Hi JB peeps - am thinking of trying to go into JB via Tuas Link one of these Friday afternoons (3-5pm ++) as I have a flexible work schedule on Friday afternoons. Is that wise ?

Then spent one day overnight, so i can do all my beauty stuff on Friday evening in JB, then hubby join next day morning.

I'm cautious that many Malaysians will return to JB on Friday evenings or end of day, what are Friday afternoons like ?

1 day before long weekend, it's should be ok still, some might take half day today to start, those that take full day today probably started their travel last night

at kluang, the roast meat stall just next to the butchery, how to beat that? in singapore we can only get chilled or frozen thawed meat
free range egg also cheaper in msia, no need to import from new zealand
fresher vegetables

well, JB is still comparably cheaper than let's say Jakarta or Batam, only those Yogyakarta and smaller towns is cheaper. But JB is so near to SG.

Cheapest wanton mee in JB probably 7-8 RM ~ 2.39SGD
Cheapest bakmi in Jakarta probably 30-35k IDR ~ 2.89 SGD
Cheapest wanton mee in Singapore probably 3.5 SGD

RON 95 in Malaysia 2.05 RM/litre ~ 0.61 SGD/litre
Pertamax Green in Indonesia 13.5k IDR/litre ~ 1.12 SGD/litre
RON 95 in Singapore is 2.9 SGD/litre

taman university alot of students, cheaper foods.
my fave ckt at taman johor 7RM :)

U forgot blood curds :ROFLMAO:

Sg cannot pump 95, don't compare that

Singapore's passport and currency is strong but it is only strong when they are used overseas.

Singapore's currency is weak AF when used domestically

I let those who tell their children; now don't study, next time want to go sell chicken rice is it? Run the rat race for me, while I enjoy the fruits from their sweat. But end up I have to eat chicken rice in JB because no one wants to sell chicken rice in Sg anymore.

Paper chasing was never my thing, but I need one more piece of paper to kill the king with a thousand paper cuts, for sgd50k, to me, a worth it price to pay for an attempt.

Of course you compare with our favourable xchange rate, if not what's the point of having a stronger currency? But just don't be vocal about it when you are a foreigner.

Go to Nordic countries and spend then u will feel like a Malaysian.

Invest in property is one of the ways to build wealth, but unless u have a freehold or 999 title, you are not building wealth in Sg, a hdb or condo is an option that expires to 0 value at the end of its 99 year lease. It is legally written into the document you sign and SERS is gaslighting, since it's up to the pap regime to dangle it in front of you for votes :poop:

Be angry about those "new record highs" HDB sale, the people coming up behind are catching that time bomb, I could care less, since I have none of my own that are coming up behind me. I'll just enjoy my popcorn watching them suffer.

For property in JB, u can't really build wealth in a place with "unlimited land" today u buy a new condo, soon new ones will pop up, by then who wants to buy an older development.

There is a way around it, some here have properties in the right place, which is anywhere with limited land and development capabilities, since there is a limited supply, economic theory says that that is good for profits.

Owning a depreciating asset and a liability is unfortunately one of the things u need for life in any country that didn't develop their public transport system, but for SGD 2k, my proton saga can be driven until the metal rusts away completely, so I die first before this car.

Last time before pasir gudang close down, I have 1 race car and 2 race bikes that I keep there. I'm very much looking forward to it reopening.

As for the cross border commute, try it during off peak times, it's a breeze. While living cross border is going against the norm, squeezing with the peak hour rush returns you back to square one. The whole idea is to go against the grain to live and expense in JB, but joining in on the commute rush effectively at least halves your value of living and expensing in JB.

I'm wired very differently; I like to spend time, since time is equal and finite for everyone, spending time is more baller than spending money, up to a certain extent and when I need time, I just buy it from other people.

Safety wise, I am aware that because I'm above avg in height and build, I'm in a privileged position to claim that even back alleys, where I have my Orh Chien is safe.

However, the same basic principle applies to everyone when we become foreigners. Apply that and anyone should be relatively ok.
🤩 👏 ago, very well analyzed and said.

More than 15 years ago, I sensed that jb will one day become like what Shenzhen is to Hongkong.

Mr Anwar is envisioning and putting it to work collaborating with sg: SEZ at medini.

one of my tenants is a businessman setting up EV car showroom in jb. He is from KL.

The digital lock technician confirmed that his company relocated from KL a year ago to jb. He shared that jb market now is way much bigger than KL and many KL companies are setting up branches in jb…

Jb realtors shared that many KL are moving to jb for work to fill the gap / brain drain to sg…

Many sg companies are relocating to jb factories and many opportunities have opened up in jb both for businesses and employees.

We witnessed jb bloomed from a sleepiness to today’s vibrancy. Thanks to sg open 🦵
we also witnessed the urbanization and flourishing of jb townships and the jb lifestyle.

You would be surprised that most patrons at Bukit indah businesses are MY working in sg and they have the spending power of sg, or more spending power than sg as they make S$ but spend in jb only.

The cheapest kopitiam noodles (not cafe) I've come across is 10 RM post covid. Where are these true JB kopitiam ?
Many kopitiam or shops at Bukit indah of tun aminah is charging Rm7
Or Rm8 per bowl of noodles…

For example at tuta:
Uncle koh wanton noodles
Lai kee fish balls kway teow
Ming corner kuik

JB has their own seniors living in JB mah.

But I'm talking about the seniors that are still self mobile. If it's those seniors that I see at my downstairs hawker center, either in wheelchair or with a helper, than currently, sg is better.
If sg doesn’t educate the masses about eating healthily with wholesome natural food and lots of veggies n fruits in additional to eating real meat for protein, it will be common sight and common fate of all of sg…

Can see those on wheelchairs are getting younger…

I once was horrific to sight an elderly man collected a bagful of medicine at polyclinic… not the plastic bag but his own big bag …

Thanks for sharing. Yes, seems like its more of a retiree plan than an investment plan.

Interesting about the cost of water and electricity, that sounds great for retirees. Do you drive or own a car ? I've looked into car rental online but seems like they are not that value for money while grab seems like a way better option (I'm thinking retirement, not tourist trip) . Maybe I'm looking at all the wrong places. haha

Agree with the serenity of big space and less crowd. It was a breath of fresh air to be eating out in spacious settings, and not kena cramp and crowded out in Singapore. Not everything can be measured monetarily. No opportunity explore fresh and cheap groceries yet. The closest I've come across is Aeon mall in Bukit Indah and I suspect its not really a bang for buck place when it comes to fresh veg and fruits based on the prices.
Go to Aeon Big grocer located in sutera mall… the veggies there is fresh and cheaper than most air con supermarkets…

Best mart wet market also has veggies fresh n cheaper

You should try the morning market at Bukit indah… only opens on Friday to Sunday morning from 6 am to 10 am

The mobile stalls are operating from Car park lots behind Yi Jia seafood at Bukit indah…

You can find interesting n cheaper options of veggies n fruits, seafood poultry and even roasted meats…

For 2nd link,
Cross border bus only tap when you board the bus (for Manjialink card)
After you clear custom, board any bus (don't need to tap)
After you clear JB custom, ask the driver before boarding (usually bus driver don't care, so don't need to tap)
Don't need to tap out.

Return to SG
Board any CW bus from Sutera (last bus quite early)/ Bukit Indah bus stop/ Perling Mall terminal. (tap when boarding)
After you clear JB custom, walk to the end to board any CW bus.
After you clear SG custom, walk to the far right and board CW bus to Tuas/ Boon Lay/ Jurong East, need to tap when boarding! If you don't have manjialink card, need to show your receipt when you pay when boarding at the JB side. Prepare before boarding, if you can't find any card or receipt, you need to pay to board the bus.

Return to SG
Sutera - last bus I think at 4.20pm. (usually turn a big round to TUTA)
Bukit indah bus stop, a bit messy, need to ask driver before boarding. (usually turn a big round in Bukit Indah)
Perling Mall terminal - just Q and board any bus. (so far take twice, both are direct to 2nd link, quite fast)

Perling Mall is a very small local mall, nothing much. There are Watson, MB, Giants etc. If I miss the bus timing from Sutera, I prefer grab to Perling Mall. If raining, no shelter from the mall to the terminal.

We shouldn't agree with each other so much, if not later will get called for this thread being a cult and everyone just agrees.
We are living testimony of jb as an avenue to lowering sg high cost of living…

I even bag my weekly laundry to do at jb commercial laundromat eventhough I have washing machines and dryers both in sg n jb houses. I value the time saving and the choice of running a few machines at the same time to do washing and drying and low for all, the chip chip cost $.

I always enjoy meeting and chatting with people at the laundromat…

In sg, it is so hard to start a conversation with any strangers…

Most sg are so “hostile”…

I didn't try Friday afternoon, i think will be fine.
Normally I travel on Sat afternoon. not many people.
I think Friday evening should be more crowded as people end work at 5pm onward.
Just stay near to a mall, you should be fine alone.

If you are looking to lease in jb to stay, the best is choose those condo that doesn’t allow airbnb.

Some break in were by tenants who leased to stay short term…

The 2 places that I know that don’t allow airbnb are leisure farm and horizon hills for landed …

As for condos, choose those designs that are theft free like 1medini which access card is activated to only access to your level…

Those who are ready and interested to find out more will come here. Those who aren't, won't be hanging around long. That's what the forums are for ma. I've known this thread many years back and only in recent times I'm hanging around here more. Back then, nothing made sense to me as i was in a different stage and phase of life, much younger too and have other priorities in life instead of getting excited knowing about the existence of 8 RM bowl of noodles in JB. :ROFLMAO:

Now getting older, maybe all these value for money , more bang for buck alternatives start to look very attractive.

Keep up the conversations I say !

Spontaneity in this case is relative to how much money you have :ROFLMAO:

A commercial flight is about an hour plus away, fly private and it's about 2-5hrs, depending on how expensive your private plane is, my PPL flight time takes about 5hrs

While flight is an hour away, all the airport travel, custom check in and waiting for plane to arrive and land will probably take up half a day right. JB when travel during off peak, gets one door to door in under 1-2 hours or less ? Maybe even faster for those with cars.

I was at Aeon Bukit Indah last weekend, an elderly couple asked me to help check some small prints of a packaging. They then started talking to me about how they can buy the item to cook a certain dish and should be very tasty.. etc. and while I didn't quite catch the accent I immediately know they are not Singaporeans. :ROFLMAO:

Agree that Sinkies can be very "hostile" but I think that's the consequences of living in a competitive environment. From competing grades at a young age to competing for seats in hawker centers in this land scarce island.. How not to be hostile.
