We can clearly see the differences in regulation settings. However, I do not know how to check the Tx power. For Broadcom based Asus router, there is a wl command to list the Tx power but wl command does not exist in TUF-6500 (Qualcomm IPQ5322 CPU based).

Hi everyone.
Currently using ax58u and would like to upgrade to another ASUS router. See that it’s much cheaper to order from China, even via Shopee? Would anyone be able to help with these questions?

1) would it be hard to configure the router from China? I can read Chinese but would prefer to have English interface as far as possible

2) any good models to recommend? Looking for something with many more years of software support and perhaps costing less than sgd300?

thanks in advance

1) Asus routers from China has English Web UI.

FYI, I have three Asus routers bought from Asus China. RT-AX86U (in use), TUF-6500 (newly bought, in use) and RT-AX82U (as a backup now). All three are good.

You can refer to Post #111 of this thread to see my quick review of TUF-6500 which shows some Web UI in English.

2) Models to recommend now based on your budget:
a) Asus TX-AX6000天选路由器, WiFi 6, mid-tier model, most cost effective model, with dual 2.5G ports, China model of TUF-AX6000, with OpenWRT support, good reviews from this forum and other places, rank one of the top WiFi 6 router in China by 知电小春哥.

b) Asus TUF-6500 China WiFi 7 (no 6GHz band): new mid-tier model with some FW issues, but have the advantage of having quad 2.5G LAN ports, no 3rd party FW support.

c) Asus RT-AX86U Pro WiFi 6 (AX5700 rated), high end model, single 2.5G LAN port, with more advanced FW features like VLAN and Guest Network Pro (not present in the above two models). With AsusWRT-Merlin support.

Among the three, Asus RT-AX86U Pro will probably be the best bet but it is of course with the highest cost (still within your budget). Asus TX-AX6000 is of course a good choice as well. For TUF-6500 there are some issues to be sorted out but I think it is still okay to buy.

Thanks! I noticed the newer routers are all super huge? Is there any model similar in size to the ax58u?

I always buy from official Asus China Taobao/Tmall flagship store.

Now RT-AX86U Pro is only at RMB 1059 plus shipping plus GST.

Yes.

For the first setup, there will be two pages with Chinese. After that you can switch to English and no need to read Chinese any more.

1) Tick the checkbox to say you are above 18 years old and then click Agree button.

2) In this page, change the language to English, by clicking the upper right corner (language selection)

3) From now on the UI will become English.

4) Next is to set up wireless. Take note of the IoT Network settings, which is only applicable to Asus WiFI 7 routers (no matter with or without 6GHz band).

5) Of course you can change the WiFi settings and other settings later after the inital setup.

All Asus routers have similar Web UI in the end.

And once configured to AP mode, majority of the non-wireless FW features will be gone.

Just received my RT-BE88U from tabao yesterday. It's been awhile since I last used an Asus router. I like the web UI .. it's better than my old Huawei router.
I used to do mesh with 2 huawei routers for coverage acorss my HDB 5 rooms. This 1 Asus router was sufficient to cover till the toilet in the master bedroom... the signal not as strong there but still sufficient to browse web and tiktok.

Indeed. Asus web UI is much better than the the web UI of consumer routers from Xiaomi (China version or global version), Huawei (China version or Global version), TP-Link China, H3C China and ZTE China.

I will also say that Asus router web UI is better than TP-Link and Linksys (local/global version) consumer routers.

What is the price conversion to SGD$ including the shipping cost? The Web GUI can select English yes? (I assume for ASUS world-wide English is a must include language option?)

I didnt calculate the total .. bought during the recent 618 sales. Should be just above SGD300 after taking into conideration GST and air flight charges ... cheaper if you do the regular by ship.

You can change the language to english for the WEB UI.. except for this one section, which is still in chinese:

New to Asus UI ... dunno what it does. I did manage to configure WireGuard... works flawlesly

You can just ignore NetEase UU Game Booster. I think it is not useful outside of China (but I may be wrong as I am not into gaming myself).

Replaced ASUS ET8 with an ET12 Pro, now cannot connect to MyRepublic Internet

Hello techheads,
My first time here, please be gentle.

My ASUS ET8 died after only a couple of years, maybe too much lizard **** collected in it. Anyway I went and got an ET12 replacement and set it up the same, but it doesn't recognise the connection from LAN1 on the ONT to the WAN port on the router.

Since it didn't connect I had to do a manual config, and I understand it's DHCP not PPPoE or Static). MyRepublic support is no help, they say contact Asus...

Any suggestions on what else to check / try?

Thanks people 🙏

it should be DHCP.
Have you tried turning off the ONT for a few minutes and wait for ET12 to get an IP?
It might take a few minutes the 1st time round.

Did you subscribe to Static IP?
