Yeah, either the consumer or the driver will have to bear the cost in the form of higher fares or lower incentives. It will most probably be both.
thought fares are fixed?
when i book $10, the driver cannot later ask me for $2 extra

Yes, but the increase will be factored into the fare calculation. So your fixed fare will go up.
but why must fares go up? there's always demand for phv even if fares went down
so i don't see why must fares go up just because drivers need to contribute cpf
not like cpf is a deduction, cpf is still their money!

There's the employees' contribution portion of CPF, and there's the employers' contribution. The employees' contribution will come out of their earnings, but the platform operators will have to pay out of their pockets for the employers' portion. I.e. 20% of your gross wage comes from you, an additional 17% is from your employer.

Platform operators have to contribute the 17% too.

perhaps grab will increase by 17% but i don't think it'll be fair for fares to increase 37%, then the phv will earn 20% x 2

It shouldn't increase by 37% since 20% should rightfully come from the driver's earnings.

The 17% portion will result in an increase in operating cost to the platform operators. But I don't think it'll increase by 17%, not every driver will opt for the CPF contributions. Though the operators will definitely take the chance to hike rates.

By law no?? Then what's the Platform Workers Act about?? On paper platform operator needs to pay 17%.. of course we can't argue how they come up with the 17%..
Think you can ignore this guy, earlier already question where he pull his facts/information from already but guess no reply :s13:

Someone already posted the information on the platform operator portion from CPF website.

Drivers and riders will then have to calculate whether the compensation from doing grab still makes sense then.

I believe it is detrimental for young ppl to do grab as it doesnt help them develop any valuable skills.
They just make it more difficult to get incentive this week

In short is making them work even harder for same incentive
