There was an existing thread on Macbook Pro M4 here but it disappeared a while back. So creating one for consolidated discussion.

I been using a macbook pro 2017 for office and home usage. Recently the lack of support for latest MacOS and overall slowness prompted me to order the 14" M4 Pro today :)

Whoever else have questions or chit chat on m4 mbp, feel free to use this thread.

Do you mean 2024 rather than 2014? As in thread title

I am using 2024 space black Apple MacBook Pro m4 base configurations. Got it with education discount.

not only is it beautiful. sleek, fast with no lags... the battery life is amazing.

I've used FaceID on Iphone, and IMO this is the best Apple user-focused hardware tech ever.

However, FaceID never came to Macbooks and Mac OS. And this is something to point out as a deficiency of Macbooks & Mac OS.

As for fingerprints, they are not reliable because hands can get wrinkled and damaged due to detergent or handyman work, or worse injured. You're million times more likely to damage your fingerprints than your face.

Plus Apple forces you to use TouchID only on APPLE KEYBOARDS.

Isn't this a fail?

Windows laptop now have infrared face login recognition + fingerprint and NO NOTCH.

After using FaceID on Iphone and Face IR on Windows, it is basically very difficult for me to go back to the usual login methods. I have FaceIR login for both Win 11 laptop and desktop PC right now.

Apple style is they may not be the first but they "will be the best" kind ma.

They always drag their feet on stuff, but not like any amount of noise will make them change faster.

So just have to accept if you want their products.

Next redesign of Macbook is M5 Macbook in 2026.
That's another min 2 year wait using Wintel.
As usual, Apple force me to wait again.

I waited till M4 Ipad Pro to hoot my first ever OLED Ipad.

But for those who are mobile warriors, the bug-free verylow-battery-drain sleep + instant wake features for Apple Silicon are more important and cannot be found elsewhere. Qualcomm Snapdragon X laptops have been reported to have frequent buggy sleep even though they are capable of verylow-battery-drain sleep + instant wake.

Apple didn't force you to wait. Apple always welcome you to just buy now.

Also, there's no guarantee that the redesign will incorporate what you want.

Or if it does, will it take away something that you want and already exist.

So it's more accurate and more important to just ask yourself whether considering all the pros and cons of waiting with current setup or buying a mac without what you want, which you value more.

Buy Al Dente Pro app to customise the max charge on AC power to 80%.
IOS already has customised max charging. Maybe Apple will bring this feature to Mac OS one day.
