Backed for the first time by the Workers’ Party’s Sengkang GRC incumbents, the opposition party’s candidate for Jalan Kayu SMC Andre Low made his rounds at Fernvale hawker centre during lunchtime, stopping for chats and selfies with residents.

Mr Low said the warm reception was partially because he is more recognisable now.

"Cost of living issues are the most discussed topic with those I've spoken to,” he said, adding that this was of interest to even families in landed estates.

He also said the fight against his PAP opponent - labour chief Ng Chee Meng - would be a close one.
