Independent don’t waste time contesting. Singaporeans will only vote those with a party. If mosquitoes party and independent contest in the same ward against PAP, more people will still vote for mosquitoes party. Remember Chia Shi Teck (former NMP) independent candidate for CCK SMC in 1997 GE. He comes with quite a big reputation and even then still polled less than Yip Yew Weng of NSP.
Electorate will always be concerned of how an independent is going to run the Town Council if got elected. This is something that will weigh heavily on their minds. Unless you are as well known as somebody like George Yeo who wishes to run as independent. Then the situation may turn out differently
The Town Council not run by LBC. It's Marine Parade.

The five-member team will include political newcomer David Hoe, 37, and Mr Lee Hong Chuang, 54, who contested the Hougang seat in the 2015 and 2020 elections.

Mr Hoe is the director of philanthropy at The Majurity Trust, while Mr Lee is the former branch chairman of the PAP’s Hougang division.

The other two incumbents besides Ms Fu are Minister of State for Law and Transport Murali Pillai and Minister of State for Health and Digital Development and Information Rahayu Mahzam.

The PAP will field first-term MP Xie Yao Quan in the new Jurong Central SMC. Mr Xie has been representing the Jurong Central ward in Jurong GRC since he was elected in 2020.
Where got?

You know, I know...we have many jokers in the various fragmented opposition parties. New opposition parties are springing up like toadstools after a rain. Independent candidates with zero clout.

The established opposition who are competent are attacked at every opportunity both online, in parliament and other dirty means.

But in the end, it is human nature to hope that the underdogs win against the overbearing, arrogant, out of touch incumbent.

Shaping up.

The People's Action Party (PAP) unveiled its candidates for Chua Chu Kang GRC and Bukit Gombak SMC on Apr. 14, 2025.

For Chua Chu Kang GRC, PAP will field Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, Choo Pei Ling and ex-civil servant Jeffrey Siow, a new face.

The line-up does not include current Chua Chu Kang MP Don Wee, who was not present at the press conference.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister of State Low Yen Ling will be fielded in Bukit Gombak SMC.

Chua Chu Kang GRC

Jeffrey Siow

Siow held the role of Second Permanent Secretary at both the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) prior to stepping down from politics.

Prior to his current appointment, Siow was the first Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Enterprise Singapore.

Siow has also held other appointments in the transport, education, and manpower ministries.

Siow also served as the Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to then-Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong from 2017 to 2021, a role which current Prime Minister Lawrence Wong previously held from 2005 to 2008.

Speaking at the press conference, Siow shared that his father worked in a coffee shop and his mother was a part-time bank teller before becoming a full-time homemaker

Choo Pei Ling

Choo was recently spotted walking the ground with Gan, and has been volunteering for 20 years in Chua Chu Kang.

She is an assistant professor at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT)'s Health and Social Sciences Cluster, and is a Doctor of Philosophy (Clinical & Imaging Neuroscience).

She is also the Second Adviser to the Kembangan-Chai Chee Grassroots Organisations, a position she took up in 2014.

During the press conference, Choo shared that as a young mother, she can empathise with the "never-ending" pressures of juggling work, childcare and caregiving.

Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim

Zhulkarnain is a familiar face, having first been elected to Parliament in 2020.

During the press conference, Gan praised his work in Chua Chu Kang, having built up a strong team of volunteers and rolling out programmes to help support vulnerable families.

Zhulkarnain spoke of the Home Improvement Programme in Chua Chu Kang, and enhancing the connectivity of the area.

Gan Kim Yong

The DPM and Trade Minister confirmed that he will be standing in GE2025.

Don Wee out

Gan also confirmed that Don Wee will not be standing for election in GE2025.

Bukit Gombak SRC

Bukit Gombak is a new SMC that was created in the latest report by the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC).

Currently, Bukit Gombak is a branch under Chua Chu Kang GRC, represented by Low.

Low, who was first elected in the 2011 GE, spoke of her 14 years of experience in the area, seeing children grow up and commemorating the opening of a new MRT station.

She said she hoped the residents of Bukit Gombak will give her a chance to continue to serve them.
