Thanks for your clarification.
I can't speak for the rest obviously, but I am not interested in reading about what the crazy fans do.
I am sure Mediacorp management doesn't care either. They will just push whomever they want to push.
If the crazy fans keep sending death threat to them the only thing they'll do is to terminate the contract of the artiste whose fans threaten them. That's all. End of story.

I see.. Maybe i too long never watch local dramas liao.. Yes surely there could be many of such subscribers and its a business model that works and streaming is a huge business nowadays.. Of course they are not running a charity, but i still see this as money grabbing (same day or same time isnt too much to ask for really), but yes which business doesnt money grab and who will say no to more money..

But at this rate they will just get worst and worst as time goes (doesnt help that they are monopoly in SG, like it or not they will be here and govt will likely bail them out even if they fail especially with no new entrants to replace them, cannot be SG totally no Local TV right) coming up with more patterns like the introduction of mewatch prime when the start of mewatch or rather toggle was just a medium for ppl to watch reruns online, another mode to catch the drama after its released or catch up when they missed a episode..

So poor viewers will eventually be the one to suffer regardless u are paying or watching for free.. Maybe next time will introduce mewatch vip/platinum/diamond where u need to pay even more and to get a earlier release or maybe not even necessarily earlier than current 1 week, could be a simple downgrade of the current tier to maybe 3 days advance and the new tier with the same 1 week in advance but require u to pay more (eg. reference to china online streaming sites, figures above are just examples pluck from air..)

Of course they couldnt care less about me tuning in or not and im a minority maybe even lower than the votes that will result in me forfeiting deposit for running an election.. and nobody forcing me to subscribe to watch or must be the first one or watch at the earliest possible..

Just me feeling sad..
I honestly don't understand what your concern is.
Ultimately the station still has to make quality shows to attract audiences.
The shows being on free TV, Netflix, mewatch doesn't matter. They are just the platforms for watching shows.
TV station will earn from selling ads, subscriptions or rights depending on the platform.
But they still have to make quality shows otherwise no audience want to watch them, which means lesser and lesser income if they can't sell ads, subscriptions or rights.

Several A-listers in sg made it big without much grooming from management. One example include Desmond Tan. Which is why despite his A-list status, no one calls him 阿哥. Another would be Rebecca Lim.

I don't buy this.
Unless you work in Mediacorp and have personally see this happening, otherwise I think it is BS.

As for why I brought up Sheryl Ang and her fans extreme behaviour here is to let those fans whom I presume read edmw know that their violent threats are exposed on a public platform like this, to urge them to put a stop to their actions. It has been going on for months and their obsession is seriously abit... It was also the case with Gini Chang last time but not as extreme although some also sent death threats (although more like just cursing) to Chantalle and Xubin when gini lost the best cp award to them at SA2023.

With their horrific acts exposed on public platforms where every1 can see, they will most likely stop what they're doing. If no one talks about their acts, it will just keep going on and it will likely get worse until someone actually gets hurt, or the victims of the threats get mata involvement. I can tell they don't actually have intent of hurting anyone and are just desperate to see their idol succeed.

As for Sheryl Ang new drama, let's put an end to the convo here. I'll continue talking about it when the thread for that drama is ready. Right now just focus on this show first.

Speaking of Jesseca crying scene, deleting her scene literally make it v wasted. Jesseca would be like: So I cry so much for nothing uh.
Actually Sheryl Ang's case is really pity. Join showbiz at wrong time. Too much competition and pandemic. If she joined earlier she can easily join the A-list ranks.

It won't be forgotten. Just that the other show could get more talk when it airs in May.

Anyway, can anyone answer, is Romeo lead or supporting actor in this show?
dun think is lead. the lead is the young ones.

  • Tasha Low, Chantalle Ng, and Ferlyn Wong: lead the drama as the new "Little Nyonyas".

  • Zoe Tay: plays the family matriarch.

  • Romeo Tan, Shaun Chen, Jesseca Liu, Sheila Sim, Dawn Yeoh, Tyler Ten, Zhang Zetong, and Desmond Ng: are also part of the ensemble cast.

  • Jeanette Aw: reprises her role as the mother of a main character played by Zhang Ze Tong.

most likely this 3.

If the situation gets too terrible like the threats are going on persistently, then yea la they will have no choice but to terminate the contract of the artiste whose fan threatened the station to ensure their own safety as well as the safety of other artistes. Is either that or when the artiste contract expire they won't renew lor.

I don't know what you are smoking.
If no grooming they won't even smell BA nominations, let alone win them.
They are still not senior enough that is all.

Not say mdc never invest money in grooming before but more like mdc only start noticing them and let them get BA nominations after they become established.

Unlike those who they want to groom, even before getting famous they alr let them get BA nominations and wins.

Desmond Tan took 11 years to get his first BA nomination.

Carrie Wong is one who got heavy grooming from management. Act for 1 year alr BSA nomination. Desmond had to work his way up for 10 years. It's quite obvious to who management favoured and invested in grooming.

As for Sheryl Ang, it's quite obvious that the management will only start grooming her after her drama airing after this. They even casted her in a channel 5 series.

Tyler don't even get to act in channel 5. Even channel 8 he rotate between lead and supporting roles, mainly supporting. This show should be his big break.

Desmond Tan fan: Wah DT rise to BA without any pushing from the station. It took him a long 11 years, even though the first few years he was still studying in university. Really tough man.

Brandon Wong:...... Am I a joke to you?

I don't think management isn't interested in grooming Sheryl. If they don't want to groom her she would still be getting supporting roles. Yet she alr female lead in several shows despite only being in the industry for 5 years. Look at Tyler.

As for not casting Sheryl in this show, it's because management have other plans for her. They pair her cp with Desmond Tan means it's quite obvious they're planning to groom her, but just waiting for the right time.

Also, people don't really watch TV these days so it's much harder for younger artistes to get recognised. Even Zhang Zetong isn't famous despite all that pushing and grinding.

Not totally without pushing.. Maybe just that they focused more on other artistes than him. If they pushed him hard enough he would have already gotten a Best Supporting or Best Actor nomination for his role as Hong Shi in 唐山到南洋

As for Brandon Wong, he definitely isn't one who was favoured by management. But his hard work paid off and they decide to make use of him to generate talk.

As for Rebecca Lim, I apologise. That's an oversight on my part. The upper management indeed invested alot in grooming her.

Brandon Wong act as the late comedian Wang Sa, can get best supporting actor nomination despite only being in the industry for 4 years at that time.

Desmond Tan, act as opium addicted coolie Hong Shi in 唐山到南洋 but can't even get any acting nomination although he was alr in the industry for 6 years at that time.

This drama groom all the next gen A-list actors and actress...
Probably best opportunity for Jeanette to win best actress award to make up for her losses to Joanne Peh
Their next gen A-listers not only from this show.. Still have some others.

Not acting in little nyonya doesn't mean you won't become A-lister. Look at Rui En. Never act in 2008 little nyonya but so much more popular than Joanne Peh.
