Thanks for the price list. I have bookmark it in case going to upgrade my current RT-AX57 to something better.

The price is just for reference. I am not good at finding lobangs -- so you may want to check other places as well for better deals (eg: Lazada, Shopee, Qoo10, Carousell, Courts, etc).

No problem. Your list helps provide a good price reference of routers for different tiers.

I usually not recommend RT-AX53U as you can get RT-AX55 at cheaper price. But it seems to be supported by OpenWRT. So if people are interested in OpenWRT, it may be okay to buy. On the other hand, TUF-AX4200 has snapshot release now so it may be fully supported in the next release.

OpenWRT support
RT-AX53U and RT-AX1800: officially supported since version 22.03.

RT-AX54HP (it seems to be similar to RT-AX1800HP): snapshot release
TUF-AX4200: snapshot release

GT-AX6000 EVA special edition -- RMB1989

Hi posting my issue here so hopefully I can get some help. I have been using ASUS RT-AX56U for about 2 years with singtel ONT (1 gbps plan). No issues. Suddenly today the router just didn’t work with a red light. At first I thought it’s a singtel ONT issue but when I dug out my PACE (A5520N) old old router, it actually worked. When I brought it to the asus service centre, they thought there may be an issue and exchanged one for me. When I got home, it’s still the same issue. Anyway the whole of today I was wfh using my mobile hotspot  this asus router has served me well for the last 2 years so I really don’t know what’s the issue.

1. Factory reset the RT-AX56U using the Hard Factory Reset method (two methods) and then set up Singtel VLAN to see if it works or not.

Asus router Hard Factory Reset methods:
https://www.asus.com/sg/support/faq/1039077/
https://www.asus.com/sg/support/faq/1039078/

Asus router Singtel VLAN setup:
https://www.asus.com/sg/support/faq/1044897/

2. If it still does not work, I suspect the router is broken.

If still under warranty, contact Asus SIngapore for replacement. If not, buy a new router since RT-AX56U is anyway EOLed by Asus (no more security updates).

Following the instructions for the VLAN setup but I do not see a WAN port option for step 3

Just want to alert the users of Asus router that there is a security update which can be important to prevent bricking of Asus routers by malware.

You may want to upgrade the FW of your Asus router.

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...400-rt-ax5400-and-tuf-ax4200.6315347/page-174
Asus router malware issue has been reported.
Better to disable AIcloud for now (I am not using this feature myself) and check for Asus FW updates.

I have upgraded my Asus RT-AX86U running Asus Merlin FW.

From here:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/asus-wifi-7-and-wifi-6e-routers.6952409/page-32

Thanks for the heads-up. This was also mentioned by another forum member whose RT-AX86U was damaged by the malware.

Better to disable AIcloud (I am not using this feature myself) and check for Asus FW updates.

Asus has not released the FW fix for RT-AX86U yet. Merlin has the fixed FW released for Asus WiFi 6 router supported by Merlin, including RT-AX86U. My RT-AX86U is running as an AP after OpenWRT router. But I will upgrade to new Merlin FW over the weekend.

- CHANGED: VPN killswitch will now only be active if the
VPN client itself is enabled. If you stop/start
the client yourself over SSH, you need to also
update the enabled/disabled nvram setting.
- FIXED: Security issues in AiCloud (backports from Asus)
- FIXED: CVE-2024-2511, CVE-2024-4741, CVE-2024-5535 &
Implicit rejection for RSA PKCS#1 in openssl
(backport from Ubuntu by RSDNTWK)

Models with unidentified upload traffic mentioned in SNB Forums reports so far:
RT-AX86U
RT-AX88U
GT-AXE11000

Models with damaged radios after reset mentioned in SNB Forum reports so far:
RT-AC86U
RT-AX56U
RT-AX82U
RT-AX86U
RT-AX86S
TUF-AX5400

Quick check:
New FW has been released for RT-AX56U, RT-AX58U, RT-AX3000, TUF-AX3000, TUF-AX4200, RT-AX5400, RT-AX82U, TUF-AX5400, TUF-AX6000, RT-AX88U, GT-AX6000, RT-AX86U Pro, RT-AX92U, GT-AX11000, RT-AXE7800, GT-AXE11000 and GT-AXE16000, but not RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S (strange). Even the supposedly RT-AC86U has got the FW updates.

RT-AX89X also does not seem to get the FW updates --> not so sure if it is affected or not.

Asus ZenWiFi XT8 (different FW for HW v1.0 and v2.0), ZenWiFi XT12 Pro, ZenWiFI Et12 Pro and ROG GT6 have also got the FW updates.

Interestingly the lower end RT-AX53U, RT-AX55, RT-AX57 and RT-AX3000P also have the same type of FW updates but I do not think they support AIcloud.

The FW update version info will mention the following. The updates were released in Nov 2024.
1. Strengthened input validation and data processing workflows to further protect information security.
2. Enhanced AiCloud password protection mechanisms, safeguarding against unauthorized access attempts.
3. Enhanced device security through improved buffer handling in connection features.
4. Refined data handling processes, ensuring secure and accurate information management.
5. Enhanced file access control mechanisms, promoting a more secure operating environment.
6. Strengthened certificate protection, providing enhanced data security.

Asus ZenWiFi XD4/XD4S, XD5 and XD6 have a bit different FW update info, as they do not support AIcloud. So they are probably not affected by the malware. The updates for these models were done in Oct 2024.
1. Optimized memory management mechanisms, improving system efficiency and stability.
2. Strengthened input validation and data processing workflows, further protecting your information security.
3. Improved web rendering engine, enhancing browsing experience and security.
4. Enhanced security of system command processing to guard against potential malicious operations.
5. Perfected JavaScript-related security mechanisms, offering a more secure web interaction environment.

Important FW updates for Asus RT-AX55 users.

We recommend updating to this firmware version and performing a factory reset to ensure all the latest security enhancements are properly applied.

-Improved login password policy with a new minimum requirement of 10 characters, strengthening overall access security.
-Reinforced communication protocols between the mobile app and the router firmware to ensure more secure interactions.
-Optimized system stability for more consistent and reliable performance.
-Enhanced validation during parameter transmission to improve configuration integrity.
-Optimized routing stability under specific network conditions.
-Implemented security improvements for Dropbear.

In general I will recommend users to upgrade if they are still using the routers in this thread as the main router. They should still be fine as an AP or AImesh mesh node though.

1. For those looking at alternative FW, Asus RT-AX58U v1 and V2, TUF-AX3000 V1 and V2 are supported by official Merlin or gnuton fork.

1) Asus Merlin FW support: (RT-AX56U is no longer supported due to EOL).
https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/

Last update: 05-Jul-2025.
ModelStableBeta
RT-AX58U3004.388.9_2

2) gnuton support
https://github.com/gnuton/asuswrt-merlin.ng

3004.388.x firmware downloads: stable
2. OpenWRT support
https://openwrt.org/toh/start

RT-AX53U
RT-AX1800U
