it also depends on your end devices : non wifi 6/ ax will be lower say 400 or something with interference

as for the ax58u settings, under wireless,

try setting to

- Enable Smart Connect [ Off ]
- Wireless mode [Auto ]
- Wifi 6 [ Enable
- Channel Bandwidth [ 80 Mhz]
- Control channel, auto

under professional settings :

- Multicast Rate(Mbps) -- Auto
- Enable TX Bursting -- Disable
- Optimize AMPDU aggregation -- Enable
- Modulation Scheme -- Up to MCS 11 (NitroQAM/1024-QAM)
- Airtime Fairness -- disable
- Multi-User MIMO -- Enable
- OFDMA/802.11ax MU-MIMO -- DL/UL OFDMA + MU-MIMO
- Tx power adjustment -- Good

and do note down what was your setting prior

Hello experts, may I check what’s the optimal wireless setting for ax58u to achieve high throughput as I’m only able to achieve 200mbps in my room which is only one wall away from the router using a combination of wifi 5/6 devices.

I have tried changing the channels around and even those in dfs which are free from other ap are giving me similar result. I have also ascertain it’s not a wired issue as I’m able to achieve over 900mbps over ethernet cable.

Qos is switched off while ai protection and traffic analyser is turned on if it matters.

TIA for the assistance!

Thanks for the reply. I am noticing a very weird issue. When I’m very near the router, the wifi 6 device will be slightly though almost neglible faster than the wifi 5 device. However, as long as there’s some interference (walls or distance), the wifi 6 devices are consistently way slower than the wifi 5 device.

wifi 6 devices: iPhone 13/ iPad Air 4
Wifi 5 device: iPad Air 3

Also pardon my ignorance, is there any reason why I should set the power at good instead of the highest setting to achieve higher speed?

if at performance you have interference then might as well drop to good and test ?

theres nothing as a one size fit all, but fits most of the problems and slowly tweak

its like 2 people having conversation, using shouting, and if theres more groups of idiots join in the conversation, you reckon the original [ 2 person ] can "hear " what the other is saying ?

same thing, its all about getting [ performance / stability/ signal ] to a balance, some areas, like condos or landed, can get away with high performance 25dbm signal or aka asus performance levels

but most folks, in hdb , are with very , very low partition walls

e.g your neighbor's wifi, if theres 4 to 5 out of 6 on signal, for 5ghz, its very plausible theres even more interference in terms of wireless around your asus router

the other variables,

include putting your router into the Shelf, or near mirror / glass and that will chop the signal equally worse

Hmm okay thank you for the detailed explanation, I will try to tweak the settings one by one to try out which works best for me.

Regarding the interference with neighbour wifi, if I am the only one on the dfs channel, will putting it to performance mode cause interference with other wifi on other channels?

I will suggest use the default wireless settings and then focus on placement first.

Where do you place the router?

Since you have checked the wired performance, next step should be close range performance. You should get greater than 700Mbps or even higher for your wifi 6 devices.

After that you can debug the far range wireless performance. You may want to post your floor plan as well. "One wall away" is just too simple to describe the placement.

After you sort out the placement issue, then you can tune the wireless settings further.

My floor plan is similar to this except the store as drawn: https:// imgur.com /a/Jv7yGqI (I left a space in between as I don’t have permission to post url)

The router is placed on top of the tv console beside the store as shown in the floor plan. I am able to get low to mid 700 mbps using both iPhone 13 and pc with ax201 at very close range (80mhz). I have no issues with the speed in the living room. But the speed in the 3 bedrooms is slightly on the lower side, about 100-200 plus mbps. Somehow my iPad Air 3 (wifi 5) is able to achieve about 300-400mbps in bedroom 2 which is significantly faster than the newer wifi 6 devices.

I just check using the Asus app and both the iPad and the iPhone have similar dbm (+-2/3) but the link speed for the iPad is usually higher.

Is it possible that the wifi chip in the iPad is higher powered than the iPhone?

To check whether the ipad is higher powered than iphone, or whether wifi 6 is causing your issues in the rooms, you can login into ax58u and turn off wifi 6. Then test wifi 5 in the rooms for the ipad/iphone.
I am still getting lower speed on the iPhone as compared to the iPad after turning off ax mode, while turning on ax increases the speed slightly for the iPhone. Does this mean that the iPad antenna is higher powered?

Larger physical size of iPad means Apple can fit bigger antennas inside the chassis.
For your reference, WiFi router antennas ( bigger dbi number = higher gain )

RT-AX53U is the lowest end Asus AX router offering now. It does not support AIMesh and cost around S$129 from Asus. So it is totally not worth buying as of now.

Might need to update to latest firmware version to get the AiMesh function.

To replace your ac68u ? I think won't see big difference unless you go higher end.
But it's still okay if limited by budget
no for aimesh node not main router..

my main router still ax88

Hi Guys, planning to buy an AX3000 TUF v2 to setup AiMesh with my AX88 from M1. If I get a China version, is there any problem setting it up as mesh? Or region won't matter, and the setup is the same?

There is no issue using the China version of Asus router if you do not use Aimesh. But for Aimesh, I am not so sure. There are conflicting reports on the internet of using AImesh with different region. So it is better to buy local version if you want to make sure that AImesh works for you.

Get a local set for the warranty, a piece of mind.

Asus Singapore is now selling RT-AX58U V2 instead of V1. The performance should be the same.

However, Merlin FW dows not support V2. So you may want to buy V1 if V1 is still available.
