Just received my RT-BE88U from tabao yesterday. It's been awhile since I last used an Asus router. I like the web UI .. it's better than my old Huawei router.
I used to do mesh with 2 huawei routers for coverage acorss my HDB 5 rooms. This 1 Asus router was sufficient to cover till the toilet in the master bedroom... the signal not as strong there but still sufficient to browse web and tiktok.
U can change the wifi region to Australia to boost it further.

I didnt calculate the total .. bought during the recent 618 sales. Should be just above SGD300 after taking into conideration GST and air flight charges ... cheaper if you do the regular by ship.

You can change the language to english for the WEB UI.. except for this one section, which is still in chinese:

New to Asus UI ... dunno what it does. I did manage to configure WireGuard... works flawlesly

hi, which telco are you using with the RT-BE88U?
thinking if to get one and use with my singtel bb.
thanks.

Replaced ASUS ET8 with an ET12 Pro, now cannot connect to MyRepublic Internet

Hello techheads,
My first time here, please be gentle.

My ASUS ET8 died after only a couple of years, maybe too much lizard **** collected in it. Anyway I went and got an ET12 replacement and set it up the same, but it doesn't recognise the connection from LAN1 on the ONT to the WAN port on the router.

Since it didn't connect I had to do a manual config, and I understand it's DHCP not PPPoE or Static). MyRepublic support is no help, they say contact Asus...

Any suggestions on what else to check / try?

Thanks people 🙏
1. switch off your ONT

Are you using SingTel ONT or ONR?

If using default unbridged ONR, I tend to think it is a waste to go with such a powerful router like Asus RT-BE88U.

If using ONT or bridged ONR, go ahead.

using ONR direct connection to the current asus router.
saw review the Asus RT-BE88U is using WiFi 7 (802.11be) (5GHz) instead of the 6GHz maybe will wait and see if get 6Ghz type WiFi 7 router instead.

Indeed it is better to wait if you only need the wireless function.

RT-BE88U excels in its CPU (BCM4916 flagship CPU) and wired ports (10G/2.5G/1G ports). If you use it with Singtel ONR, it is kind of wasted if you just want to use its wireless function (no 6GHz support).

So far no issues using Asus TUF-6500 over the past two weeks.

I have tried to run it both in router mode and AP mode (behind pfSense firewall).

Currently running in router mode -- Double NAT, behind pfSense firewall.

Hi everyone, planning to change my bto to a aimesh set up, similar to scenario 2 here. Wondering what are the 2 preferred asus router to buy from TB (1 will be in the living room while the other in the study room to connect to PC and extend wifi)? 1gbps starhub connection and bought a TL-SG105E switch already.

It depends on your budget.

Examples:
Asus TX-AX6000 (TUF-AX6000) x 2
Asus RT-AX86U Pro + Asus RT-AX82U
Asus TUF-6500 + TUF-3600 (China WiFi 7 router, without 6GHz band)
Asus RT-BE88U + Asus TUF-6500 (China WiFi 7 router, without 6GHz band)

Hi,

Checking with the experts here if the below set up will work.
Starhub 10 Gbps fibre with Nokia ONT 10G port connecting to 2.5G port of Asus XT8.
Will I get no connectivity, 1G connectivity or 2.5G connectivity?

2.5G max. The 2.5G WAN of a ASUS XT8 becomes the bottleneck. That is such a waste.

You can see in from the photos I posted in the following thread how to I try to "spread" as much bandwidth as possible for a 5Gbps SH subscription to my pair of ET12 (also 2.5G WAN).

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/starhub-nokia-xs-2426x-a-10gb-port.7037140/post-152704140

Note that even though the photos feature an ONR instead of ONT, it's still the 10G output LAN port of the ONR/ONT that is connected to the rest of the devices so you would want to reduce the bottlenecks from the ONT onwards.

Your wired backhaul from the XT8 main node to the second XT8 unit will also be a bottleneck cos the LAN output from the XT8 main node will be 1G cos only the WAN of XT8 is 2.5G.

Thanks for your inputs. I saw in your post that you are using Starhub ONR. I actually opt for the ONT, hence not sure if the 10G port of the ONT will work at all if connected to the 2.5G port of Asus XT8. This will be my temp setup until I upgrade to Wifi7 Mesh. So I just want to check if the XT8 can at least support 1G from the 10G port of the ONT.

The answer is once again Yes the XT8 will support both 2.5G and 1G from the 10G LAN port of the ONT because 10Gbps Ethernet over RJ45 is supposed to be backward compatible with 5Gbps, 2.5Gbps, 1Gbps, 100Mbps.

Yes that is correct, only for Asus router sold in China.
 Eh...are we talking about the region settings under wireless settings ? I have it too in my local RT-AX86U. If I am not wrong, this should be a standard feature for ASUS routers regardless country origin.

The topic is the extra TX power boost for Australia region settings for Asus router sold in China, not just the availability of Australian region in the wireless settings (which is available for local version).
