Go on. Haha. See who will listen to u. 10gbps just started. Even imda will not support u whiners. As if money can solve everything.
May be so, but in addition to, in your words not mine, being a "whiner" I have the luxury of having plenty of time to keep "whining". Not in this forum (which is largely pointless other than for sharing info and experiences which is what I have been doing) but to the telcos and their regulators where it matters, at least collectively. Again, very sorry to disappoint you.

You can however happily choose to be shortchanged and do absolutely nothing about it but not me. I am very happy for you, if that is what you want.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I am the complaining type when I do not get what has been sold to me (outside the trial phase). Whether my complaints make any difference is another matter. I happen to believe that if sufficient numbers of customers complain both to the telco and to their regulator, they will make an impact.
Honestly i think you are absolutely right since the isp promised us earlier so i will expect them to do it nicely for us. I also complain loud loud.

for those on SH 5/10G plan, please feedback the issues using this GPT template

Dear StarHub,

I am writing to inquire about the performance of my UltraSpeed 10Gbps plan and the bundled TP-Link EB810V router.

Performance Discrepancy:

I have observed internet speeds that fall short of the advertised 10Gbps up/down, particularly during daytime hours. Speeds have dropped as low as 2.5Gbps. To ensure I am receiving the full bandwidth capabilities of Ultraspeed plan, I kindly request a thorough investigation into this matter.

EB810V Router Optimization:
  • Firmware Updates: My research suggests the EB810V router may not benefit from a regular firmware update schedule. Implementing a scheduled update process aligned with TP-Link's latest security patches and performance improvements could optimize the router's performance for all users.
  • Hardware RAM: My research suggests the EB810V utilizes the Qualcomm Network Pro 1220 chipset with 2GB of RAM, contradicting the information listed on the StarHub website, which specifies 1GB of RAM. The current firmware appears to be limited to utilizing 1GB of RAM too. While I understand cost considerations for future revisions, I strongly recommend maintaining the 2GB RAM configuration for the current EB810V model. Additionally, prioritizing a firmware update that addresses the full 2GB of RAM capacity will significantly enhance performance. This ensures a superior user experience for customers with multiple high-speed devices connecting to your Ultraspeed plan.
  • 10Gbps Combo Ports: EB810V boasts a 10Gbps(Ethernet) + 10Gbps combo port (Ethernet/SFP+). Investigating the possibility of a firmware update to enable the SFP+ functionality and allow users to reassign WAN and LAN capabilities on these ports could provide greater flexibility and future-proof the router for advanced network setups.
Thank you for your time and attention to these concerns. I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

I also email them to complain myself. I think it is fair that those having issue should complain or else SH may think their network is ok or very good.

Of course not- but I do expect to receive "practical" rated speed (say approx. 8.2DL and 7.3UL) at least 90% of the time when I test between 8pm and 12 midnight. This is what I get for the other 20 hours in the day from SH!

The sad reality as far as SH speeds are concerned is that getting even half that in the 8pm-12mn window is rare to never (at least for me). And if you have been following other users posts, they have been getting DL speeds substantially lower than mine in that 8pm-12mn window!

Btw, the 90% assurance level is what is used by the local telcos to report their achieved speeds.
Yes ISP usually use the 90% thing to tell us too. i think it is fair for us to complain since the speed is lousy. I feel like being cheated too as they put in Ads as 10 X the speed of 1Gbps when it is not the case for me. I am unhappy because they told me 10 x the speed. Why never tell me the truth? Users who are getting Lousy speed better complain la. But i am not sure whether such slow down will affect user real world internet usage or not especially those with just 1 or 2 internet devices.

The problem with this letter is you asked SH to investigate about the issue but SH like to use the words "we are stjll investigating the issue and we will need more time" and this is what their call back team like to say every time they called me. Dragging the case. Sad la.

They’ll probably tell u just as those on 1 gbps plan don’t get 1 gbps, don’t expect 10 gbps. Problem is, if you’re signed up for 10 gbps but barely getting 5 gbps, that’s like getting 500 mbps on a 1 gbps plan which is unacceptable.

Then of course the next excuse will be
- Speed test using different server yields different results at different times.
- International traffic confirm slower especially during peak period.
- They will blame your hardware eg your PC, your network card, your cables, etc for not being optimal for 10 gbps.
- They will blame your router especially if you are not using their standard issue one.

Yes those are their old tricks. They can not blame me because i have old speed test records showing that my computer actually can get 8.2Gbps and I never use own router. I actually also email IMDA again informing them it has been more than 2 months since i reported the issue and SH keep saying pending investigation as an excuse to drag the case and never care to provide a solution to resolve the issue. Just do not understand why they can not get such speed then why claim can get such speed?

Problem is lack of governance from the necessary government agencies. You cannot logically use “up to” unless such speeds can actually be reached.

I give you another example. Some companies have a loyalty program where you earn points for purchases or maybe introducing new customers. You can say earn UP TO 10000 points for example.

Not every one will get 10000 points. Depending on the T&C you probably need to spend a lot or refer many people but it IS possible to get 10000 points.

As far as internet speed is concerned we all know its impossible to hit 1 gbps, 5 gbps or 10 gbps. So selling it as “up to” 1 gbps or 5 gbps or 10 gbps is false advertising.

If based on a particular ISP’s tests, the fastest speed for 1 gbps plan is 820 mbps for example, then they can only say UP TO 820 mbps. Any other marketing jargon is basically false advertising.

Sadly neither CASE or Small Claims Tribunal & certainly not IMDA gives a sheet.

It is funny the assumption is it will never hit 10gbps. Everything has a alpha/beta phase. Just need to wait for the technology to become matured. Haha.

1 gbps is matured enough surely but no one hits 1 gbps even on wired connection using some super duper cat 8 cable. So its not an assumption.

I mean close to 10gbps. Not 10gbps to the dot. Common sense. Now people is complaining about getting 5gbps at night only.

Feel like we got short changed and not say technology not mature yet. Better do not sign up 10Gbps now. Wait and see.
