@Kiwi8 what's your thoughts of this GE2025 vibe so far?

Do you reckon opposition party(ies) could secured 1/3 of 97 seats this GE?

Or in total at least 20 seats? :s13:
I am like the Scrabby of election predictions, so I better not make any predictions.

All in all, if I can see the NCMP disappear I will be satisfied, cos that would mean oppo winning seats beyond the NCMP maximum threshold.

if you are referring to MPBH, it's wholly inaccurate to say that WP has gifted PAP 5 seats.

MP-BH is a constituency held by PAP. WP gifting PAP seats will only be applicable if for e.g. WP chose to abandon Aljunied completely and let PAP just walkover there.

And there's no rule that says WP is mandated to contest there.

Actually it is gifted by Singaporeans ourselves.

Because WP is unable to find enough suitable candidates to field. Why? Because they are still seen as a small force, and as such have a harder time to recruit compared to establish party like PAP.

If WP can win Punggol GRC, it will be a massive game changer for Singapore politics in next election.

Honestly if u ask me, I think it is worth it to let GKY and SXL retire and allow WP the win so they can come back in 2030 with an even bigger force to contest.

Health Minister and People's Action Party (PAP) candidate for Sembawang GRC Ong Ye Kung has criticised the opposition for suggesting what he calls "irresponsible policies", paid for by raising wealth tax and using more of the reserves. He was speaking at a PAP rally for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.

exactly. some Singaporeans overhyped WP and think that they can go toe to toe with PAP and can deploy candidates as they wish.

yes, WP is the 2nd largest political party in Singapore. But nonetheless the gap between WP and PAP is still very huge.

You see, WP cannot afford to give voters labubus, teddy bears, ice cream, fish, eggs, toothbrushes

But PAP can. So you see the gap?

Singapore is heading to the polls on May 3 to elect lawmakers who will represent the nation's citizens in parliament. If you are a registered voter in this upcoming election, here are 5 reasons why you should care about #GE2025 and why your vote matters. #singapore #sgnews

It will take us a long time la, but Singapore as a nation is young.

When WP have greater parity of power in parliament, that's when we can have more robust policies in future. All the other parties to be frank are just distractions.

Honestly, if WP contest my area, I will send them in. Other Mickey mouse parties? No thanks.

Mr Ng Shi Xuan, a business director and father of three, is contesting Sembawang GRC with the People's Action Party team led by Health Minister Ong Ye Kung. Mr Ng is hoping to bring fresh perspectives to parliament, focusing on issues concerning the health of youth and smaller businesses. #GE2025

For her children and their future, lawyer Siti Alia Mattar Abdul Rahim Mattar joined the Workers' Party in 2024. Although she knows that being a parliamentarian, if she is elected, would take time away from her children, she said that the sacrifice is needed for the greater good. #GE2025

IMO they are gimmicks. WP doesn't give gimmicks, they keep the town well and speak up.

I was an Aljunied resident and can attest to that.

Meanwhile part of Toa Payoh I'm living in now, somewhat gets ponded everytime it rains, and it's been 6 years then it only got better.

you see the statement PS made this morning

https://www.straitstimes.com/singap...nch-team-says-wp-chief-pritam-singh-to-voters
SINGAPORE – WP chief Pritam Singh urged voters to compare the opposition party’s slate against that of PAP backbenchers, as it is not contesting enough seats to form the next government.

“My proposition to voters to consider is to understand that backbencher-for-backbencher, you’ve got a serious choice there,” he told reporters alongside party chair Sylvia Lim at Bedok 85 Fengshan Hawker Centre, where WP’s East Coast GRC team was on a walkabout.

that's what our opposition party scene is in SG right now.

so WP vision has always been clear, that at least one-third of parliamentary seats should be filled by opposition MPs.

It's not within their control should some Singaporeans choose to envision WP to be the one that will overthrow the incumbent.

I believe a lot of us think the same way as you. We want quality opposition.

Just look at the speeches of some opp parties. I don't get their messages. Some can't even speak well.

Politics is about comms. If you can't speak well, my concerns may be mispresented in parliament.

Heck, i can speak better than some of the candidates. So why trust them to speak up for me?

You are inaccurate. It is a fact that WP has given 5 seats to PAP on nomination day by not contesting despite the candidates pledging their commitment to MPBH.

WP forced their way into MP after requesting NSP to give way in 2015. If they now decide not to go in, they could have informed NSP. they did not choosing to give 5 seats to PAP.
