If you buy new, you will know the condition of the car very well. If you take care and maintain it properly it should serve you well.
One great feature of German cars is that they are solidly built like a tank and protects the driver well, unlike Japanese cars which deform with the slightest touch.
Thanks bro. That’s exactly the reason why I bought a Mercedes. For safety reasons. After reading news about accidents where Mercedes car still hold strong, I think paying for safety is worth it. :o

Btw the C&c GLB180 is only single zone aircon and no rear aircon by default... remember to ask your salesperson to throw in for free they can install the rear aircon outlet but will still be single zone controlled from front...never understood why they did not want to just provide a proper aircon climate control
I saw that in sgcarmart review. It's ridiculous that a luxury brand 3 row car don't have rear air con vent...

Once a motorbike toppled in front of me on the PIE and I had to slam brakes to avoid running over the couple. A Golf GTI and BMW both stopped behind me. A blur Toyota came and slammed into everyone causing a chain collision. All the three German cars all looked undamaged (slight damage hidden by bumpers) but the Toyota was totally destroyed, luckily the lady driver was ok.

Haha ya I think most of them don't even drive. Say until need a "performance car" to drive on lane 1.

Currently I'm driving a lexus es300h. It can keep up with lane 1 traffic fine. But even though it's a E-segment car, it's hard to sit 4 people at the back. I have 2 kids and 2 helpers. So I'm looking for a luxury brand 7 seater that is still somewhat affordable.

So it's either bm 216 gran tourer or glb.
I don't really like the looks of 216 gran tourer so it's left with glb. If i have a choice I will prefer glc or even just c class or e class. I'm thinking of driving 1 last ICE car before getting an EV.

Haha if I want to spend, what fits my bill is gls or lexus rx 7 seater. But I don't want to spend so much.

Do you have any recommendations or insight?
I started with a 2nd hand Honda Fit and on lane 1 ley.. :p think I have gone 130ish max on BKE + in the middle got camera ley.. how to wrack that fast?

the old gran tourer have 5+2 seats as well and the last row space is even smaller than GLB. New version 'active tourer' only got 5 seats. I will not recommend both anyway. and they are 3 cyc engines, engine mounting prob need to be change after a few years.

GLS is quite problematic in terms of its engine and gearbox, software, seen many in workshop and sits there for weeks while COE is tickling away. Lexus RX is a no brainer, little to no problem.

GLC is 5 seaters and very new, kinda worried about the software issues(newer modern cars issues).

While i think EVs are not that ready yet for our local roads, I will stick to ICE for the time being.

Can look at GLE(have driven one for a few months) its extremely troublesome to park if u go to HDB carparks a lot apart from that its relatively reliable.

Not much choice in the luxury segment with 7 seats TBH. 7 seaters luxury users will be leaning more towards alphard

Thanks for endorsing continental car. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
In before: fully featured Japanese/korean car better than entry level continental car….

True. I always think AD more reliable.
But PI usually cheaper with more bells and whistles (eg. Amg line)

My merc is from pi

Save around $20k comparing with ad

Engine same
Interior slightly better than AD
Exterior slightly different

But the cost savings is big to me

Going PI route hv to get from more established ones
First 3 yrs stuck with their workshop
After that can find own preferred place for servicing

Back to question
Glb180 or glb200
If price gap not big in your opinion then go for latter

Most alphard on the road are PHV. My car just got banged by one of them. 😡

I agree bro. Most people probably can’t afford and look down on others. To be fair, I drive a A200. This is my first car that I bought in SG. I opt for a smaller car cos it’s my wife who drives most of the time, and she doesn’t have much driving experience in SG. I could have easily afford an E class or S class. But what’s the point? An A class is good enough for my small family. I rarely drive on the expressway anyway. Don’t need to drive at 160km/h. :s13:
buy what u need is better than overstretching to fit others mindset. I now buy Japanese cars for the easy maintenance and now too lazy to take delicate care for cars.

My honest opinion as a GLB owner: Comfortable and fast enough as a daily workhorse for Singapore roads. 1.3L engine is good enough for overtaking during peak hours since traffic is crawling anyway. One of the best looking family 7-seater (only when needed) at this price point. But make sure you get it during roadshows with steep discounts and the resale value will hold well.

It is more practical to look at cars within your budget instead of comparing against the likes of GLC, GLE or even GLS. Interesting comparison between actual selling price vs advertised price for all cars registered in Dec 2024:

The beauty of Japanese cars is that they are more reliable so can consider if you drive slower and safely. Continentals are more temperamental.
