The other case (baby 2mo) mom didn't take drugs, I said likely post natal because baby is about 2mo and the violent tendency begin shortly after birth.

i think ppl shd see past all the outrage and ask themselves why all the possible safety nets that could save megan didn't.

1. daycare didn't notice anything

2. 3 different sets of in laws didn't care or seem to know

3. their friends who definitely would have seen something if they visited their home

4. social services didn't get to pay more attention to this case given that a parent has history of drug abuse and in jail.

the abuse lasted at least 5 months.

the articles were very carefully written to not highlight this red herring.

social services is under manpower. Maybe one person in charge of 10-20 person. It a low salary job.

Main factor is that case has post natal depression. They also sent the baby to the hospital instead of destroying the corpse.


Did the father want the custody? Did he fight for it? He was in jail for quite some time right? The mother also accused him of being abusive.

Seems like the deceased was born to messed up parents. Death is never a goods thing to wish upon anyone, certainly not to a child, yet it might be the only way to liberation from a life that would, if she had not died, been one of more suffering in this world.

After her trial on Apr. 3, Foo Li Ping, 29, was allowed 20 minutes to speak with her relatives.

Through a glass partition, she had a tearful conversation with her mother, who was dressed in black.

The 70-year-old held her daughter's hand and told her to take care of herself in prison.

"I didn’t get to study much, but I want you to study a lot, do you understand?" she told Foo, according to 8world.

Foo, who had been sentenced to 19 years' jail, asked her mother to visit her often and to wait for her.

She said they would be able to reunite after eight more years of imprisonment, referring to the point in her jail term during which she may be eligible for parole, if she demonstrates good behaviour.

"I will take good care of myself," Foo told her mother.

Her mother responded by wiping away her daughter's tears with a tissue, and reminding her not to be sad anymore, and to be a good person.

Other friends and family were also seen taking turns to speak to Foo.

Addressing the media afterwards, the woman said: "Everyone makes mistakes."

Sentencing​

Foo earlier pleaded guilty to one count each of child abuse, allowing a child's death, and intentionally disposing of a corpse to impede investigations.

She participated in the abuse of her daughter, four-year-old Megan Khung, over the span of 13 months.

Under the care of her and her boyfriend, 38-year-old Wong Shi Xiang, the toddler was caned, starved, and humiliated.

She was also forced to eat mucus and food from the dustbin, and made to sleep in the balcony in the afternoon sun, resulting in heatstroke.

Megan eventually died after Wong fatally punched her in the stomach.

The couple were consuming drugs in their condominium unit at the time.

Instead of calling an ambulance, they tried to resuscitate her by blowing drug fumes into her mouth.

During the hearing, Foo's lawyers, who represented her pro bono, said that she had been "trapped in an abusive relationship" with Wong.

Wong lashed out at her when she did try to stop him, they said.

But the judge pointed out that Foo abused Megan even when Wong was not present.

Wong, on his end, was sentenced to 30 years' jail and 17 strokes of the cane.

SINGAPORE - The mother of four-year-old Megan Khung who had been abused and humiliated for more than a year before she died was on April 3 sentenced to 19 years’ jail.

On Feb 28, Foo Li Ping, 29, had pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse, one count of allowing the death of a child, and one count of intentional disposal of a corpse to impede investigations.

Another count of child abuse was considered in sentencing.

Foo looked expressionless as the sentence was read out by High Court judge Hoo Sheau Peng.

“For their own sadistic ends, the accused persons robbed Megan of her dignity,” said the judge.

The prosecution had on Feb 28 asked for 15 to 20 years’ jail, saying the case involved a gross abnegation of parental duties.

For more than a year, Foo and her boyfriend, Wong Shi Xiang, 38, caned and slapped Megan, deprived the girl of food and clothes, and made her sleep at the balcony of their rented condominium unit in Paya Lebar.

you intentionally inflict a killing blow that you know will cause the person to die. a fatal stab wound to the heart is murder.

just hitting someone repeatedly as torture is not murder if the person die.
