There is something up with the routing for HK servers. Even MW3 when I play on HK server, ping is 200+ ms. WTF. If I use Wireguard and run HK server from ProtonVPN, ping is normal.

It even shows on my router Pingmap for MW3 servers. So it has to be bad routing. Starhub here.

I'm seeing 50+ms on M1 instead of the usual 39ms. I ran traceroutes from the 5 ISPs a few days ago and it's mostly 50+ms ping RTT. VQ is 200ms+ but it has been that way since a few months ago.

Google doesn't have a looking glass so can't really traceroute from their end, but from my end the latency bump happens inside their network.

Probably its something within their network or the return path from Google has slightly higher latency.

On VQ 1Gbps plan, this is the ping heatmap that I am getting for MW3 servers.

Netlink had to come to my condo as there was some issue with the cable running from the switchboard at basement. They replaced the cable as it was broken. Appears no one in my block are on 5gbps/10gbps or it would have been fixed long back. Cause it using a different terminal point for all of those that use Port 2 on the Netlinktrust terminal.

This was the signal from the terminal. I am a total n00b in network so can someone educate me if this is good or bad. Negative can only mean bad so I'm not sure. Henry, moral support lei.

I see slightly different numbers from different references but -15dBm will be considered pretty good already. -25dBm may be marginally acceptable.

One reference from Ubiquiti.

When laying out your fiber distribution network, the goal is to calculate all attenuation in each fiber run to ensure that when connecting the ONU on the customer’s premises it will receive a Rx value of -8 dBm to -28 dBm.

Thank you very much Shifu. I guess nothing to be worried about then. Starhub otw to activate my new ONT now. What a mess due to a broken fibre cable at my switchboard.

How is VQ compare to other telco from stability and availability point of view?

Another interesting things for power users who want to use SFP+ hands off to their own router without using the XGS-PON ONU, looks like VQ provides the possibility, for routers like UDM SE and TP-Link Archer GE900, as mentioned by the article.

No idea about their upcoming XGS-PON based plans.

As for their existing GPON based plans (1Gbps and 2.5Gbps), I can see two different camps from the VQ thread.
1) many users complain about the stability.
2) power users seem to stick to it and say typically no issues -- they usually use high end routers, subscribe to static IP and not using VQ's FreeDNS.

Wow VQ launched 3Gbps along with the usual 5Gbps and 10Gbps. Let's see if main ST, SH and M1 will follow up their game with 3Gbps too. I think this speed is just nice!

Unlikely Singtel/Starhub will follow as they are pushing their 5Gbps plans.

I tend to think, with XGS-PON, no much differences in terms of the cost to the ISPs with 3Gbps or 5Gbps or 10Gbps. Typically users can not consume 3Gbps anyway, other than carrying out SpeedTest.

No idea about M1, which is very quiet. Somehow that gives rise to the rumor that it is waiting to be acquired. I do hope that is not true, as healthy competition is good for consumers. It is better that M1 reamins independant than being acquired by Starhub.

Over competition is not good though -- I tend to think there are too many MVNO mobile providers now and more will go out of business (some of them already did). Last time there were too many Open Market Electricity retailers as well and quite some of them went out of business.

Ok thanks. Maybe can subscribe and try, if really suck, maybe subscribe 2nd line from Simba or m1 as redundant link.

thank you guys for reading this

just have a question

Currently i am using 1GBPS plan by ViewQwest , with mesh , 2 nodes of XT8 (1 in living room, the other in my room , Same Floor)

Question is

If i were to sign up 5GBPS plan by VQ, can i use back my mesh of XT8s? ( will the speed increase, if yes roughly how much should i expect?)

Purpose of keeping XT8, XT8 coverage is excellent, I am not sure about VQ new mesh , (eero Max 7 ) ,

Other questions will be , As i have 1 port to play with , what will be the best options for me if i want a good coverage mesh, stable, and quicker speed? (Bearing in mind, no pulling of cable (aesthetically not pleasing)

Also, what kind of upgrade will i need for my PC to fully utilise the 5GBPS, (currently Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller, link speed receive/transmit , 1000/1000 (mbps)

*currently taking about 600mbps on download speed, 450mbps on upload (PC on 2nd node, wired to my computer with CAT 8 cable)

XT8 can only utilize 2.5Gbps from 5Gbps. If you want to go for maximum speed, eero max 7 is your best choice.

If i not wrong, eero is higher grade and used mostly in home office / soho setup.

If you want to keep using your Asus ZenWiFi XT8 (using wireless backhaul), you may want to subscribe to the
VQ-III 3Gbps Home Broadband since Asus ZenWiFi XT8 has only one 2.5 WAN port. Its CPU is also pretty weark and may not even be a good choice for 2.5G plan. But I guess it would still be fine for you and you should see a bit higher Internet speed with your main node and mesh node.

eero Max 7 will support the 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps service. It is a so-so WiFi 7 router but I tend to think the wireless performance should still be better than Asus ZenWiFi XT8.

would that mean , if i take up the 3 GBPS VQ plan instead , that'll be a wise if i am keeping the XT8?

i am open to use eero max 7 if the review is good on its coverage!

for PC wise , how to maximise this 10gbps?
