear Orbi RBK353 satellite 1 in living room
Mesh node 2 -- Netgear Orbi RBK353 satellite 1 in master room

Looking at the following website, it seems to me Singtel is selling some routers at very expensive price. Totally not worth buying, even with PayLater 24 installment.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/premiums

1) Linksys E9450 -- S$13.24 x 24 = S$317.16 ( it is an okay router but the price is high)
2) Asus RT-AX86U -- S$19.36 x 24 = S$464.64 (this is a very good router but this price is too high. Shops are selling the better RT-AX86U Pro at lower price. You can also get GT-AX6000 BNIB from Carousell at around S$400 to S$450)
3) Google Nest WiFi + Point Wifi 5 -- S$22.42 x 24 = 538.08 (not working with Singtel ONT, not working well with Singtel ONR. Singtel should not even sell this one. DO NOT BUY!)
4) Netgear Orbi RBK752 -- S$33.62 x 24 = S$806.88 (this is a good mesh solution but Singtel pricing is not good)
5) Singtel WiFi 6 Mesh (Arcadyan) x 2 -- S$15.28 x 24 = S$366.72
6) Singtel WiFi 6 Mesh (Askey) x2 -- S$15.28 x 24 = S$366.72

Example:
Netgear Singapore is selling RBK762 at S$599

The living room area there console has a data point. I am thinking of using it for router point and TV data usage.
