Yup, so far no rush to "upgrade" from my long-time out of contract 1Gbps fiber plan

Cos once I upgrade, a lot of other things need to upgrade too

Buy new ethernet card for my PC; buy new LAN cables; buy new mesh etc
Hi, may I know your monthly fee for out of contract 1gbps plan?
I just realise I pay like 40 bucks per month, which I think is ridiculous

Hi is this $55 package what you mentioned as the one offering ONT?
Because the $45 one on the left explicitly says it is an ONR
Yes, it's the one on the right that offers ONT plus a "free" router

Same - $40 for my out-of-contract 1Gbps

Most of the people would pay S$40.65 per month (S$39.90 per month last time, higher now due to GST increase) for out-of-contract Starhub 1Gbps.

Some users are lucky to get free upgrade to 1Gbps from 500Mbps (out of contract) a few years ago, at S$29.90 per month. They will pay S$30.46 per month now for Starhub 1Gbps (due to GST increase).

I am paying S$30.46 per month for Starhub 500Mbps (out of contract). Even though it sounds not as good as 1Gbps, but in reality it is more or less the same in terms of user experience for most of the people.

If you want to recontract, then there are a few options.

1) Starhub 2Gbps at S$39 per month --> this is the nature "upgrade" for Starhub users, with 1 FREE Linksys MX2 Mesh router (WiFi 6). Take note this is a dual 1Gbps plan. You can use it as two independent networks. Or you can use more powerful router with Dual WAN Load Balancing.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...nd-wifi-6---mx2_2000mbps-fibre-broadband.html

2) Starhub 5Gbps --> recommendation is to go with ONT+EB810v option at S$55.39 per month and not the S$45 per month plan with Nokia all-in-one ONR.

If you factor in the value of EB810v at S$360, this plan's effective price is at S$40.39 per month for 5Gbps.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/broadband/5gbps.html

3) Starhub 10Gbps, this only makes sense if you need EPL and other contents bundle. Again the recommendation is to go with ONT+EB810v option at S$69.95 per month option, and not the cheaper S$59.05 option with Nokia all-in-one ONR.

If you factor in the value of EB810v at S$360, this plan's effective price is at S$54.95 per month for 10Gbps and EPL.

Noob here, sadly discovered this thread too late :(

I was having the out of contract $40 for 1Gbps, and just recently recontracted to 5 Bbps with the Nokia ONR. I connect the Nokia to my living room router which is an ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 which is a WIFI 6 router with a 2.5G WAN port and a 2.5G LAN port which I connect my imac to.

So far didn't feel any difference at all compared to my old 1G plan. In fact my family complained the WIFI is unstable. :(

Would a WIFI 7 ASUS router make any difference? Thinking whether I should upgrade to a new router too.

Disable the WiFi for the Nokia ONR to see if that helps.

The best solution is to change Nokia ONR to Nokia ONT. It may take some time to convince Starhub to do that after signing-up but it is possible. Then you can upgrade to Asus WiFi 7 if you want to pay for it.

Thanks! Will try this.

For my wired connection, I guess I would need a router with both a 10G WAN and a 10G LAN port to tap the most speed out of the 5G connection. But my current router has 2.5G WAN and 2.5G LAn port also don't feel any difference. Wondering if it is worth it to get a 10Gbps router.

Saw Asus BE6500 <$200 at lazada. Could it be a good AP to pair w ONR?

Yes, Asus TUF-BE6500 is at RMB779 from Asus China (eg: from Asus China official Taobao shop). You need to pay for shipment and GST though.
https://www.asus.com.cn/store/gallery-476.html

But there are cheaper options to go with Nokia ONR to function as wireless AP, like Xiaomi BE6500 (non-Pro) at RMB 499, ZTE BE7200 Pro+ at RMB 599, etc.

I have both TUF-BE6500 and ZTE BE7200 Pro+. The ZTE has a bit better wireless coverage and performance than Asus TUF-BE6500.

More options of China WiFi 7 routers.

Asus ones have (English and Chinese), the others do not have (only Chinese).

But even those with Chinese UI, it is quite easy to set up using Google Translate of the Web UI.
I've been checking the back of my trusty ax86u and found the green port labelled 2.5G. I guess that is a good pair with the ultraspeed onr

Yes, if you want to limit to 2.5Gbps.

If you do not want to be limited to 2.5Gbps, get the EB810v from Starhub. That is the cheapest option to get a 10G true WiFi 7 router with 6GHz band, for Starhub users.
