Hi Xiaofan:
You mentioned in Pt 5:
5) Singtel promotes its own mesh solution from Arcadyan and Askey. They are not good mesh solutions and only capable of 1Gbps. This is true even for the 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plans.

So if i recontract with SINGTEL with a 5Gbps plan, does it mean the Askey/Arcadyn/AirTies router I currently have will still only transmit a max of 1Gbps?
If that is the case, i might as well recontract to 2Gbps? unless pricing for 5Gps is same or better than 2Gbps as there is no speed advantage... ?
( My current contract will exp on 10 Feb 25 for a 1Gbps enhanced).
THANKS!

(PS: It seems I have to delete the URLs contained in the thread in order to post a reply as it says"No have permissions to post URLs" . But most threads contains url links..)

Yes, those Askey/Arcadyan/Airties are limited to 1Gbps due to the fact that they only have 1Gbps WAN port.

3Gbps or 5Gbps recontract now may be cheaper than 2Gbps recontract, depending on the offer you get,

1) Best recontract offer from SIngtel is probbaly 5Gbps recontract at S$29.90 per month.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/recon-dm/fibre-5g
5Gbps Enhanced plan at $29.90/mth (U.P. $95.90/mth)
Comes with 1 unit of Singtel AX5400 WiFi 6 mesh device (but one user reported that he got HB611-SGST instead making that a even better deal, YMMV).

2) There is another offer of 3Gbps at S$29.90 per month as well.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/5gbps-10gbps-addons-tv
3Gbps Enhanced (WiFi 6) Plan at $29.90/mth (UP. $84.90/mth)
Comes with 1 unit of Singtel WiFi 6 device

3) Some users also got targeted offer of 3Gbps + HB611-SGST at S$39.90 per month.

hey peeps,

need some advice here as currently i am already out of contract on my current m1 1gbps which im still paying like 40 dolla per month and yes i am on ONT,
however,
here comes the question(s) -

i am contemplating to switch over to whizComms for the 10gbps which is 28.99 dolla per mth and i only have to pay for the installation fee of 54.50 dolla and this is ONR

another part is do ONT and ONR really that matters so much?

well to me, i just dont want to overpay hence the jump and unfortunately the m1 homepac 1gbps 29.90 per mth is only for new sign ups otherwise i would have grab that.

1) ONT vs ONR --> please read the folowing post. It depends on whether you really like to use the features of your own router without limitations imposed by the ONR. Power users will usually avoid ONR. Majority of the average users will be fine with ONR.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...cs-of-home-networking.6653421/#post-138363236

2) If you are eligible for M1 6Gbps recontract offer (S$15 OFF regular price), then that is the best offer you can get now.
More info about M1 6Gbpsrecontract offer.
S$32.90 with Archer BE805 WiFi 7 router (resale price at about S$300 now)
S$44.90 with Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack (resale price is more thna S$720 now).

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/m1-fibre-broadband-discussion-part-2.5658375/page-722
Targeted customers will receive an email from M1 for recontract, 6gbps for $32.90/mth.
Promo code is your hbbxxxxxx service ID

3) If not, I will recommend Starhub 5Gbps offer than SIMBA/WC 10Gbps plan. I may be biased towards M1/Starhub and against SIMBA/WC though. So you may want to read the first page of this thread to see if you still want to consider WC.

More info about Starhub 5Gbps plan.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/starhub-ultraspeed-5gbps-plan-launched.7024290/page-225

4) If you do not mind using ONR (many average users will be fine with ONR), WC 10Gbps is still a fine choice, if M1 6Gbps recontract offer is not available for you.

Personally I will recommend WC over SIMBA for average users due to the stability of WC (using Singtel network). But then for avergae users, I will still recommend M1/Starhub than WC/SIMBA due to better support. Again, I may be biased towards M1/Starhub and against SIMBA/WC though. So you may want to read the first page of this thread to come to your own conclusion.

Please read Post #2, #3 and #4 for more details.

1. Recommendation for ISP Plans to Go

Updates for Year 2024/2025. The following are just my personal opinion. YMMV.

1) For existing users of any ISPs: no switching of ISP unless if you got issues or you got good offers from the other ISPs.

This is especially true for M1 500Mbps and Starhub 500Mbps plan users since you still pay S$30.45 per month out of contract.

Same for Singtel users -- if you are fine with your Singtel Fibre internet plan using ONR, no need to change, even though I do not recommend new users to go with Singtel because of the use of ONR and relatively higher cost compared to other ISPs.

However, as per the updates from Singtel thread on 12-Dec-2024, Singtel does not allow recontract of ONT based plan (legacy 1Gbps plan) any more -- it is better for Singtel ONT users who want to keep using ONT with their own router to consider switching to other ISPs using ONT.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/singtel-1-gbps-fibre.5930834/page-253

WC 2.5Gbps plan is also a good one for existing WC users even though it may not be of very good values for new users due to NLT charges and installation charges.

2) Recommendation for new sign-up: M1 and Starhub are the top two choices.
Last update on 28-Dec-2024 (removed Singtel/SIMBA/WC from the list).

a) M1 is a safer bet for most new sign-ups. It is safer than Starhub and Singtel since it does not use ONR at all.

Take note M1 new 3Gbps/6Gbps/10Gbps plan may not be fully available across the island.
https://shop.m1.com.sg/fbb/coverage-check?coStatusCheck=true

M1 6Gbps with two Asus ZenWiFi BT10 is a superb deal at S$59.90 per month. You may offload one unit to sweeten the deal. You may even be able to offload both units to have lower subsciption cost compared to SIMBA/WC 10Gbps plan.

M1 10Gbps with two Asus ZenWiFi BT10 is also a very good deal at S$63.90 per month. You may offload one unit to sweeten the deal.

M1 1Gbps plan/2.5Gbps/3Gbps plan are okay plan to go with as well but not as good as the values of M1 6Gbps plan.

b) SH 5Gbps plan is worth considering, especially the S$29.55 offer for 5Gbps plan (ONR or ONT options).

Average users: it is okay to go for the cheap ONR option if you do not mind the limitation of Nokia all-in-one ONR. It comes with Nokia Beacon 2 to form a mesh with Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR. In that case, Starhub S$29.55 per month ONR offer is a superb deal.

You can also go with the ONT option if you want to use your own router and do not like to use ONR. It is also a very good deal for new users.

SH 10Gbps plan is the way to go if you need EPL or other contents bundling. Recommendation is to go with the ONT option plus TP-Link EB810v, unless you do not mind the limitations of the Nokia all-in-one ONR.

c) VQ 10Gbps plan is well worth considering, especially for Power Users. It is using CGNAT, so you may need to pay for Static IPv4 add-on at S$4.03 per month, if you hit into the limitation of CGNAT.

d) MR 3Gbps plan is worth considering as well. It is using CGNAT, so you may need to pay for Static IPv4 add-on at S$51 one time charge, if you hit into the limit of CGNAT. Nothing wrong to go with MR 10Gbps plan either. MR 3Gbps/10Gbps Gamer Plan may be a good one if you need low latency to China.

The above is just my own recommendations. You can always go with the plan you like. You know your specific use cases the best. For examples, there may be good reasons for some new users to go with Singtel, SIMBA or Whizcomms.

4) For Dual ISP users:

ST+WC is not recommended because WC uses ST infrastructure. SH+MR may not be recommended since they seem to be merging the backend, starting from the 10Gbps plans.

5) DO NOT USE the FREE BUNDLED ROUTER as the base for choosing ISPs. In general, it is better to buy your own router as the free router is not really good. Or in some case, buy the higher end router from the ISP if it is a good deal.

II. Details of ISP Fibre Internet offerings
Last update on 28-Dec-2024 (removed legacy plans).

1. SingTel : (2Gbps/2.5Gbps, 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plan)

Public IP: yes, no static add-on

Updated on 12-Dec-2024, Singtel does not allow recontract of ONT based plan (legacy 1Gbps plan) any more -- it is better for Singtel ONT users who want to keep using ONT with their own router to consider switching to other ISPs using ONT.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/singtel-1-gbps-fibre.5930834/page-253

ONR users: 6rd IPv6, but you need to request from Singtel and it may not be easy, on-going native IPv6 deployment.

Native IPv6 (/56) is being deployed since Nov 2023 and not yet finished as of Nov 2024. But it is still difficult to get native IPv6 for ONR users.

Singtel 2Gbps plan: aggregated 2Gbps, must use Singtel GPON ONR
Singtel 2.5Gbps plan: aggregated 2.5Gbps, must use Singtel GPON ONR [seems to be only offered to selected recontract users]

Singtel 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plan: use XGS-PON ONR, 1 x 10G LAN port and 4 x 1G LAN ports. Take note these plans are using XGS-PON ONR.

You may or may not be able to bridge the GPON or XGS-PON ONR by yourself and bridging is not supported by Singtel, YMMV.

Strong point: very stable, may have some advantages in terms of routing to China.

Update on 17-Nov-2024 --> Singtel has come out with 3Gbps plan, offer price is at S$29.90 per month for new users and targeted users.

2. Starhub (2Gbps plan, UltraSpeed 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps, legacy 500Mbps/1Gbps plan for existing users)
Public IP, ONT, no vlan needed. With native dual stack IPv6 (/64 only)

Starhub 2Gbps plan: ONT port 1 and ONT port 3 used to deliver 2x1Gbps connection, ONT port 2 for legacy Starhub Fibre TV.

Starhub UltraSpeed 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plan:
Lower cost options use Nokia all-in-one XGS-PON ONR (WiFI 6 AX6000). Users of 5Gbps plan with Nokia ONR can request to change to XGS-PON ONT and use their own router. There is an option to go with HB710 as well.
Higher cost options use XGS-PON ONT and TP-Link EB810v router.

As of now, Starhub 3Gbps plan is only offered to recontract customers. The offer is also not as good as the special 5Gbps offer at S$29.55 per month.

3. M1 (1Gbps plan, 2.5Gbps plan, 3Gbps, 6Gbps and 10Gbps plan, legacy 500Mbps/2Gbps for existing users)
Public IP, ONT, no vlan needed. Native dual stack IPv6 (/64 only).

M1 2Gbps plan: ONT port 1 and ONT port 2 used to deliver 2x1Gbps connection.
Update on 8-Aug-2024: M1 replace M1 2Gbps plan with the true 2.5Gbps plan.
https://www.m1.com.sg/home-broadband/plans/2-5gbps
Update on 6-Sept-2024: M1 no longer offers 500Mbps plan to new users.

No more static IPv4 add-on as per reports.

4. MyRepublic (3Gbps plan, HyperSpeed 10Gbps).
Using ONT
Carrier Grade NAT, no public IP by default. You can pay one time charge of S$51 for the Static IP.
No IPv6.

MR is perceived to have good speed and lower latency for some gamers but there are feedbacks of routing performance degradation after the takeover by Starhub.

MR HyperSpeed 10Gbps plan is using XGS-PON ONT.

5.Viewquest (10Gbps XGS-PON based plan with bridged ONR or XGS-PON ONU stick).

Using CGNAT by default. You need to pay for static IP add-on to get public IPv4 address (monthly charges apply).
No working IPv6.

Recontract users may have options to upgrade to 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plan at reduced pricing.

For new users, VQ may also have special offer for 3Gbps plan as well occasionally.

6. Whizcomms (aggregated 2.5Gbps plan, 10Gbps plan), using Singtel Network
Public IP, no IPv6.

Update: no ONR bridging request since 20-Dec-2023. Users have to take risks to do it by themselves.

7. SIMBA (10Gbps plan)
https://simba.sg/broadband
10Gbps plan
Using XGS-PON ONT with single 10G port, CGNAT (no public IPv4 address), with IPv6, no digital voice.

Legacy 2.5Gbps plan (using GPON) users are slowly being upgraded to 10Gbps plan.
@xiaofan, for sharing, this week I got an offer letter from Singtel, it is $46.9 for 5GBPs plan.. I did call in to negotiate but they said this is their lowest offer for 5G plan so far..

You can always try to click the 5Gbps recontract link at S$29.90 per month offer to see how it goes.

In general DO NOT trust what single SingTel salesperson says. They have too many sales channels and usually the salesperson may not know all the offers. Sometimes they may even compete with each other.

yes, I did submit a recontract request via the $29.90 link. That's see how it goes...

Indeed this is a major problem faced by quite some M1 users --> some of them choose to switch to Starhub 5Gbps offer at S$29.55 because of this reason. Some users decide to stay with M1 and go with the S$39.90 per month 2.5Gbps offer.

I just got offered $46.90 for 5gbps and ax5400
My contract only ends Sept so they are giving me this as early recon.

Will hold on and wait for better deal

Yes, this is a good idea.

If an earlier recontract offer is not attractive, just wait for a better offer.

It is interesting that they sent you the recontract offer so earlier though.

My previous 1Gbps contract ended in late August 2024, they only sent me the recontract offer on 15 June 2024. But the offer was not good so I did not accept it.

I got two more offers when I went to SingTel Shop in early August 2024.
1) 1Gbps at S$39.90 per month, can keep using ONT, with free SingTel AX5400 router
2) 2Gbps at S$39.95 per month, ONR, with free SingTel AX5400 router

In the end I went with SingTel 5Gbps recontract at S$49.90.per month with free SingTel AX5400 router in August 2024. Unfortunately there was no good offer for SingTel 5Gbps plan at that time.

all, mine is expiring Jul this year... I managed to sign up via the link for Singtel $29.9 5GPBs plan. and it was processed successfully yesterday, and I received the service contract. Installation will happen next 2 weeks.

Nice, thanks for the report, this is before you finished 21 months contract. Interesting.

Now the question is whether you get Singtel AX5400 device or Singtel HB611-SGST. So far only one user (cstanhwz) who reported that he mananged to get HB611-SGST.

@xiaofan, I am currently on ZTE GPON ONR (from ZTE), and using my own Xiaomi router. It works well.
with my new 5G plan I believe that I will get a new ONR... will I be able to continue using my Xiaomi router?

Yes you can.

If you use your Xiaomi router in router mode, you will have Double NAT situation.

If you do not want to have Double NAT, you can change your Xiaomi router to run in AP (bridged) mode.

More about Double NAT.
https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-double-NAT-and-why-is-it-bad

This is the same with either your current ZTE GPON ONR or the new XGS-PON ONR. So you can just leave it as it is if you don't see any issues currently.

Updated on 14-Feb-2025.
New user gets very good offer now for M1 6Gbps plan. Not really worth to go for 3Gbps/10Gbps plans though.

Hi, I have tried the link for the 5Gbps Enhanced plan. So far I received a Sales Agreement on the free 512MB SIM card that is to be activated in next month. I wonder if I have succeeded in recontracting?

My original plan was the 2Gbps plan.

Hmm, you should receive a service agreement through email, with details of the 5Gbps plan and also about the free router given.

The 500Mbps SIM Card is usually useless nowadays. And normally you should have already got that one in previous contract.

You may want to check your email inbox again, or you can contact SingTel to confirm.
