Singtel NTUC offer is also worth taking a look for existing Singtel customers.

Which model of the ONR?

At the very least, the PON should be lighted:

I believe this is normal.

You were using an ONT, so they have configured this ZTE ZXHN F620 ONR in ONT mode for you, only LAN 1 is working and not the other LAN ports (LAN2/LAN3/LAN4). Since it is no longer an ONR and the ONR itself has no internet access, so the INTERNET LED is OFF.

This has been reported before. It seems to me Singtel has run out of the old ZTE ONT for some time and now they use the ZTE ZXHN F620 ONR configured in ONT mode for ONT replacement.

Reference: if the ZTE ZXHN F620 ONR is in ONR mode, then the internet light should be ON.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont/zte-zxhn-f620

You can carry out an experiment to connect a PC to LAN 2 and it will not have internet access if the F620 is in ONT mode. The PC will have internet access if F620 ONR is configured in ONR mode.

I went down to waterway point today to downgrade my Singtel TV plan since i seldom watch now but still need the downsized chinese package for my parents. Also took the opportunity to try to recontract my 1gbps fibre via ONT which i have been paying $44 per month since the contract lapsed a few years ago. The counter lady told me they are stopping ONT recontract and i will automatically be “upgraded” to ONR if i recontract.. As i am still using my Asus AX86U as the router, i declined to recontract. I wonder if i will have better luck calling in…
I cannot do without the Singtel TV because of my parents but the thing stopping me now from changing is the singnet email and all my things the email is linked to since a gazillion years ago….

Was attended by the store manager at Tampines a few weeks back as i needed to handle the ownership transfer of my parents' Singtel account.

I spoke with him regarding the renewal of contract for 1Gbps ONT plan - he confirmed that Singtel will no longer handle 1Gbps ONT recontracts, you will be "pushed" to take the 2Gbps plan instead (ONR).

I also have the @SingNet email - but have already started to move off to gmail.

Just signed up M1 fiber and will start to port over my digital voice line over, eventually terminating Singnet after more than 20 years.

Sad they insist on pushing out ONR instead of offering ONT.

Just feel creeped out how much control their Singtel "app" can control your internet access.

Interesting development with regard to ONT users who want to recontract the legacy SingTel 1Gbps plan to retain the ONT setup.

When I checked with SingTel Jurong Point Shop back in early August 2024, they still allowed recontract of legacy SingTel 1Gbps plan for ONT users. At that time I needed to talk to the counter which was handling the retention (which happened to be the SingTel TV counter at that time). Or you could call 1688 and talked to the retention department in order to retain the legacy 1Gbps plan and the ONT setup.

They offered me S$39.90 per month recontract price for 1Gbps (or S$39.95 per month if going for 2Gbps with ONR). Prior to that they sent SMS offer for S$42.90 per month "upgrade" to 2.5Gbps plan with ONR.

In the end, I chose to go with the 5Gbps plan at S$49.90 per month (now cheaper at S$46.90 per month for recontract users). Of course no more ONT and I was living with unbridged ZTE F8648P XGS-PON ONR for more than two months, before I managed to bridge the ONR.

How was your experience during the 2 months plus period on unbridged ONR?

I think power users will in general avoid unbridged ONR, even though it is possible to live with unbridged ONR with some tweaks, depending on the use cases.

I had a nice setup previously with Singtel ONT --> using a VLAN capable switch to split the home network into two. Each had its own public IPv4 address and working /56 IPv6 prefix (native IPv6). I used Asus RT-AX86U in one network. Then I used mini PC (virtual OpenWRT on top of Proxmox PVE) and wireless AP (Asus TUF-BE6500) in another network.

After "upgrading" to the Singtel 5Gbps plan on 12-August-2024, I lost the features to have two networks, native IPv6 was not working either (only 6rd tunnel was working). So others were saying actually I had a "downgrade" in reality. Nevertheless, I kind of accepted the unbridged ONR situation with Double NAT. I documented my setup at that time (29-August-2024).

Later I managed to get Singtel to provision native IPv6 (6 weeks process) for the ZTE F8648P XGS-PON ONR. I had to live with Double NAT and I needed to use port forwarding and Tailscale to get some of the functions back to work again (mainly for remote access back to home network).

Still I was quite happy when I was able to bridge the ONR finally (10G LAN port bridged) --> I can avoid Double NAT on the main virtual OpenWRT router, native IPv6 works as well (but downstream delegation does not seem to work). I could also bridge the second 1G LAN port to get second network working (but not used for now) even though Singtel native IPv6 did not work for the second network.

Basically with the bridged ONR, I can get back all the features of the old Singtel ONT setup except minor issues with Singtel native IPv6.

That being said, I think many users will not have big problems with Singtel ONR like the ZTE XGS-PON ONR. The most important thing for them is to have a stable internet connection and good wireless coverage.

1) Stability --> Singtel is arguably the most stable consumer ISPs.
2) Wireless performance --> nothing to do with Singtel as an ISP in reality, but the users need to spend money to upgrade a better wireless router and not to rely on the lousy Singtel issued wireless routers (Arcadyan and Askey now).

Basically the follow four are all lousy -- no matter single router or the mesh solution. They are only capable of 1Gbps due to the fact that they have only 1Gbps WAN port. Some users often ask why Singtel gives the following 1Gbps capble WiFi 6 AP/mesh with the 5Gbps/10Gbps plan -- the only reason is to offer the plan at lower cost. Singtel can still argue that you can fully utilize the 5Gbps/10Gbps with wired device, since the ONR has one 10G LAN port.
Only the following is a decent 10G capable WiFi 7 router (TP-Link Service Provider model), at S$16.80 per month if you decide to buy after the signing-up of Singtel 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plan with the basic Wi

Hmm, so SingNet die die don't want to let old users to recontract ONT now? Let me try see how!

Thanks for sharing your experience, xiaofan.

I am currently using Asus RT-AX88U with Unifi switch and I intend to slowly transit over to Unifi ecosystem. I will have to reconsider my network upgrade plan if Singtel intends to phase out ONT.

From Whatsapp with Singtel :(

"Sorry, every recontract now with existing ONT will be automatically changed to GPON ONR or if it's 5G or 10G plan it will be XGSPON ONR.

Also, we don't have 1Gbps Plan anymore it's obsolete.

Your current plan will still continue even if you don't recontract.

Currently, it's $40.65/mth once the contract ends you will be charge for the usual price of $53.89 per month."

Requested to be transferred to the retention dept to try my luck. Still waiting after 30 minutes.

Think maybe the CS forgot about me already.
