Take public transport must chiong to be the first to board and disregard others along the way. During peak periods always crowd near exits instead of moving in to let more people board. All must chiong for the empty seats,

On the roads always chionging and overtaking like rushing to someone's funeral, even if there's a red light in front and there's no point to drive so recklessly. When someone signals to move into their lane, many would accelerate even faster to not allow this. If someone makes a minor mistake on the road, horn until like no tomorrow, but if ownself make mistake, then it's just an honest mistake ma.

Came across too many cases of Singaporeans being rude and demanding to service staff, speaking to them in a very condescending tone when their expectations or special requests are not met. Be it in F&B, retail, transport or elsewhere, and sadly not just within Singapore but when they are overseas too. Even for things beyond control of service staff.

Comparing and competing with one another in all aspects of life, always preaching to other people on having to make the best or right decisions from their own perspective else be looked down upon.

Everything can also complain until no tomorrow.

How come like that?

every country also got lah.

Its a mental disease now. People slowly walking enjoying also kenna suan for blocking. Driving at speed limit also kenna suan for hogging. I always dont know people rushing to go where. Save 1min also happy. Die die cannot take wrong exit or turn, must cut across many lanes. Overtake also must overtake from infront even when behind no car. Waiting for right turn also kenna suan when it is safer. People chiong for seats. Win liao feel shiok and better than others.

It is a cannot lose or get embarrassed mentality. Quite bad. Overseas people dont even need to press door close button for lift!

Foreigners/ new citizens bring with them habits from their home countries. They incurred money and effort to be here and are not about to lose out to both fellow foreigners as well as the natives. Many raise their kids - dependents or PRs or 2G citizens - with the same habits and mindset.

Older Singaporeans have always been kiasu because they started with nothing after being kicked out of Malaysia. Things got better by the late 1990s and early 2000s as the Gen X/ 3G Chinese Singaporeans grew up and corrected their parents' behaviour. We stopped hearing about "ugly Singaporeans" for a while.

Then over the last few years, with half the people on the street being foreigners, sinkies have another mindset change.

They are unhappy with foreigners who just came in not integrating, understanding and following their norms. They made noise but the gahmen call them racists and xenophobic. Since they cannot tell right away who's local and who's not, sinkies now will just make sure they dun lose out.

One will tend to behave more properly when one is afraid to be singled out and shamed, but there is no such worry when more and more people are behaving badly.

Gahmen wants foreigners but knows the ground sentiments, and decides it is best it does not talk about kampong spirit any more.

So it's every man for himself here on this tiny island.

And "Singaporeans" are getting used to, again, be identified as ugly and cannot be bothered since there is a lack of the sense of belonging with various parties, groups and people coming up with their own definitions of the Singaporean identity.

Just like my dad. When he doesn’t get what he wants from the airport staff or the polyclinic staff, he will shout at the staff with full confidence as though it’s a valid point and say “I am Singaporean you know?!”

And to me: Singapore big fug ah?
You got tell him ma? :(
