With uselessbum. Yesterday, Singaporean are all migrants, said one PAP MP; today, we become citizen/non migrants???
With Blackwings. Ann has failed in her national identity job. Suspect this definition speech is in response to recent Senator Tom Cotton's statement/event.
What for she go play with sementics and definitions? This is not a HCL class. So can only be with her if she says we are not communists.

not this again. thought there're a number of threads on this nationality/ethnicity mix up

I always proudly tell PRCs ''我是新加坡人!!!!!!!''

All will reply the same and asked ''您是什么祖籍?''

Back to square one
'您是什么祖籍'? :ROFLMAO:

so easy, limpeh is cantonese, so 祖籍 is 南蛮

limpeh ancestors oredi existed long before that 姓毛的 was born, why shld I acknowledge a country that is younger than my grandfather (if he still alive today) as my ancestral home?

Singaporean are all migrants. So SG Chinese are hua qiao. Who she trying to kid?
Singaporean all migrants?

I am born and bred here and have no other motherland.

I am not a migrant.

And many Malay Singaporeans' forefathers were here in Singapore from day 1.

Further, "Chinese" used in Singapore refer to our race.

Peranakans and people of Taiwanese descent are also classified as Chinese Singaporeans and ethnically they have very weak to no link with China.

We are multi-racial and multi-cultural and should not use "Singaporeans" or "Chinese Singaporeans" too narrowly.

Only new citizens are considered migrants those born here are not. The Chinese State does what it thinks it needs to and find the laws, conventions and custom as an after thought. If it wants Chinese diaspora to exercise loyalty (defined by the PRC) to the Chinese state, then it comes with obligations too. That never happens. PRC did not generally consider emigrant Chinese to be its responsibility or subject to its rule. For example it showed little interest in the discrimination and violence suffered by overseas Chinese in many parts of South East Asia in the post-colonial period. Perhaps this will change but I suspect the driver for the lack of recognition for foreign citizenship is pure raison d'etat not any conceptual redefinition of 'Chineseness', the irritation that former PRC residents can potentially stash their cash/property and criticize the regime from a safe distance. :s13:

“Singapore unfortunately is one of the places in the world that has the highest degree of infiltration and influence by the Chinese Communist Party,” said Tom Cotton-U.S. Senator for Arkansas

How come he is not FICA ?? . And not a word from Vivian or the bulldog who was always first to bark +??
